Look at what came in the mail. Now if only I could find a 939 cpu to test it with.... Hmmmmm

what kind of cpu u want? I think I have a dual core mounted in a board on my wall right now.

I still have a DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR + naked Opteron 180 (I ran it at 2.8GHz) + OCZ Gold VX ram in a drawer somewhere with a Big Typhoon cooler mounted on it (damn it was a huge looking cooler for its time haha). But I'm from Finland and I still feel like keeping it as this platform was just about the best time to be an overclocker IMO so it holds a lot of sentimentality value to me.

In order for it to be able to be mounted on a naked CPU I had to tweak the mounting a bit with longer screws. I also have replaced the original chipset fan with a better one which made great difference to chipset temp. Not to mention the RAM that was designed to be used at like 3.2 - 3.3v so it even required its own cooling and adjustable CPU rail pots (had OCZ PowerStream 520). Sigh, it's crazy to think back manufacturers even allowed their consumers to do crazy things like this. What a good times ;)

I'm 99.99% sure I have 2 Toledo 939 A64X2 4400+'s in one of my old boxes of computer stuff....

Yea I grabbed an Opteron 170 for $20. Lol. 4800+, FX-60, and Opteron 180 are pulling wayyyy too high of a premium
Yep they all clocked about the same too (the opterons). My measly 165 held an air WR at 2.85GHz lol, enough said. They were all 'the best' silicon so there was really no binning, they clocked so hard, 40% wasn't uncommon. Had a 7970 like that too, I love 40% OCs...

The opterons were not easy to OC though, took me two weeks of tweaking to hit the record. Lot of time investment and one day I had a bios corruption/battery or something wipe the hard gains out. Sigh.

Had one of those and a opteron 165. And 2 gb of ram. I miss those days.
2gb was pretty baller then. I think the 1gb kits were slightly faster though which is all I cared about stupidly.. 1gb was the main limit of the rig in the end.

Boy that board was a pain in the balls to get working right.

Right. I can't tell if it's broken or just being difficult. It doesn't recognize any drive connected to SATA 1-4, tried reflashing BIOS, still not working. Tried an IDE drive, hung up during Windows install....RIP.

I was the socket 940 guy back then. Had a leadtek motherboard, started with an opteron 140 until I could buy an fx51. Broke the fx51 trying to delid then bought another. They were terrible overclockers and despite an unlocked multiplier they were only good for about a 200mhz oc. They also required registered ecc ram. But it felt pretty damn cool.

Exactly. I built several systems using that motherboard right before I started reviewing motherboards. I ran into one that worked perfectly and five or more that didn't. It was sometimes hard to tell the difference between a defective board and one that was just being difficult.

Update: It's alive!

I guess I had the memory in the wrong slots all along. Still no-go on the nForce SATA ports though, but I got it to boot from the Sil3114 controller.

My Abit AN8-SLI still boots my 165 at 2.7 with all 4 dimm slots occupied. that and x1800xt = HL2 greatness.

DFI and 165 was one of my favorite rigs, ran ddr600 if I remember right, 300x9 2.7ghz
those were the days !

Hehe, MSI and DFI with the clown color schemes, those were the days.

DFI was the indirect downfall of Abit when Oscar jumped ship. And that made me sad :)
yep, I remember hangin around xtremesystems forums back then and having oscar make us tweaked bios's for this said board. JESUS CHRIST did he make my TCCD ram FUCKING FLY in that board
