Analysts Discuss What Headless Intel Is Looking for in a CEO

Analysts across the industry are speculating on who Intel may choose for the next CEO of the company. It seems that quite a few think that AMD president and CEO Dr. Lisa Su should be at the top of the list. Some have even speculated that Intel should buy AMD just for her. Others have noted that the last Intel CEO search took nearly 6 months before hiring Brian Krzanich who was fired on June 21, 2018 after an extramarital affair with an employee was discovered. Names such as Diane Bryant, are surfacing ahead of the January 24th earnings report as Intel's chief financial officer and interim CEO, Bob Swan has made it clear that he isn't interested in the job.

Intel wants Lisa Su. One thing we must understand, though, is that people in the industry love to speculate on potential mergers and acquisitions. Kathleen Maher, vice president at Jon Peddie Research and the editor-in-chief of JPR's TechWatch Report, told us, "Obviously, the idea of Intel acquiring AMD is something that bubbles up from time to time, as does the idea of Nvidia acquiring AMD. But in that [latter] case, forget the FTC, Europe would have a cow (or whatever)." However, even those who don't buy the Intel-AMD rumor are open to the suggestion that Intel wants Lisa Su more than it wants AMD.

The article title should be "Analysts Discuss What Headlines the Press Writing About Intel Is Looking For" because that's all these speculation articles are good for, cheap clicks. They're going to throw out there the only names they know in the space of CPUs and CEOs and see if people click. If they do click, they publish more variations on the same article.

Brian was pushing for that in intel before he was caught doing it himself. Hypocrisy in its finest.

Could Intel buy AMD with government approval? It seems that would create a near-total monopoly in the CPU market. If improvements were slow coming before Ryzen, just imagine the tectonic-plate-speed of development after an AMD buyout.

I assuming Intel can probably make a case that with arm server going bigger and bigger that there isn't any monopoly in the CPU scene anymore.

I can be Intel's CEO by promising I won't be caught banging an employee
While I can't promise that, I could at least guarantee that I would never harass same sex employees.

And *NO* Viagra in the insurance benefits for senior staff, best I can do (somewhat better than Brian did). ;)

In the server market I think we will see Google and Amazon using in-house chips (to some extent) in the future. On the consumer side, ARM / mobile devices compete against desktops/laptops in many use cases, not to mention Apple's plan to produce its own chips and drop intel for Mac OS computers.

Aside from the extreme unlikeliness of this crazy merger idea, I think you could at least argue that it would not be an monopoly on processors.

How would this be for a twist? Intel buys AMD to get Su to be CEO. Government makes Intel sell AMD CPU division to a competitor. Nvidia buys AMD, but due to the x86 agreement Nvidia now has to become AMD. After the transaction all Nvidia graphics cards are branded AMD and because of the change, those that don't keep up with the news still think AMD graphic cards are garbage. Not to mention Su fires Raja (well he leaves to have "time with his family" again.)

I would go to the theater to watch this movie. It's as likely as that halo movie, though

No, and the some speculating this must have some really amazing drugs.

Intel and AMD should be allowed to merge, under two conditions,

1- They lose all patents and copyrights other than company logo and name, meaning the x64 and x86 patents become public domain.

2- They can't sell a product for more than a 25% profit margin markup, meaning if the 9900k cost 200$ they can't sell it for over 250$.

How desperate are they?

Intel is eyeing Lisa Su?

Seriously?

AMD brought ATi. Look how successful they are.

Why not Intel buy Nvidia and make Jensen Huang its CEO?

They should just keep running headless – more efficient that way. ;)
