Picard Will Lead "Radically Altered" Life in New Star Trek Series

Fair. I will have to go back and watch. I did re-watch all of TNG when the bluray remasters came out, but damn, even that has been a few years now. (and there may have been some tasty beverages enjoyed during the watching, exacerbating the problem)
No worries, I had no clue what it was, I googled the image and went from there.

I have a feeling Picard is going to pull a Skywalker and become a hermit, then be "recruited" to rejoin Star Fleet to help fight a new threat.

Does it include milking alien tits and drinking it?
Depends on how hot the alien is...

And it failes and dies before day 1 no matter how good it may or may not be.... 3 little words "CBS ALL ACCESS"

As a long term Trekkie, this will be the 2nd series I won't be watching.

Strike #1, only available on CBS ALL ACCESS
Strike #2, it takes place in the new alternate timeline from the last 2 movies.
Strike #3, It will likely be as bad/politically correct and the last CBS series.

Not even worth the effort to pirate it

What are you considering the last two movies. Insurrection and Nemesis, or that JJ Abrams garbage?

IMHO the JJ Abrams stuff is best ignored.

Neither Insurrection nor Nemesis were particularly good films, but at least they kept the timeline/universe shit the same.

Also, can you remind me again what this whole controversy was about, because I watched through the series and thought it was good and didn't come across any political pandering.

Was it just that there were too many minority women in leadership positions? Because that sounds like a pretty silly complaint.

It's the JJ Abrams garbage and the changing the timeline/universe I hate.

No problems with minorities or women. Star Trek has always been a leader in that, going back to the original series.

It's the Hollywood political correctness (not unique to just this series) that has ruined way too many series and movies in the past several years.
I've lost count of how many TV series I've stopped watching due to the corrupt Hollywood culture being pushed.

At least I now have much more time for other activities since there are so few shows worth watching.

What?! So this is going to take place in a new timeline? Not TNG timeline?

That whole synopsis doesn't make any sense at all! He would still be the same person even though the timeline has changed, the timeline is an exterior force. Fucking Hollywood.

Let me guess, they're going to give him amnesia? Maybe they'll bring Q in to be a ghost of Star Trek past, in which he'll show Picard how the events he took in his life as Captain of the Enterprise lead to the destruction of the Romulus. :dead:

Can you give some examples though? Because I am being serious, I just didn't see it. I'm trying to understand.

They really pushed a female lead (chick left the Walking Dead to take the role), way more so than they did with Janeway, they made the Klingons appear more "ethnically diverse" "African" just for the sake of being politically correct.

Of course back then, it was cool to have a female & supporting character, atleast they could act & there was no social media driving it or shoving down peoples throats for political reasons.

Interesting . . . . might have to re-watch Nemesis and a few TNG episodes to refresh the memory before this new one starts.

Honestly, I don't like the "radically altered" part. I want Picard to be Picard. Change everything else within reason, but don't change the character with 11+ years of canon behind him. Actually, Picard is one of my favorite characters, but I also wanted to see the non-kelvin Federation post Nemisis. There was already a solid history behind the Picard character to build on. The Kelvin timeline does not do Trek justice, and I am convinced that JJ should keep himself away from Star Trek and Star Wars both.

Color me dissapointed.

Hmm. I didn't follow all of the launch buzz, so I missed how much of a big deal they were making of a female lead. I'm just judging the series based on having watched it, and nothing feels unnatural or preachy about the series when watching it. At least not to me. That said, in previous Star Trek series one of the things i liked was that there was very little in the way of leads. They were a team. Some episodes focused more on one character or another, but overall it seemed like a cast where everyone played an equally significant role. The focus on the story of one person, which is the direction Discovery has gone a little bit more (but not completely) in, is less good to me, but it still has some very good writing, great suspense and plot twists, good acting and good effects. The first season was really quite good!

I did chafe at the Klingon changes, but they never stood out as being africanized in some way. Just different than they should be, the way they were previously in the universe. I don't like it when they allow new people to come in and make changes to an existing universe. The appearances of all aliens should always stay true to where they were when they first appeared, at least starting with 1978's "The Motion Picture". 60's TV TOS should be an exception, because the low budget makeup department couldn't do anything well.

The rest of the stuff in this series is good enough though, that you almost forget about the Klingon problem once you get into it.

Annnnnnd I'm out. I was hoping they wouldn't manage to bastardize his character in this god awful agenda pushing series..apparently that was a unrealistic hope.

I mean if you can't see the overbearing preachiness, you are pretty oblivious.

I've said it more than once, and even in this very forum. Any new Trek is good Trek.

Want to kill a good thing? Just keep being a bunch of "anything new is shit" sheep. You're a common breed now, and that's the real issue.

Counterpoint: The Simpsons post season 10. But, yeah any new Simpsons is good Simpsons!

Anyway, we really shouldn't be surprised. There is lots of good info and analysis out there on the rights battles between CBS and Paramount over who owns what and who can make what. This new show had to be in the Kelvin timeline like discovery. In the end, much of this nonsense is about hollywood execs, lawyers and money. I don't hate the Kelvin universe but I don't view it as real Trek. If they'd stated early on what Discovery was they'd have had less strife. Maybe not more viewers but less hassles. The politics didnt help either.

I hope (Radically Altered) Gentleman Johnny Pickard got his pay up front and is willing to take the heat not from fans necessarily but from hollywood as they blame any failures on him.

Yeah, I'm really getting sick of writers, directors, game development companies ect, just flipping the switch for the sake of it being easier to start a new timeline or giving a character a memory lapse instead of working with whats already been told. It seems like a cheap cop out and a sign of an unintelligent director or team of writers.

I was just thinking about it. Discovery and this new Picard series are shaping up to be a damn turkey sandwich when you wanted a juicy steak. That's the best analogy I can make. Yes it's something to eat but not anywhere near satisfying.

Haha, that's a pretty good analogy of it.

I don't agree with this. There's no reason to ignore it since at least some of them are good action movies. But you need to keep in mind these are action movies; they are not Star Trek movies. Replace the Star Trek elements with some other names and they are perfectly enjoyable as they are.

And when "new" Picard refers to photon torpedoes as "laser missiles" you can be there to cheer. The rest of us will be sparing ourselves from the debauchery of another classic franchise.

Make star trek the romulan wars, or ds9 war time line form a ships captain on the front. No need to thow out 50 years of history to make a new show. Hell we have the mirror unvise do a show in that bit leave the prime timeline alone.

Want to make a good show? Set it 50+ years after tng. Hell the shows now make no sense they have more technology then tng. At least wwith Enterprise the tech and setting felt right even if the writing was crap.

ST was never about being dark.

I wouldn't say that. Even TOS involved a lot of sci-fi/horror (including the earliest episodes, The Cage, Where No Man Has Gone Before, and The Man Trap) with poor redshirts getting seduced and killed left and right. The effects may be goofy by modern standards, but it was certainly 'dark' for it's time in many places.

At this point, the various people in charge of Trek have done their utmost to give me no reason to give even a fractional micro-fuck.

Lol.

Look, I'm all for acquiring my media on the straight and narrow, but when they try to screw me over with exclusives, I'm happy to return the favor.

There are plenty of other ways :p

Overall... that's good news. It means the inevitable social justice bullshit they'll have him shilling won't taint the ACTUAL Jean-Luc.

Side Note:

What is the screen cap in this post? Because I am not sure, but it looks like I am seeing Data in the background.

I wonder how I am going to explain resurrecting him after being blasted to bits in Nemesis...
They just re-assemble him like they did with Lore, except they give him an L-type discriminator by mistake and turn him into a badass.

Best Star Trek movies imo,
1. The Wrath of Khan.
2. First Contact.
3. Generations.
4. Star Trek 2009.
5. Star Trek The Motion Picture.
Picard was the best Enterprise captain. I'm just happy to see Patrick Stewart re-associated with the series in any shape or form.
Make it so :)

I love Patrick Stewart and Picard is my favorite captain by far , but honestly i cant see how a 78yr old Stewart can do a show for the next 5-7 years.
Picard already looked old and weary on Nemesis

nope this is how they do it..

"In the film Star Trek: Nemesis, Data beams Picard off an enemy ship before destroying it, sacrificing himself and saving the captain and crew of the Enterprise. However, Data previously copied his core memories into B-4, his lost brother who is introduced in the movie. This was done with the reluctant help of Geordi La Forge who voiced concerns about how this could cause B-4 to be nothing more than an exact duplicate of Data."

B-4 becomes Data.

hey if he wants to do it let the man do it.. honestly though the guy was born to be an actor and he'll probably die on stage doing what he loves and that's his choice. if you look at his stage work/filmography he's been working non stop since the 60's.

Why do people say this is in a new timeline ? It isn't. This series is in the original universe, the one Spock left to Kelvin timeline. Romulus got destroyed by nova in the original timeline.

yeah i think people are mixing up how it was described which i almost thought the same thing when i first read it.. but realized it's using the story Nero talked about in the 2009 movie as the filler between when Star Trek: Nemesis movie ends and where this series starts.

Yeah. I'm assuming they were mirroring Spock's resurrection in a new body on the Genesis planet. It's a shame there weren't more TNG movies.

I enjoyed Generations and Nemesis despite the issues the hardcore trekkies seemed to have with them. Then Abrams comes along and actually makes some good action/adventure trek films and the alt-SWJ crowd comes along to shit all over them, too... It's a multiverse of different characters and stories and timelines. People need to get over themselves and just enjoy the show.
