"Server RAM" for Ryzen 2700X?

FWIW the pins look good and speed is good. Though depending on the cost, at the price listed, I personally don't think I would risk the hassle. For you though, if the deal is good / price low enough, could be a good find if it works out.

I just made the switch from using an Intel as my main rig, to an AMD setup myself. To me, it looks like AMD Ryzen (x470+2700x) is more finicky than Intel when it comes to ram. I had the same issue with my backup box which runs a x370+1700 which was equally picky with ram as well.

I guess as long as it's not RDIMM/buffered it should work.
Going to give it a try with a single stick.

I was just looking at ram pricing this morning (just for fun) and man, AMD/Ryzen ram is pretty $$$. I'm currently recycling my ram from my old 5930k rig (4x 16gb 3200 1.35 G.Skill Ripjaws V) and I think it's only running at 2133 ATM - but still better than not working at all I guess!
 
Not sure why the supermicro is a deal -- $186 for a stick of DDR4-2666? when newegg lists several 16GB sticks of DDR4-3000 at around $120-130? and I see at least one 2x16 kit of 3000 for $204.

The RAM is 16GB DDR4 Unbuffered ECC. You pay more for ECC. And it generally is not overclocked RAM so just JEDEC specs are listed.

Using this on a 1950X. I got a bit more out of it, though. Even at stock voltage. Have you tried?
 
I checked the validation status on Supermicro's site, and this RAM is validated for a C236 motherboard (SM doesn't make AMD boards at the moment) so it "should" word with an AM4 motherboard.
 
Unbuffered will work in any AM4, whether or not the "server" function works is up to the board really. I haven't seen anything recent that won't boot just because there are 9 chips per group instead of 8, worst case it doesn't connect the traces and ignores it.

I paid quite a bit for samsung unbuffered ECC b-die over the last year+ for AM4 and TR4 builds, all of which is "only" rated for 2133 or 2400. The DR sticks all run 2933C16 in 8x16 configs, the SR 3200C14 in 4x8.

Prices came closer to earth on non-samsung ram recently (still nowhere near 2016 levels) but when I was buying it was cheaper than "binned" blingy gamer ram with retarded tall heatsinks and flashing disco lights, yet it runs just as fast and more provably stable.
 
Dang schoolslave, any chance I could get in that? I'm getting these sticks too for a workstation build, but the lowest I can find is 175/ea.
