Facing the meteoric rise of Fortnite and criticisms of a sluggish development pace, PubG's player count has fallen significantly over the past year. According to SteamCharts, PubG had an average player count of 1.5 million in January of this year, with peaks of over 3.2 million players online at once. That plummeted to an average player count of about 420,000 in November, with a peak of just below 900,000.

But with the release of a new snow-themed map, PubG seems to be gaining momentum again. The game is regularly hitting peaks of over 1.1 Million concurrent players again, easily making it the most popular game on Steam, but time will tell if that upward momentum continues into 2019.

Very popular it seem, but i am not in that count and i never will be unless they make some drastic changes or add ons.

Battlefield devs be like, forget the microtransactions, SJW and other bullshit, we need new great map ASAP.

It's sick that a new map causes this much of a boost, ofc there hasn't been a lot of maps in PUBG for starters but still...

Well there was also news that PubG was banned in China a couple weeks ago....perhaps players are returning due to a "possible" drop in cheaters?

The new map reminds me of Battlefield because it has lots of open spaces. I prefer close combat. Auto shotty is my best weapon

I really liked this game, and the play back feature. The ability to fly around your character, see how you got owned, and how you could improve was very very cool. However, the cheating was so bad that insta-kills, aim hacks, and radar hacks ruined it for me. I know i'm a terrible player, but when you get murdered before you even hit the ground? Or you get one shot killed from someone on the other side of the map? The play back feature exposed a lot of that behavior but people just kept doing it anyway.

Its included Xbox Gamepass , so that should also boost the player count

An average player count of 400,000 means it is the, or one of the, most popular games on Steam. Yeah it is no Fortnite, but it is still making money hand over fist.

Tried the new map once. Came in fifth place but the engine is still jank. After playing BF5 I was almost surprised of how bad things run in PUBG, even though I have a couple of hundred hours with it in total. (buddies too lazy for BF5 Conquest still try to lure me in there)

Ring of Elysium has some promise in comparison to PUBG and there's nothing wrong with the genre itself.

The game fucking sucks.

I have over 500 hours and it dawned on me how it fucking sucks.

You spend an hour running around only to get shot by a cheater over and over and over.

I used to get chicken dinners all the time until the cheaters came out in droves. Now fuck that stupid game I cant ever make it to the end hardly ever anymore.

I bet you think it was banned in China
China isolated them to prevent transmission of wrong-think. But to a player who doesn't follow the news, thinking it was banned in China would be a reasonable first guess.

Cheaters are the fault of videocard hardware and DirectX being easily hookable without authentication, etc. M$ wanted PC gaming to fail ever since Xbox until Xbox One was a failure and video card makers don't want to lose a sale. It's not the developer's fault 100%

Played new map last weekend, think my friends and I were top10 each game with three chicken dinners, two in a row. PUBG still plays like garbage and I prefer Ring of Elysium, but most of my friends play PUBG so that's what I will play. I've only encountered cheaters a handful of times, guess I'm just lucky.

Key your eye on the game Atlas :D

People just picked up PUBG on sale because it never goes on sale and the DLC.
