Steam winter sale is on. Nothing amazing thus far, however.

yeah seems like they're not even trying this year a lot of stuff is not even on sale compare to other years :cautious:

I've heard very good things about The Hex - from the makers of Pony Island, which was one of those games that you want to go into not knowing anything if possible, and apparently Hex is the same.

The Handsome Collection is a good deal for those who don't own borderlands 2 or the pre sequel. I'm going to pick that up. This is one of the few deals that stood out at me so far.

Same here. Jim Sterling was the reviewer that pointed me toward Pony Island, and he put up a rave review / Jimpressions vid of Hex. It is probably well worth the full $10 price, so pretty much a must buy at 25% off.

It's like each sale now for the past 2+ years goes above and beyond to make sure there is absolutely nothing of interest for sale and/or unimpressive discounts.

The $15 Bioshock bundle is worth picking up, if you've never played through. A wonderful series.

but seriously I have my eye on Stellaris for $10
Elite Dangerous cmdr deluxe ed $14.39
Xcom2 $14.99

I noticed a few AAA titles are already heavily discounted. BFV, BLOPS and more are down to 30 dollar range. Could account for no super sales on Steam. That and they didnt have time to bust a nut from the gains on the Fall sale!

There are some decent deals on VR titles. I miss the days when everything was 50-90% off and the games that were less than 50% off were newer AAA titles.

90.5% of the titles on my wishlist are on sale, with many discounts in the 60-85% range. So far I'm not seeing a lot to be overly disappointed about, but I'm probably looking at different games than you guys. There aren't many new games on my wishlist because I tend to run behind the curve due to my backlog, but the vast majority of the ones of interest that I've added are fairly deeply discounted.

No they just expect all games to be $5 or less even if they were release a month ago.

I think most people just miss those one day/couple of hours super deals Steam use to have. I know I liked having to launch steam every afternoon and looking to see a small select bunch of games at like 70-85% off and buying them because they were just cheap enough that it didn't matter if they kind of sucked but I was a curious to try.

That's the case for me. Steam winter and summer sales used to press me to buy things I wouldn't have otherwise bought. Now I yawn as the prices come up the same as they were a month ago for the fall sale, and all the prices right now are what they'll be the whole time. During the summer sale I don't think I bought anything at all, which is pretty crazy, considering I used to regularly buy at least $50 worth of stuff for every sale (and with the way the prices were back then, that's a lot of backlog). I appreciate steam for a lot of reasons, but the winter and summer sales aren't what they used to be.

Everything on my wishlist is between 0% and 65% with most of them in the 20%-35% range. Most of these games are over a year old too. A bunch are 2+ years old with no discount.

If your into RACING GAMES, there have the R FACTOR 2 on sale for 19..99 and AUTOMOBILIA on sale for 7.67.... both are great racing titles.

I totally get that, and I miss those days too. I vividly remember the rotating flash sales and buying those big publisher packs at huge discounts and spending over $200 per holiday sale. Exciting times for sure. But, everyone knows those days are gone and it just gets old seeing the same old comments every single Steam sale about how they suck so badly and nothing good is on sale. You touched on it, but the backlog problem is so real for most of us that I don't know why we'd complain anyway, as many of us have enough games to last the next several years. Add to that the fact that so many people say "These discounts are terrible anymore, the games are usually cheaper on GMG/Amazon/etc. competing sites." Well...go buy them there, then. Support the competition and maybe things will change. Do people ever consider writing an email to Valve and/or the game publishers to voice their thoughts on it? Nah, easier for most just to drive by and toss a snarky rant onto reddit or a forum thread a few times a year. :)

Please suggest a couple titles.

I mean, I feel like that would be fruitless since I have no idea what your interests are, plus anyone could pick apart anything that I would post for a number of reasons (more than a month old, indie trash, already own it, etc.). But just off the top of my head, AC: Odyssey is half price and it just came out in October. If you don't already have it, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a paltry $3 (yes I know it's been that price before) and many, many people liked that game. The Talos Principle is currently 85% off, from $40 down to $6, and rates "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam. May be something worth checking out if you think it's something you'd be interested in.

Being completely honest, there are 200 games on my wishlist (accumulated over the years, no I don't plan to buy all of those and yes it needs some cleaning up). Having said that, 181 out of the 200 are on sale and quite a few of the discounts are deep, with many of those being the 2+ year old games that you mentioned.

Obviously, my post was anecdotal as it was based on what *I* was seeing, not anyone else, so all I can say is that YMMV. I'll never argue that the sales aren't as exciting as they used to be, but I just don't feel the need to complain about it every time there's a sale, either. Plenty to keep me busy without scooping up a dozen new games that I might or might not ever get around to playing.

Redout enhanced is down to $6.99. Some says its good if you like wipeout, f-zero, pod. I do not own it.

Was hoping axiom verge would some day go below the 10 dollar mark. But not this sale it appears. Oh well.

I need a chrome plug in that removes all titles that i skipped last sale, unless it is discounted at least another X%.

I think the only thing for me at the moment is, Agents of Mayhem and Ruiner, I just refunded Spintires American Wildlands bundle and picked up cheaper at Cdkeys...

I'd make sure you have the refund button at the ready for agents of mayhem, game was awful

I think the best indications of whether or not the sales were better 3+ years ago or if everyone is just expecting too much are looking at what you used to spend (I too would regularly but bundles and flash sales were great etc, often overbuying and giving games away as gifts because they were too good to pass up either way), and also the difficulty level buying games now.

It used to be regular fair during a sale that from 12:55 to 1:15pm each day you used to have very little chance of even loading the site. When the three hour flash sales rotated the same thing happened. The site was in general slow consistently during peak hours (5-8pm when people got off work etc).
Threads here in the forum would go into double digit pages and we would wait to see what the new highlighted sales were each day/flash listed here for whoever was lucky enough to get through quickly... And often in two threads (HDs and GM)
I remember in the past year or two seeing sales that didn't break one page here, and in GM there rarely is even a thread anymore.

I haven't had a steam site time out/unable to load during a sale in two years easily... And I do check it at 1pm most sale days, at least for the first day or two depending on how depressing the results are from that.

On the current sale... I am surprised (even given the ratings) that JC4 is 20% off. FC5 at whatever it was, $15? That was a steal given its not even a year old.
But overall, most of the games I've seen aren't even if interest to me, and I find myself not inspired enough to go browsing for non publicized games as I just assume if they aren't in the giant ass front page they probably aren't interesting to me anyway.

TL;DR:. Waaaaa etc. I know.

Bring back the flash sales steam! For gods sake the new trend has to show a lower margin the past few years! Wake up!!! Fladh slaes equal more sales! More interest Period!

If they actually did then Valve would be doing them. The only thing current Valve cares about is cash and sucking the cocks of AAA publishers. So if the incentive was there to do sales like the old days they would do so.

Any opinions on Warhammer Inquisitor? Looks cool Diablo style 40k.

I finally decided to buy DayZ as friends are playing it again, It is one of the only games NOT on sale. FML

That would be a dick move.

I too miss the massive discounts the Steam year-end sales used to bring with them. Now they aren't all that great anymore in that like you, I find that most of what is on sale, I already own. That and the backlog problem is real! I'm hoping to fully tackle it once I retire in ~12 years... for now, I simply chip away at it occasionally over holiday breaks and odd random weekends where the wife/kids are out of town. Heh!

I need to stop collecting... I'm sure there are others with much bigger libraries, but I really need to stop! :D

Guys: if any of you missed on playing them during release, $15 gets you all three Bioshocks (first two remastered) with DLC. Probably one of my top 5 single player games ever. Excellent franchise - truly worth a play.

Right, I used to hate the old Steam Sales because the best deals usually went during a Flash Sale, or you had prices changer over the course of three days.

The current Steam Sales are 90% of the levels the Flash Sales hit, but you have a week or more to make your decision. This gives me time to actually consider another purchase (and am I hungering for ma new game, and do I have time to confirm I like the game is fun before the return date?)

I'm currently looking into Divinity: Original Sin, but I'm making sure I have the gaming free time before actual purchase.

Yup.. but without the advertised flash sales I couldn't be bothered hunting threw a thousand pages of games to see them all so.. the whole format from the old days was 1000000% better! Besides a reason to check back every other hour of the day haha

I have near 300 games thanks to those old flash sales and format. This year I have not bought a thing and prob wont.. last year maybe a tomb raider game.

Grabbed Asetto Corsa and BeamNG.Drive which is almost never on sale.... other than that.. meh

I can agree that the massive amount of games makes it hard to find the good ones, but the good games of times past that you like, you have by now and no amount of flash sales is going to make you buy them again.

I'm going to use my whishlist some more to keep track of games I'm interested in in order to keep tabs on things.

Imo flash sales are somewhat similar to lootboxes as they try to make you spend money for in this case games you would not buy otherwise and may very well never end up playing.

Nope. My point was the flash sales and the way they advertised the older holiday sales it was easier to discover games I had no idea about.

There new stupid recommended game list they think has game I'm interested in has been a flippin fail since they started it a few years ago. Hate that crap.

So point.. they advertise game durring the flash sale. Stuff I've never heard of but were cheap enough for me to look into to see if it Ms something I'd want to play. That is all.

Btw. All those old games from the 90/00 area I own on disk. Others on greenman.
