The Chinese are doubling down on their efforts to control the supposed influx of problematic video games with the help of a new body that will review titles for “ethical issues” ranging from unsuitable content to addiction and childhood myopia. The Online Games Ethics Committee has already “rejected nine games for publication in the domestic market, while ruling that certain content be modified in the 11 other games that were reviewed.”

Publishers in China are required to submit games for review to authorities so these can be sold in the domestic market. This process typically takes months to complete, and games with the slightest violent or sexual content are likely to get rejected. The State Administration of Press and Publications (SAPP), the country’s video games regulator, could not be reached for comment regarding the new ethics committee.

And they are by and large brainless mindless drones working for the state, kind of like the Borg. I guess they aren't Swedish after all.

China before communism: Country ruled by whatever party that could keep the "emperor" propped up on the throne.

China after communism: Country ruled by whatever party keeps the "chairman" propped up on the throne.

China... China never changes.

The Chinese people are great, its their Government that is and will always be an issue.

Maybe the should look into how to use games to brain wash minorities...better than putting them in camps and starving them and making them sing patriotic songs (probably cheaper too).

Anyone else find it funny that the word "ethics" is used... when cheating/winning no matter what the cost is currently a major aspect of their culture? This doesn't just apply to video games either...

what i find funny are Chinese people using VPN to access comment boards of sites of which they are banned from, and defending their countries' policies on censorship

Not really. Their culture is to cheat to win at all costs and feed that government social score.

yea, there is Really a score these days. Scary what China has become once they become strong economically.

China was not better when it was still a poor shithole country. Now China is just a less poor shithole.

I know it’s not like there is news almost every other day about stealing tech or hacking into government or private companies for secrets...

But those damn sexy violent video games.

Before the Communists there was a deep, ancient Chinese culture that was inventive and productive. The left always has to destroy the underlying culture hosting it.

Today, if you want to see real Chinese culture, music, dance, art, it's to be found in the expat communities that make up the vibrant Chinatowns around the world.

That culture was inventive and productive under Dowager Cixi? That's as bad as saying that Louis XVI was inventive and productive. Destroying the underlying culture part I do agree with though.

Well, to be honest, traditional Chinese culture is a lot more than one Dowager Empress (or the puppet Puyi, for that matter) ...

Yeah. Or visit Taiwan.
Taiwan is what China could/should have been.

I view China as a nation of extraterrestrial aliens living on Earth. I've other'ed the hell out of them. They are a weird and horrible people, and not even my love of Jackie Chan can change my mind on that.
