In another case of what some are calling “gamer entitlement,” CS:GO is being review bombed by players who previously spent money on the now free-to-play title. While the developers did provide a new Battle Royale mode, that wasn’t enough to quell the anger of fans, many of whom are demanding more than the simple loyalty badge they received for being prior investors. Long-time players also worry that F2P will lead to an influx of hackers and cheaters.

Many negative reviews also take issue with the change to Prime matchmaking. Previously, Prime matchmaking was limited to players who added a legitimate phone number to their accounts and had played enough to attain Rank 21. Now, anyone who had purchased CS:GO prior to the switch to a free to play model has been elevated to Prime.

Eh, sucks for anyone that dumped a ton of cash in it. Otherwise,if they are still mad, find another game or deal with it.

Every gamer gets butthurt for everything these days, that is starting to get more annoying to me than recent screw ups from various game devs. You get more content for free which is only a good thing, nothing says you have to play it but it helps bringing new players in. The F2P is discussable but not to the point of any mass boycott/butthurtedness to take place.

The deal with it attitude is funny as whomever says that didn't read what is going on. Without having to rebuy the game and make new accounts the volume of cheaters is expected to skyrocket. That will ruin the game. The idea that we care at all about having spent money on it eons ago isn't the issue at all. The concern is about the environment going to hell with mass cheating.

Honestly cheaters already ruined the game for the most part even before this update, cheat providers that have never been detected for the game's whole lifetime still exist to this day, but it is sure to get worse now. And I think Valve knows this, and instead of putting money into the game to fix that issue, they are just cashing in while they still can.

If the devs were not making much money then going free may at least keep the game running for a while longer.

I think latest figures I heard a year or so ago, is over 1 billion usd revenue, they were making money with it, this is just greed.

I have played the game competitively for many years now. Every time a steam sale took place, the game would drop to 10 dollars and for the next month, it was tough to play a ranked match without seeing a cheater. The game going free to play will likely kill the competitive scene unless you play through esea or faceit.

I drop in and play a few matches every couple of weeks.

Shame shame as I’ve been playing this game for close to 20 years.

This game has had a long run and I’ve probably purchased it 3-4 times.

I don't play but I would definitely demand the ability to be matched up only against other players that have paid for the game.

I read this exists. you become a "prime" member or something and there is an option to only queue against "prime"s.

Edit: I want to say there is some phone# verification too to help with the smurf accounts too.

This CS has always had to deal with cheaters now this will make the game unbearable.

It's only free to play because it's a game as a service now. If they match people up with invested players that all have cool skins n guns they bought, they will feel more likely to buy some paid content themselves. They're using their paying customers as a carrot :(

Honestly, a lot of these people need to get outside for once.

"Boo hoo, I paid X amount of money 5 years ago.."

Who said that? Your rump?

I'd recommend taking a step back and think about this for a second..
A massive amount of negative feedback reviews are written within a days time, due to the possibility of an influx of cheaters in the future....

How comical does that really sound?

That's pretty much blaming someone about something, before anything happened.

It happens commonly actually when a game goes ftp. That's the whole point we've seen this before.

Sure, but this is a 6 year old game that is a remake of an HL1 mod. At this point pretty much anyone who was going to pay for it, already has. As far as the cheaters, it's been infested with them this entire time and the ones that have been caught were just re-buying it. If anything Valve probably saw a drop in sales(which were most likely the few caught cheaters just buying it again) and decided they could halfass a BR mode and encourage more skin transactions(because they make money off of that).

It sounds to me like 14k people just need to move on. F2P or 99 cents is barely going to make a difference, and this isn't like a AAA game that's on sale for half off a week after launch.

I dl'd the freee to play game.... played it for a few mins.. lost interest.. it seemed very dated to me.. (which it is ).... I am glad I got to see it... been there, done that, didnt buy the t shirt..........

Yea cheaters have been ruining this game since before most of those butthurt kids were even born lol.

I do see it getting worse as with any F2P game sadly, which is why I try to avoid them. I do think Valve is getting a bit disconnected from what its customer base wants in many aspects.

Dangerzone is fun.

F2P does not negatively affect Trustfactor, which Valve is turning up to 11.

The world is not on fire. I played lots of CSGO over the weekend, nothing blew up...and I have so many hours on the CSGO franchise, I'm not butthurt about spending 15 bucks like 3 years ago.

The last time I played CS was when it was a HL mod, and even then people using wall hacks and aimbots were rampant. At this point, it should just be considered a part of the game's culture.

Oh yes, CS never had cheaters before lol.
I take you you never played the beta CS when it was still the gem of the HL modding community? As soon as it went public and all of the immature gamers came in and they brought rampant cheating.
F2P will make it worse since this is still a semi-popular game and now its open to anyone and everyone....So, yes, there was cheating in CS but never at the levels when news goes public.

My first contact with CS was a dude trying to convince me to start CS and download aimbots to start with. Said it was fun. I declined the honor.

I have never played this and have not played the Original Counterstrike in over a decade or more.

You know I played the original mod early on. Ran a server with some friends for quite a while. Tried playing this and i don't know how much has changed since then or how much I changed but I just could not have any fun with it anymore.

Ive played a lot of CS or CS:GO over the years and i damn near switched to console gaming to get away from the wall hacks and aimbots. I never thought i would like Blizzards overwatch but the game mechanics seem to make it hard to cheat.
