BioWare employee John Epler, who currently serves as Dragon Age: Dread Wolf’s narrative director, has announced on Twitter he will be bringing his politics into the recently teased RPG sequel. The game will evidently be used as a vessel to celebrate “our diversity and differences.” BioWare’s last big release, Mass Effect: Andromeda, was accused by many as having an agenda due to the “ugly” designs of its female characters, among other things.

Basically, this means that you’re looking at another Mass Effect: Andromeda or Dragon Age: Inquisition in the works. Keep in mind, though, that BioWare getting “woke” with Mass Effect: Andromeda cost them dearly, and the game ended up bombing on the marketplace. Battlefield V is also experiencing a similar fate. The series was built around a measure of historical authenticity, but the latest game abandoned that in favor of the developer’s personal politics.

Thanks for posting this, since it lets me know now to go ahead and avoid this game.

I'm not against diversity in the least, but I am growing tired of politics being increasingly shoveled into what's supposed to be a fun pastime and a way to escape the real world.

People game as a means to escape reality, so let me ask why would people want someone else's agenda aspiration forced down your throat in a medium defined by allowing you to choose your own agenda to follow rather than someone else's especially with RPGs where your character is supposed to be definitely yours or your version of someone.

Games are an avenue for people to represent different sides of oneself where in real life you may not express that side without....consequences of a very bad kind.

So I ask, Why when we are in a political dumpster dive of dog poo on fire do I need a game to remind me of a shitty reality??? ...and in all inevitability make me take part in some crappy left or right wing bs?

Plato said it best, paraphrased,
" The curse of being an intelligent man is knowing those ruling over you are of inferior intelligence and wisdom, as no wise or Intelligent man would ever involve himself in politics"

why can't they just make a game without bringing politics into it, and why go out and claim you are bringing politics and your stupid woke status into it, nobody asked you, looking for controversy from the get go, injecting their diversity often ends up making plot holes and cringy moments in games, sometimes the injection is so badly forced, it ends up ruining immersion.
tired of this crap.

no one gives a shit about diversity in a fantasy game. JESUS FORKING CHRIST. They're already more diverse than anything you're going to see in your life. Statements like this are a fictional fucking nightmare of misdirection and corporate spin. Saying the game is going to be diverse is literally like saying fish swim in water. I'm losing my mind and the game hasn't even been shown yet ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

But it always was..? Like always. People loved it. Honestly, almost nobody was triggered by any of the gay or the brown at all. Stuff sold great, even with the gay and the brown. I get that the right is demanding ever increasing amounts of censorship of the gay and the brown, but doing the same shit you always did isn't release worthy. Moreover, this isn't going to miraculously attract more people to your game, you want more people? Tell them you aren't going to flip assets and reuse levels over and over. Tell them you aren't going to stuff loot boxes into it. Tell them you're turning your back on games as a service and want to make the best single player RPG you possibly can.

One last time before EA takes the whole company out back and shoots it in the head for not being "monetizy" enough.

Im looking to make my game library diverse, by not ever buying another Bioware game again.

When's the last time they even put out a good game?

they are not making this to attract more ppl, they are doing this to get in the good side of the wanna be game journalists whom reviews ends up in meta critic scores, scores that ends up deciding if the devs get a bonus or not if they reach the target, and retailers also base the availability of their shelves to meta critics scores.
untill customers start voting with their wallets this crap won't change.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I liked 3, I hope 4 is good. Andromeda wasn't bad because it was diverse, it was bad because it was broken. Battlefield V isn't bad because there are women soldiers, it is bad because it is a reskin of 1, and they released it with features and game modes missing.

Cuz lord knows what I need after a long day in a world with all sorts of unpleasant things is to escape to a world with even more of those things.

Tweet more about how fun the game will be please. :/

So when Bioware sat around the conference table, this is what they decided people wanted to buy?

There's a big difference between what a chunk of Twitter thinks needs to happen and what people will enjoy.

Edit: To clarify, I don't care whose politics it lines up with as the below Tweet mentions. I don't want any of it in my entertainment.

All I hear from these developers is "we hate white males". That's like telling fat people they can't eat mcdonalds anymore cause they're too fat.
Can you please take a seat over there, we need to talk about your diet.

Typical Megalith shit post. Maybe actually source the tweets instead of just posting articles you know are going to generate hits because of clickbait.

I mean, nothing he is saying should be news if you've played through the series, considering how magic users, elves, etc are treated in the lore.

If only this sort of forward thinking had been around a few decades ago.

Imagine what it could have done for Star Trek: The Next Generation. Lieutenant Worf announces that he is actually a woman, and that he will now be called "Peggy". He begins wearing pretty pink dresses, and the entire crew of the Enterprise applauds his amazing bravery.

The other Klingons, on the other hand, begin to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Peggy play in any Klingon games.

Captain Picard is outraged, and calls all the Klingons Nazis. He declares war on the Klingon empire, determined to force the Klingons to take a more progressive attitude and to stop their dreadful microaggressions which exist solely to protect established power structures and maintain the patriarchy. Also, as if all of this wasn't bad enough, it appears some of them are wearing fur.

The whole situation is resolved when Q shows up and explains to the Klingon high council that gender is a social construct and that there are, in fact, an infinite number of gradations of gender, which can change at various times throughout a person's life or even throughout the day. He, Picard, and Gowron have a gay threeway, and everyone is happy again.

I think let's not get jumpy so far out. They have a lot of work to do before they can accurately describe what that work will look like. Several generations in they have some hints on things that work well and don't with the audience. And being decades in the lifespan the audience itself will evolve. So let's see.

Well... depends on how it is done. I love diversity in games when it isn't a forced thing. I like characters that look different, sound different, have different personalities, different motivations, etc. It creates a more rich and interesting world. Much more fun than a game where it is "Oh hey, it is generic action hero male #50 who is just like the last 49 copies I've seen." However, that only works when it is being done well, when it is being done to create a compelling universe. The problem is when people decide to force it, to shove it in your face. When they want to go "Look at this character! Aren't they diverse? Look at how progressive we are!" That gets annoying ruins immersion, and is generally indicative of lazy writing.

Well that’s another game I can pass on. Fuck you and fuck your political opinions, I’m sick and goddamn tired of listening to it! I swear to god, you can not escape these people’s constant barrage of divisive, politically driven bullshit, doesn’t matter the medium. TV, movies, news, print, games, social media, they just can’t shut the fuck up. Take your opinions, roll me up real right, and shove em right up your butt where they belong.

Diversity is what one comes across when digging through a drawer containing both their clean and dirty underwear.

well i'll wait till it comes out. I'm not hopeful though such postings usually mean the story and characters will be sub par.
