Bethesda Bans Fallout 76 Players for Life after Shocking In-Game Homophobic Attack

A group of high-level Fallout 76 players who called themselves the “gay eliminators” have been banned from the multiplayer-only title after following and killing another team. According to one of the victims, the incident began after ringleader “NathanTheHicc” was told his character looked “cute.” Advising he “don't fu*k with that homo sh*t,” he later launched an attack, stating he wanted to “decontaminate the AIDS.” Bethesda initially banned the harassers for three days but made it permanent after reviewing the footage.

"I got really angry too. These guys were running around targeting people and what if they targeted a kid playing that was struggling with their identity? What if they said all those things to someone that was playing solo and didn't have anyone to talk to? That can really mess someone up. Playing a game to escape reality and then that happens. That's why we need to be able to report these people and why companies need to do something about reports."

Teenagers being racist/homophobic/insisting they "69'd my grandmother last night and she loved every minute of it" have existed since the advent of online multiplayer, but FO76 is the controversy lightning rod of the moment so Weeee!

Punishment is for everyone who pays for that garbage, dude is absolutely getting pummeled but he shows no signs of being hit, just stands their like a statue, doesn't move, doesn't twitch, then he falls over "dead"

Forget war... People never change. The moment they brought in a no restrictions PvP mechanic into an online Fallout game this was inevitable. I'm surprised it took this long to see people hunted down like this in Post-Apoplectic Appalachia. It's like Mad Max with a Deliverance style twist.... Remember to reload and chug a nuka-cola in anticipation to running into these guys when the background music starts up with the banjos!

With all the bugs, confirmed low player count and crappy quest lines, this incident completes my "Never buy this game" bingo card. Sad to see this with a Fallout game, but I'll pass. :(
 
what do you expect when you release a project of a game that is a work in progress, unfinished, bugy and boring as hell, ppl act like asshole because it's more fun.
at this point bethesda should pull out the game and give refunds to everyone, rework the game from the ground up or throw it away, there is no need to keep this shameless excuse of a game to continue, it cannot be fixed, because it's problems is that of fundamental design not just bugs and balance or even the lack engaging features and stories.
 
I wouldn't be surprised to find out this was either wholly or partially staged. Bethesda needs to refund the money of the banned players. It doesn't matter what side of the fence you're on, this shit is destroying multiplayer gaming. The only way I can think to fix it is to give sensitive types their own safespace server or go back to running private servers. Of course this won't satisfy some because that's not what its really about.
 
Ruining the time old gaming culture. Eventually people are going to get to a point of why buying video games when the developer can just life time ban you. There shouldn't be intervention like that. It isn't their job and being mean never ruined any game, just look at Counter-Strike. We live in such weak times and if you don't give people a way to escape the real world they're eventually going to take all that bottled up energy and apply it in the real world. I wouldn't be surprised if we stop hearing about school shooters and start seeing them take it to the developers HQ in the future. Don't get me wrong it would be stupid but these days kids and grown ass adults have nothing else to care about in this world except their escapism in which gaming is apart of.

Assholes in online play have existed since there has been online play. The first time some stranger on the internet told me how they were banging my mom, we were still using boot disks to free up the max amount of memory for our dos games.

Griefers are going to grief. It's what they do. In this sort of game, where it is so easy to simply ignore other players and keep them off the server you are on, or keep yourself off the servers they are on, I can't agree with a ban.

Had a level 146 come in and just destroy my camp and rob the place while I was not there. I fast travel back and the fucker tries to goad me into returning fire so the fucker can kill me as well. I blocked the fucker, and changed servers. It is unlikely I will ever have to deal with them again. Plus the fucker has a bounty on it's head. Sooner or later someone will collect it.

The irony of people coming into this thread complaining about people getting upset too easily, yet they're complaining because some homophobic trolls got banned from a video game for their actions. I mean, unless I've missed part of the story, the victims aren't demanding millions in compensation from Bethesda and starting protest marches here. Some small minded idiots acted like dicks and were given a proportionate punishment. Where the fuck is the controversy here?
