Warm $150 for ryzen 5 1600 with wraith spire + Gigabyte ga-ax370 gaming

I also purchased this combo earlier to build a friend a mid-range gaming PC.

I put together two mining rigs with this board last year and they worked without issue. I repurposed one after I got out of mining to be an HTPC and it continues working well. Most of these ready at release Ryzen boards have lower reviews from when their BIOSes were poor (long boot times and poor memory compatibility); most of those issues are long-fixed.
 
I agree. Quite frankly I haven't had any problems with ryzen boards for most of this year as the bioses became more mature.

I am running a cheap ASRock x370 and I run all kinds of memory in it at rated timings and speeds
 
Of course, after noting previous positive experiences with this board, the one I just got was DOA... :rolleyes:

This is good info to know. I'm a pretty early adopter with the 1600x and an MSI Tomahawk B350 and it was honestly a nightmare to get running. Not just memory speed issues, either. I was getting the dreaded black screen / no display issue.

So, it is good info that Ryzen boards have gotten better.

I'm not sure if it was just bios related or they started figuring out the layout a little better. I still have a launch Asus X370 Prime Pro board that can still be a pain compared to second gen boards like the B350-F Strix and this X370 Pro4 board I have. My X470 Crosshair VII never gave me a single problem.

What was wrong with yours? I'm having issues with mine locking up. Not sure it's the board though.

Board briefly flickers to life after power on but then promptly dies. Typical of a short, I suppose. I swapped out all of the other components in the same order/purchase one by one into a known working Ryzen system and they all check out OK, and then swapped those other parts into this board, and same result, so I'm confident it's the board.

FWIW I was a day 1 adopter with a 1700X and Tomahawk B350, and it was initially a serious PITA with its ridiculously long boot times and memory incompatibility, but it definitely got better and better through 2017. When I upgraded to a 2700X and X470 combo, the B350/1700X was working as well as any board I've used.
