On Thanksgiving Day alone, shoppers used their smartphones to spend $1 billion online, an 8% increase, according to Adobe Analytics. E-commerce sales generated $3.7 billion in sales on Thanksgiving Day which is a 28% increase from a year ago. Adobe Analytics tracks sales from 80 of the top 100 e-tailers.

On Black Friday shoppers set new e-commerce records as they used smartphones to generate $2 billion in sales online according to Adobe Analytics. This is the first time that online shopping via smartphones has generated over $2 billion in sales in a single day. 33.5% of the $6.22 billion in online sales on Black Friday were attributed to smartphones. Overall Black Friday sales were up by 23.6%.

Buy online pick up in stores continues to be a popular option for shoppers this holiday season, with "click-and-collect" orders up 73 percent from Thursday to Friday, Adobe said. Target, Kohl's and Walmart are just a few companies that have been touting that option this year, hoping that when customers arrive to pick up their items, they'll buy more. Meanwhile, shoppers were seen buying more big-ticket items like appliances, furniture and bulkier electronics from their phones Black Friday, with average order values up 8.5 percent year over year to reach $146, based on Adobe's data.

buy online.. and have it delivered is even better

Lots of sales (MC etc), big time for Black Friday are in store only, buying online (if an option) allows you to be sure you get one and not stand in endless lines for a chance. It also allows you to get the item right now, not two or three days later.

I hate buying stuff on my phone but I did place an order for a ladder at Lowe's while I was on lunch break using it. I forgot to log in to so I didn't get free shipping, but most people think it was a price mistake and will get cancelled anyway.

I got a pair of gloves for $15 from Amazon. My only bf purchase. Did it on my phone too!

I dislike browsing on a phone. I never use it to buy stuff online but I did used it to place a few last minute bet on ebay while at work maybe 3 or 4 times.

Buy with store pickup can save significant shipping charges on items without free shipping if the store is reasonably close. Plus avoiding the BF craziness at some of the stores is worth it.

Still worth noting that even with all the hype about mobile, mobile, mobile, 2/3s of the purchases were NOT mobile.

I purchased with store pickup on some things and then waited until Saturday to pick them up. All from the comfort of my throne...I mean from my living room.

I'm curious if the research about people being unwilling to spend more than $250 on their phone still holds true. I haven't seen any recent data, but that used to be the magic number where people would opt to wait for desktop access before making a purchase.

And then have to request a refund/reshipment when your package is stolen because it is becoming SOP for companies to request packages be left outside if no one is there to answer the door when they deliver in what is typically working hours for most Americans.

You can request shipping companies to hold at their stores, might add a day to delivery time but if you live in an area where they have regular thefts, might be worth it in some cases.

Smartphone or not, the wife and I could not find anything we couldn't live without. What did you guys buy?

Meh, Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) is mostly made up of loss leaders. You know, there are only three of those TV's at that price (oh, and by the way, they are a gimped model that looks the same as the real thing, special made for Black Friday).

But now that we have lured you into our store you are more likely to buy other things that are not as discounted and make us lots of money.

I never shop during Black Friday or Cyber Monday. I do not like being tricked by scummy marketeers.

I picked up a Corsair 750 watt PSU for a decent price and a 1TB Samsung SSD. These are parts of my upcoming build - aiming for the spring. I was tempted to get the 2700x from MC, but decided I'm going to hold off.
Just need memory, CPU, GPU, mobo and maybe an m.2 boot drive.

Didn't China consumers spend a whopping 13 some odd billion on "Singles Day"..? Don't quote me but I heard on the radio they sold around 1.3 billion in the first 2 minutes of the "sale".. Crazy..

I stayed home for Black Friday, as usual.. Anyone out there give someone a black eye for $20 off?

And if you request the shipping companies to hold at their stores for pickup we get right back to the original point... just pick it up at the store you ordered from.

I bought literally nothing tech related, sediment filters, carbon filters, deionizing resin, and other associated items all so my aquarium can have ultra clean water... before I add salt to it :D

Was an option in addition to, not exclusive. I can walk to usps, but walmart is 30mins away, best buy is 45.

Didnt spend anything on "put you in the red" friday or monday this year.
