Fallout 76 Has Already Been Reduced to $35

Bethesda makes bad games for their community to fix. A Bethesda game with no mods should be a no-thank-you-no-brainer.

I'm trying to have sympathy for anyone who was expecting anything but a complete failure, I just can't.

Games like this are made by the player community. They need a larger player base fast or the game will just die off from lack of “content”.

btw it doesnt even look like a real studio developed fallout 76, bethesda put together a team of developers whos only experience Is DLC and p2w microtransaction games.

how in the fuck did this not raise any red flags? its literally colonial marines and bioshock 2 all over again. people are fucking sheep.

How is it literally Aliens: CM or Bioshock 2 all over again? Sega hired Gearbox to do Aliens: CM and then Gearbox pawned it off on an experienced FPS developer but gave them no time or money to get the game done. Then Gearbox (and Sega) showed off fake "demos" of the game to trick gamers. Bioshock 2 was built by a team of experienced developers, several from Bioshock 1 developer Irrational. 2K gave them a short time to shove a game out the door in order to capitalize on the success of the first game while Irrational worked on Infinite. Bioshock 2 was a case of too much of the same, but it really wasn't a bad game nor anywhere near as buggy as FO76 or Aliens: CM.

Holding off until it's cheaper and the bugs are largely gone. There are just too many horror stories of bugs (quests that cannot be completed, portions of camps disappearing/duplicating, whacky physics, crashes and freezes), then the emptiness of the wasteland that keep me away.

It's not surprising that Bethesda's latest creation engine game is riddled with bugs, but all of that was easily overlooked in a singleplayer experience (e.g. quick load to resolve). I just cannot bring my group into FO76 when they've grown accustomed to more polished online experiences.

I'm a fairly medium level fan of the Fallout series since 3, and I've pretty much decided to pass on this.

If they decide to make another story driven first person single player game in the series, I'll probably bite, but until that time, I'm out.

A real studio did develop it, for what the product was suppose to be. This was going to be the gift that keeps on giving for shareholders, another GTA5 or COD micro-transactions to the moon.
But then EA went and fucked up with micro-transactions and blew Bethesda's chance to strike it rich.

Now we have a product that was made to be one thing but can't be that thing, you know that pretty much sums up this game.

Commando all the way!

Huzzah commando! I have been commando for over 30 years, underwear is a thing I don't miss!

About two weeks ago I had to get up at 4 AM to drive 200 miles for a doctor's appointment. And since it was a doctor's appointment I wore a pair of boxer briefs (you never know). When I got to the office I was still groggy. I went to take a leak, and in the bathroom I unzipped my pants and (because I was still sleepy and wearing boxer briefs) couldn't find any part of my gender-specific equipment, and I stood there in front of the toilet thinking, "Fuck! my abdomen has swallowed my junk!"

I started going commando in the Army. We did these horrible three-week ground exercises in Yakima, and when you go into the field for two or three weeks with no chance of a shower (or any form of porcelain), lots of heat, lots of dust storms, lots of ticks, and 12 miles of rucking every day, 'commando' is the way to go. Got in trouble a few times, though, because I stayed commando even when we got back to Fort Lewis, where 'born free' is usually not part of the uniform of the day.

"We're going to Battalion for piss tests, gentlemen. Seanreisk, have you got your fucking underwear on?"

"No First Sergeant."

"Well go get your goddamned underwear, and congratulations, you've got Charge of Quarters on Saturday."

P.S. Oh, hey, and a comment about Fallout 76 ... Uh ... My C.A.M.P. stash is still full.

Hi, right here. I'm not going to bitch about a $25 difference. It's been a fantastic experience so far. Perfect? No. But every day this game meets my expectations and more.
Tons of content.

If we're at the point in our lives that $35, or even $60 is THAT dramatic of a purchase, you probably shouldn't be buying it in the first place.
I agree. I "tried" to play some of the pre-Fallout 4 games and they were terrible. I don't care about how great the story might be if the interface is awful. At it's core Fallout 4 is a combat simulator. The interface allows you to smoothly move and control your character in a manner that is "far superior" to the older Fallout games. I suppose if you have zero imagination you might need somebody to tell you a story, to hold your interest, but the Fallout 76 story is "you". It's about your adventures as you explore a post-apocalyptic landscape finding and hunting monsters.

Is it as good as Fallout 4? Not really; it's just a sequel after all... Something to keep the interest of the most hardcore fans until Fallout 5.

This game is like getting a colonoscopy without anesthesia, streamed on Twitch to your grandparents

So when are we going to hear from the people who paid full price for it again?

What, you feeling the need to feel superior again?

A little smarter than the rest hmmmm?

Got an ego that needs scratched?

As I recall, Amazon offered me a deal for pre-order, I knew I had to try the game, so I bought it and I am right here. I don't suppose you imagine that others who pre-ordered are hiding like they don't want you to know. Fucking full of yourself aren't you?

Fallout 3/4 combat is garbage, vats makes it barely passible. 1 and 2 where different beasts all together being isometric turn based RPGs, but you could shoot the nuts off anything in the game.

Even bethesda had it for $40 in their own store on bethesda.net. No one felt the need to put rdr2 on a discount, because people are ace buying it. Bethesda shit the bed with this one and they know it, and people aren't willing to overlook their crap in a multi-player game.

Since they plan on using the same garbage engine for es6 and starfield, I expect it to continue. Not sure how they thought people were going to accept less content than fo4 for $60, and even fo4 was lacking but it at least had NPCs you could interact with.

OK, first things first, yea I am thinking hard at uninstalling but I am also going to try something once before I do. I've gotten myself into an area that is too high for my character and it could be affecting my opinion.

That out of the way, I haven't felt that it's short on content at all. The lack of NPCs don't bother me because it's not that big a difference to me. But I do have a really huge problem with the latest patch that nerfed the durability of melee weapons.

As I played the game and started leveling I learned that melee was working really well for me. So naturally I started specing my character out for strength and endurance. Then just as I turned level 25, they patched the game and reduced the durability of melee weapons. I can change out cards, but I can't respec my characters SPECIAL attributes, my character is fucked so I am pretty pissed about it. An arbitrary decision like this has a huge effect on people's characters and they have no way to counter it without starting over and frankly, it smacks of that developer arrogance I despise the most.

See, for some devs, it's not enough to build a game world, and then sit back and enjoy what people are doing with it. Some devs feel this need to realize a vision and they will warp game mechanics to unreasonable levels to force their vision on their customers. "You will play my game they way I want you to play it".

They want to force players to interact. If you need proof all you have to do is look at how the game handles ammunition. I can buy ammo, I can craft ammo, but I can't sell it and I can't scrap it. They want to force players to interact by forcing them to trade ammo. And it's not like there is a "marketplace" where I can put my .50call ammo up for trade for 45.70 ammo. No, I have to find a player and initiate a trade directly with them. This is the kind of bullshit that I despise and am pretty sure I'll uninstall over.

I find someone getting their panties in a wad over the lack of story telling and NPCs in a game that the developer said is going to be different a bit on the doh side of things. I mean what would you expect. But the map is huge, and their is loot to horde everywhere. The stash issues and overburdened issues are huge and need real adjustments. But if you were expecting a story game out of a game that was never built to tell much of a story, I don't know what to say. Did Bethesda not tell us all it wasn't going to be the same?

What does it say about some people who bought this game knowing it wasn't going to be like the previous games in the franchise and now they are unhappy that it's different? I mean, you didn't buy the game thinking that they were joking right?

Just to be clear, I'm not happy with the game because the game doesn't stand up well under it's own merits. I am also unhappy with how casually the developers are will to fuck over their consumers with arbitrary significant game changes. But I am not accepting of the attitude that this game doesn't measure up because it doesn't have things that the previous ones did, when the developer told us these things in advance.

EDITED: So I just made up my mind on this and returned the item on Amazon. I'll take my money back.

Not surprised... people wanted co-op play.. not his crap.

The reason something like minecraft can work with having no real story and just a sandbox is that it did not come from a long line of story based games. If fallout 76 were to have just been a new IP I think it would have a better survival chance. Following fallout4 but with a coop mode would have been a better idea but that is just my opinion

I played Fallout 3, NV and 4 without any problems at all. Not at launch, granted, but by the time I got around to them, they were always fixed

Balance adjustments, the number one reason I hate multiplayer only games.

^ This. Goes all the way back to Diablo II on Battlenet. I logged in, a patch installed, and suddenly my Paladin was useless. May even be older examples.

Eat a Snickers cupcake and point on a doll where I hurt you.
IIRC, a few weeks ago, news was posted that a lot of people were vocal about having to pay full price while the game's price dropped shortly after release.

You must have rushed through all 3 games to have never encountered a glitch.

I don't feel like I rushed through anything.

I'm by no means a completionist extremist, but I generally try to do every side quest I come across in the normal progress of the game, without going nuts and aimlessly wandering the map hoping to find hidden secrets.

What could have contributed to my lack of a buggy experience is that for Fallout 3 & NV, I only played them YEARS after they came out. There was plenty of time for Bethesda to patch them bit by bit. For Fallout 4, I also did not play it immediately at launch, so many of the launch bugs were likely already addressed.

I also never tried using SLI or Crossfire in any of these titles, as I sore them off years ago, so this probably saved me some headaches.

Did you play Fallout 3 and NV on Windows xp? I played both of those games on Windows 7 (tried most of the fixes I could find) and they crashed so frequently, at some given point in the game, that I just quit playing. These were the ultimate editions fully patched up the wazoo.

Funny thing is Fallout 4 worked good for me as far as I remember from launch.

I think I played them under Windows 10, but I can't remember now. As I said, YEARS after launch :p

Its definately looking like my worst gaming purchase of the year. Destiny2 was last year's winner.

I thought that about Destiny2 last year as well. I at least played that a while. I have just shelved fo76. It's just FO4 with less fun story and a lot more tedium. And it's broken.

I've been expecting FO76 to get this sort of reception from the day it was announced. Bethesda makes excellent games from a creative standpoint, they are good at creating large open worlds that remain fun and interesting for a long time. From a technical standpoint though, their games are not so great. They are always full of bugs when they release and require a lot of time, patches, and modding community help to really hit their stride. Their engine sucks and their games have always been rough around the edges as a result. People give their technical shortcomings a pass because it's worth dealing with them to spend time in their well crafted worlds. But when you replace that well crafted world with one that's lifeless and boring, and simultaneously introduce the massive technical challenge of putting together a large, online game (of which Bethesda has zero experience with), you're asking for a lot of bad things. This is a game that plays to all of Bethesda's weaknesses without taking advantage of any of their strengths.

I have a hard time Bethesda even wanted to make this game. It seems more like Zenimax told them they had to make FO76 to cash in on the popularity of the survival/crafting genre. They should have focused on Starfield and TES6 instead.

I'd argue even that. I tend to get tired of Bethesda games since they all feel like the same thing with a story / presentation that never really grabs me. As far as creative excellence, when's the last time Bethesda developed (not published) a game NOT based on an existing IP? I think they had a racing game in 2006, beyond that, it has to be early 90s. They've practically been remaking the same game for decades with variations on the theme and gameplay each time.

If you buy something two weeks before black friday, that's on you.

But that usually DOESN'T apply to new game releases. It's only in the last couple of years that we've seen a few games get discounts before the holidays, on "just released" but "poorly performing" games. No games that anyone wants are now a better deal than buying them smart at release - like getting RDR2 for $48 on release at Best Buy... it's now costing the same or more depending on where you look.

I'm sure you're right that it was ZeniMax, because they own Bethesda and the IP, but Bethesda GameWorks didn't make FO76. It was another studio, using their engine and tools. Not that GameWorks would have done much better technically, but I doubt they'd release a game in this state or lacking any decent content at all. They're not quite there yet, but trying!

You opened the door not I.

Now something walks through you didn't expect and you want to act defensive about it.

You act like all the people who paid full price are hiding afraid to show their faces like they'll feel stupid.

I'm here saying I paid up front and I'm up front about it and I don't feel foolish at all.

So here we are, don't act like I'm being over sensitive, you dialed the number to the circus show not I.

After the crashes and problems I had with FO3, I never even bothered to even get NV. I was at a point where I discovered an alien shop, cleared out the whole thing, returned back, and boom, game crashes.

So when are we going to hear from the people who paid full price for it again?
Maybe I need a 2nd option on what I posted where you think I'm "superior again", "smarter than the rest", having an "ego", or full of myself, because I'm missing it?
Could you point that out?
Can't find the news post of the game that was discounted weeks ago.

I didn't start this, you did.

So don't start pissing in the wind and then complain when the wind direction changes.
Only thing I started was asking a question because weeks earlier, people weren't too happy a game got discounted shortly after it was release, which for whatever reason triggered you.
So the only one pissing in the wind, is you, and it looks like a full blown hurricane.

Preorder=Bad.

In other news world still turns.
