Ok, sorry for the rant, I would like to ask the question here since I don't normally visit any other forum.

I have had a family plan (it was 5 lines until recently) with some extra discounts since 2005 or 2006 (this is where the grandfathered option comes in). I have been out of contract for a long time now and yesterday I decided to get on a Best Buy promotion that gives me $600.00 OFF on 2 Galaxy S9s. I did call the AT&T store near my house first to give them first crack at getting my business but the young lady on the phone told me they had no such promotion, the only one was if I were to get a new line, which I don't want nor need. she insisted to get the line and then cancel my other number (I am still trying to figure out what the advantage of doing that is vs the headache of telling everyone I have known for over 20 years that I swap phone numbers. I am getting a headache just thinking about it). But I digress.

The young man helping at BB is very efficient and tells me he will get me out of there in no time flat because it is a simple process since I own my phones and I am not going to trade them in (I am now thinking he jinxed the whole thing :p) but when he is getting towards the end, the system does not allow him to let me keep my old plan and is forcing him to put me on a new plan?

He then tells me the only option is to call AT&T and ask to see whether they can put me back to my old legacy plan once we are done with the process, to which I declined and told him I rather we call first since I trust AT&T honesty as far as I can throw them and this is not very far. Sure enough, none of the people I contacted wants to take me on since apparently it is a bother to them or they just don't care enough because they are on a salary.

My only 2 options now are to seek shelter elsewhere (xfinity + verizon, which don't get me wrong, have the worst customer service even though I heard they have spent money trying to clean up their act) or buy my own phones and just swap my SIM card to them because I see no other alternative.

Thanks

If you want the new promotions, you'll need to either be on a supported plan or a new plan. That's just how it works. Honestly, unless you have to be on a particular cell carrier, I'd switch to another carrier every couple of years. (I'm stuck on TMo because of its excellent included international data roaming plans.)

You are more likely shit out of luck. I am sure they want all those old plans to finally die off. You might be able to do something through at&t if you get the right person on the line. Buying from a 3rd party is just going to complicate things more and very likely will result and what you don't want.

Buy the S9s from Samsung.com, or unlocked from Best Buy, they're $520 outright. If you have a student or work account with Samsung (VERY easy to get) the price goes down to $480. Problem solved.

After a few hours of debate with different people at AT&T and the problems at Best Buy, I was able to learn that if you want things to happen you must ask for Customer Loyalty Dept. and things will get done. Of course I understand why that is the last line of defense, most people cave and take the newer plan, some of us rather not pay more for less. sometimes yes, the new plans give you more but more times than not, you pay more for less.

Anyways, apparently the Customer Loyalty Dept was able to put my plan back along with my discounts so all is well... so far and knocking on wood. :D

And yes, $ 490.00 is what I am going to end up paying with the difference that instead of shelling out 1200 cheeseburgers (taxes, etc), I am going to be paying 16.33 a month per phone for 30 months.

What’s your current plan and discounts? Im curious what was worth all the headaches for?

I hung on to sprint SERO for years. All the hassle and headache and hoops I had to jump through to swap phones, attempt discount upgrades etc was just not worth it.

There are so many alternatives that are pretty cheap now. If you own your phone, it’s not worth the headache and hassle. If you have a comparable newer plan it’s just much easier

Family plan of 4 lines with 20GBs of Roll Over data... 300MBit fiber internet for 50 bucks plus 25% off at the bottom of my bill. There is no way that any new promotions will get me there that is why I am careful with it. The 300 fiber for 50 was because after the 8th appoinment for install (no lie and no exageration) they told me the 50 for 50 was no longer available and they had to upgrade me to it.

As far as they have told me everything is back but i gotta wait for the bill to pop up in a few days before i count my chickens

You're pretty much stuck with just buying your own phones. Don't get tempted by AT&T promotions ever again.

I had AT&T internet + TV for a while with 1 year contract. Everything was good until I got a phone call from AT&T telling me that there's a new package with more channels and lower rate. Little did I know saying yes to that means they upped my contract to 2 years, and that low introductory rate is just for 6 months and I wind up paying $80 more a month after that. I paid early termination and went to Comcast. Those fuckers...

Wow, it was a fight with me and Comcast to get 150mb internet for $50/month, I'd take your package in a heartbeat!

Oh believe me, it is all warms and fuzzies now but when you have to wait for them asshats during their allotted window times and the excuses is to blame someone else for the installation not being finished, the story gets old and it gets old quick. I wasn't really expecting it but I guess they took pity on me and since it was their own fault why the 50Mb for 50 bucks was no longer available and it appears the 100Mbit wasn't either they jumped me to the 300Mb.

Truth be told, there is something wrong with it, all the speed tests show that I am going that fast but seat of the pants tell me otherwise... pages tend to open slower than before with the Xfinity 25Mbit, download have horrible speeds, I mean very slow, downloading an average youtube video just for testing took about 20 mins or so. They had initially left the ADSL line I had from the backyard box to my room as the new connection until I went to checked and noticed it, it was Cat 3 and was peeling all over the place (being about 15 years old no less). I am sure the modem/router I am using is also a piece of shit and this was given to me by a customer of mine that happened to work for ATT and told me it was a tad better than the one given originally (BGW210). I tried to use my Asus router but couldn't (sure this was about a year ago and I have not tried since).

I do wish I could buy (hell no) USE my own router instead of this piece of shit but I am sure I can't... can I?

Believe me, neither of these two phuckers get my vote for Company of the year and the pisser here is that you have to be on your toes when it comes to both of them. I do hate change but I hate more paying for something that I feel I am not using nor I need to pay for.

I believe those were the instructions I followed but I was unable to get it going and did not persist. I may follow that link again and see where I can get with it now.

Thanks
