Fallout 76

I have to admit, I had no interest in this game but as usual, I've got at least one friend raving about it. To be fair, he likes almost everything. So, I watched that entire video review and I can't believe anyone could give that pile of shit a pass.

The only people who give this game a pass are

A. Do it to justify their 60-200 dollar purchase
B. Were only a fan of Fallout since Fallout 3
C. Are in denial, which also circles back around to A.

Or D. Easily amused.

I'm in the (D) group. 60 bucks doesn't hurt my feelings, I've blown more on bigger mistakes. I've played the fallout games since the first ( I want to say it was on my OC'd 486, but it might have been a pentium ).

Anyway, I'm entertained by the game. There are some rough patches, sure, but i've having a good time with it. i do miss a lot of the "character" from previous games, but I'm hopeful they'll show up as the game is updated.

Well, to each his own. I'm glad that you are having fun with it. I myself stopped buying games based on hope a long time ago. The game either is what it is when it comes out, or it isn't. There's no sense in hoping a game will get better, especially when you're using your hard earned money to purchase it.

The video is 100% negative opinions, not one redeeming quality. I kept waiting for him to say "despite all its problems, heres the one thing I liked in fo76" but it never happened.

He didnt like a single thing in the game? Not even, idk, the radio tracks? It seems very forced.
And his response Reddit comment...

Totally agree.

Wow I watched this video and man he made a good point on the NPC's....Can't have NPC's in a MP game if people would kill them. Because in every fallout game you can kill 99% of the NPC's....interesting I really like his perspectives. I wasn't too happy about no NPC's but it all makes sense to me now.

But yea it does seem like a BETA fallout.

How so? Just make quest NPCs unkillable. This isn't some theoretical idea either, nor something Bethesda/Zenimax has no experience with: The Elder Scrolls Online is full of NPCs, fully voiced, with selectable dialogue responses, in a world where there is a mechanic for killing NPCs. None the less, they've solved the issues with it nicely, in the case of killing it just doesn't work on quest givers and such.

So this idea they don't know how to do it is rather silly. They've done it, years ago, they have a functioning world that does it. Now they chose not to use any of the same tools for 76, for whatever reason. ESO isn't based on the Creation Engine, it is based on their modification of the Hero Engine. However they had the resources, they had the institutional knowledge. They just chose not to use it.

To me this seems like he's trying to make an excuse for them, rather than actually showing a legit reason.

In other words you want me to listen to you and buy it to validate your choice? No thanks. I've been looking all around at opinions on this. On H, on Youtube, on Metacritic I'm curious what people have to say about it.

.

I used to go to Metacritic for every review.

Never again. The users on that site are toxic as fuck.

Well for $35 I decided to jump on board. For that amount of money even if I enjoy simply exploring the wasteland it'll be worth it.

Same here...so far its fun exploring solo. I hit level 10 and some of the areas I am getting to are definitely team/multiplayer focused, but still managed slowly to take out the ~30 mutants in the town (mostly just by running around sporadically to thin there lines and head shot them ever so slowly between vats and luck).

I did encounter a crash to desktop when claiming a workstation and setting up my turret defense systems. Kind of upset about this as I wasted a good amount of resources to setup the power generators, mining stations, turrets...for the game to crash and then when I started it up again, it didnt have me owning the workshop, but my resources were gone.....

One thing I hope they "enhance" is to not allow murder during public event areas. Was doing a public event and some guy just kept purposely running in front of me in hopes I would shoot him, so he can shoot me back, and initiate pvp.

For the 33% off deal that is going on...not upset. Hopefully as time goes by, the issues get worked out, more content, etc.

Playing some more I've had some connection issues and a game freeze. The mob ai is all over the place basically meaning broken. Some mobs will stand there while you hit them and do nothing. You not can also use the fact that mobs fight each other to get high level kills and beat public events solo. As everyone seems to know it's without question in a beta state.

They have a lot of work on their hands to fix this and don't have the benefit of a huge modding community to fix it for them. I think Bethesda is in for a shock if they aren't already shitting themselve now that they have to fix their own game.

yea I mean why dog on a game you havent even tried? We understand you dont want to buy or play it....We get it! Seriously go have fun playing another game you will enjoy.

I agree.

BUT, there is a happy middle-ground.

For example, I don't post in the Star Citizen thread even though it is the biggest joke in the industry.

Why? Because other people seem to be enjoying themselves and who am I to piss on their parade?

Better to have both sides of an opinion to read about than just opinions from fanboys or haters.

IGN gives it a 5.0 as well too bad it wasn't a stand alone single player game with no online needed.

I'm blown away by the site reviews, to be honest.

I've played games I thought were "OK" or "sub-par" at best while the reviews were shit, but I've never once played a game that I REALLY enjoyed while the reviews were complete shit. Not once.

I usually get bored of games at the 20 hour limit. I think I'm pushing 35-40 soon on this and don't have an ounce of boredness yet.

This is starting to become World of Warcraft obsessive, which isn't too good when you have a ton of shit going on IRL, lol.

Exactly the same way I feel here. About 50 hours in right now.

It was odd at first, but once you realize this game isn't going to hold your hand, and you've got to figure shit out for your self, the game shines even more.

Fallout 4 was easy to complete, had all of the brainless NPCs to lend you the cliche fetch quests that people here want, and yet I've never found myself going 12 straight hours of making/playing my own agenda as I am in FO 76 and still feeling productive/enjoyment.

This game gets better every hour I play.

Someone will be along in 5min to tell you you're wrong and you can't be having fun.

I think I'll give the game a couple more patches and then dive in and make up my own mind. The internet brigading on this game is way too loud and obnoxious to know what criticisms to take seriously, especially with repeating swill like "it's not the full single player game I want" (no shit) and "I can't run my big boobs mods". SMH.

The outrage complex will move on to the next controversy and this game will probably get better with age.

I think it's funny how many who have played 0 hours of the game tell me I cant possibly enjoy the game. It's actually quite fun to explore and see whats gone on and realize it was not just Vault Tec that did experiments on the public it was also the US military and other corporations and all the messages they left behind. Even if the bombs never dropped bad things were about to happen anyway. Plus its fun to on occasion group up and take on some serious threats. Plus there is NPC's they are just robots since there are multiple reasons why the area is devoid of human life except us vault dwellers. It's different but it's still fun to explore the world just like it was before.

It's not like I've never played what was considered a bad game and enjoyed it despite what everyone else thought. Too Human for the Xbox 360 was one of my favorite games for that console and it was mired in controversy and received shit reviews, didn't stop me from loving it flaws and all. And it's not like I've never been irked by the way the internet can dogpile on a game like a bunch of lemmings. I was a fan of Mass Effect Andromeda and I'm sure everyone remembers what a clusterfuck that game generated on the internet. But at least ME:A was a solid PC release from a technical standpoint. Looked beautiful, supported ultrawide, plenty of graphics options, easily could rebind keys. I can't say the same for FO76. FO76 suffers from consolitis big time and my run through the beta firmly put me in the wait for patches and hope it improves camp.

Same here. This was really driven home when I was playing with my friend last night. He's blind rushing through the quest and I'm....scrounging. He's seriously doing the "OK, we go from point A to point B, then point C" and I'm like, "Holy shit, look at all these desk fans and typewriters. Jesus! 5 fucking toy cars? It's fucking christmas!". Later he's getting his ass handed to him by a group of scorched, and I'm like, "Ya ya, I'll be there in a minute. Just found two rolls of Military grade duct tape!" ( ballistic fibers don't just grow on trees, afterall, to say nothing of the adhesive ). We're basically playing two different games, and having a blast with it.

It's not Fallout 1&2, true; but then neither was fallout 3+. I like the world, and when I get a quest where the next is literally "Kill a wendigo while wearing a clown suit"...well, I'm entertained.

Well worth the 60 bucks, for me.

My wife and I have been having a fun time with it. It's just like the other FPS Fallout games only the quests are being given by robots rather than people. Gameplay-wise I think it's probably better since VATS isn't overused. I find the shooting to be a lot sharper and more effective. Bug-wise I've noticed that the game doesn't like having multiple players with the same quest popping in and out of a server. That's when markers and quests tend to disappear temporarily. Logging in and out seems to fix things, but it can be scary when your quests look like they've disappeared. It's no buggier than previous TES and FO games, though. These bugs aren't permanent at the very least.

The encumbrance thing is annoying mainly because the game lumps construction items in with your junk. It's tough to tell what you can and can't get rid of because essential ingredients (like adhesive and plastic) get lumped in with things that either have limited or no practical use. I'd like to see them tweak the item categories better.

Very early on I was annoyed by the food and water element, but it's no big deal once you get used to it. The key is to stick to pre-packaged stuff. Don't spend a lot of effort cooking food because it wastes your water, it spoils, and it usually isn't as effective. Just eat the preserved stuff you find and drink boiled or purified water. Once you get used to that, you'll stop wasting time, weight, and effort for minimal gain.

For myself, I tried. I was on the fence, and a friend had already pre-purchased, so I had the opportunity to give the game a try before buying my own copy - I'm really glad I did, because I didn't waste the money. My biggest issues:

* The world is completely dead. Even in the later Fallout games, the NPCs and their dialogue provided at least a nominal sense of a living world
* 'Quests'. Necessary items gone, not instancing these things / mobs is insane in 2018. The last time I can remember having this type of issue was with Everquest - camping a spawn? No thank you.
* Storage limits. These also make no sense to me, especially in the camp.
* Base building. Yay, I can make a blueprint. Oh, wait, I can't put it here because you say it doesn't fit? Well.
* Combat. Fallout has never been a really good FPS, and that is compounded here.

Even if the later versions of Fallout leaned a bit more heavily into trying to be a FPS, there were still enough RPG elements to keep me engaged in the world. There were still characters to interact with, motivations to uncover, factions to befriend or betray, etc.

Everything I've ever liked about Fallout is absent in this game.

They needed to make this game a amusement park game where you go from one ride to another ditch the interface have world events timed bosses and just get away from Fallout 4.

Things
are
looking
desperate.

With the holiday weekend behind us, we've transitioned from "They won't release a patch over the holidays" to "Will they release a patch during my lifetime?" phase. That's never a good phase.
Has Bethesda given up and tossed FO76 in the garbage? Or are they working feverishly around the clock on multiple big upcoming patches? Time will tell. But the community is getting hungry.

What reason does Beglitchia have to bother working on patches when they know the community will do all the work for them?
