RTX 2080 Ti FE Escapes Testing by Dying After 8 Hours @ [H]

It's the gtx280 all over again

Maybe the fixed product will be rtx 2085 ti
I've been going to mention the GTX280 also. My first card lasted a couple of months, then died. Underclocking a huge amount got it working again for a bit, then it degraded more. The RMA with Evga went very smooth and the replacement seemed to work great, then died the same way after a couple of weeks. No overclocking, just stock. The next RMA fixed the problem and the card lasted until the next upgrade (GTX 480 as I recall).

My current Evga GTX2080Ti FTW3 Ultra has been working great for the past month. Hoping for the best.

Well I just requested a "Refund" for my 2080 Ti. Card is working fine and all is good, but I can't have this hovering over the life of the card that any day could be the day it dies. Reason given to nvidia was "Quality issues with this product". An RMA was issued with return label and upon them receiving the product a refund will be issued with in 5-7 days.

Back to my trusty 1080 hybrid. And my son gets a new 1070 Ti for keeping my 1080 warm.

Green team dropped the ball on this one. :(

I had a 4870 that went bad. Like your 280 a big undervolt got it working again but just a few days later it finally died. At the least it was an interesting experience.

Not only did they drop the ball, They fumbled it on their own 1yd line, and the other RED team kicked it to the moon and it never came back.

I'm not up to snuff on my football (maybe kicked to the moon is bad) but red still really has nothing. It's like Nvidia fumbled at the 1 yard Line of the NFL and RED is still playing University league. They might be in the NFL next year, but that's a lot of time to fix a fumble.

We are talking the high end of gpus here, not mid range (hence University league).

I guess you could say it's like their quarterback was disqualified with a 54pt lead.

Well AMD doesn't need a top of the line card, they sell plenty of mid range cards at reasonable prices. Only enthusiasts ([H} with lots of income buys $1200 video cards.

AMD will beat Nvidia's ass when 7nm cards come out next year. Then Nvidia goes out of business.

They fumbled in their [H]igh end zone. And i recovered it for the "safety" of my GTX 1080.

Just stop with the crystal ball, it's ridiculous, fan boys on both sides are.

NVidia is going nowhere, AMD has been and even is closer to disappearing.

Nvidia made a decent blunder AMD might be able to capitalize on, but nVidia is still magnitudes larger than AMD and only competes in one space, whereas AMD has to compete in two.

As for mid range, they trade blow for blow, AMD is not a clear winner, only edge they have there is the console market.

I say all this as someone who is pissed off with nVidia, it's just reality.

What a nightmare. Sold a 980Ti and gave the other to my brother in anticipation of these new cards. Saw the issues and waited. Now nobody trusts the 2000 cards, so prices of the 1080 Ti in Canada went from approx $900 to $1300-1500 and are nearly sold out everywhere. Time for me to say the hell with PC gaming for a while until this all gets sorted out.

Sad. With shit like this no wonder PC gaming continues to lose ground.

How do you imagine that happening?

You sure seem like a fan boy with all your posts.

7nm, if AMD can push it to market fast enough. I doubt it will be the new top end, but it maybe enough to get sales from Nvidia as they have over priced the 2080 ti that has all these problems. If they can bring it in at 1080 ti performance at a slightly lower cost, that will be enough for most.

AMD needs to be smart and play the long game, strategicly chip away at their competition without making blunders like bulldozer, if they do so in a decade they might be able to take the crown.

I wonder if they are qualified before they get boxed?
Good point. Can you imagine the commercial users dealing with racks and racks of these burning up/failing? It would be a massive fallout.
Maybe we get the the reject dies that don't pass the testing, who knows. Whatever is the issue it's sure going to be interesting to find out.

This is starting to remind me of the ol Xbox 360 RROD

Actually this is far worse. People didn't have massive RROD failures in the first few months of release. It took 9+ months for it to even start happening... other than some oneoffs.

OUCH!!! Looks like I'm sitting out this green generation ---> my 1080ti still has legs so it's no big deal! :)

Wow... I really thought AMD was a larger company over all. But looking at Market Caps, AMD is 18.xxx billion and Nvidia is 88.xxx billion. Wow....

That's really quite the difference, and I don't see Nvidia disappearing due to this. They will have to reclaim the top spot mindshare after this but as long as they do I think they will be fine. AMD would have to really come out with a stellar lineup where even their midrange card is beating Nvidia's top of the line.

I don't see that happening.... yet.

So, after a hearty T-Day dinner together, do you suppose Huang and Su talked turkey?

Eh, if I had a choice between failing within a month or a year I’d take a month.

Exactly. My 2080 Ti has been running just fine so far... But if it's going to fail, I hope it happens soon. Spending $1,300 on a GPU only to see it fail a few months after the three year warranty would be pretty rough. On the other hand, I can't remember the last time I stuck with the same GPU for longer than a year or two.

I like to stick to something for at least 3 to 4 years. My 2080 Ti is doing just fine as well. But 1200 bucks and all this negative cloud hovering is a no go for me. I have to send it back and ride the storm out. maybe next gen.

What worries me further is, if you visit Newegg, BestBuy, Amazon, etc, there are VERY few reviews people are leaving for the AIB cards. Many cards still have zero reviews (which suggests that far fewer cards are shipping than people may think...).

BUT... of the reviews people ARE leaving, a good number of them are "card died" "card has X problem" reviews. For example, on Newegg, the EVGA TI XC Ultra has 38% "card died" reviews! 38%!!!! I've been buying cards since the Voodoo 3, and I can't ever remember cards getting anywhere near that kind of percentage "card is dead" reviews.

BestBuy 2080TI FE reviews are 22% "card is dead/having major problems" reviews.

Let's also keep in mind that retailers (especially BestBuy....) reject a certain percentage of negative 1 star reviews and never post them... and this gets even uglier.

.01 percent failure rate my a**.....

To be fair I think a lot of issues aren't the hardware itself but just shit drivers that were/are causing crashes and BSOD.

But still, there is a large amount of hardware failures that isn't normal.

please realize, its not the design or the parts.
Its not a problem like it used to be years ago. It's more a mistake that someone other than us did.
I see that some people are experiencing problems but you can rest assured that we know about this.
but at only .01% its hard to find out about what problem you might be having.
Our first thought was it was windows, or it could be your internet provider.
But it doesn't matter who's fault it is, we will find them.
ps we decided to raise the price by 18% to make sure this doesn't happen again.

There's a 12 page thread up on the Nvidia forums where I counted no less than 80+ 2080Ti's dead and several 2080's (non Ti) and a few 2070's... So, something stinks over at Team Green.

I have noticed the failure listings on the Egg too, not looking too good. Keep seeing articles that seem like Nvidia fan service "Despite rumors of failures, all the cards have sold out anyway"... Rumors my muscular buttocks!

Could it simply be a matter of people being more vocal these days? Could they have sold one million cards? 100 disappointed vocal users. I don't know.

Could it all be blown out of proportion?

Or maybe its just hubris. One thing that has blown out of proportion in this realm is ego. The designers never envisaged so much ego, and the ego unit has been running over capacity for a while now.

Is it possible that "rtx cores" are fake? , I mean 2080ti has about 25% more cores than 1080ti, but then its supposed to have additional hardware to do the ray tracing.

What doesn't make sense to me is a new product that has additional hardware to run a new feature, but its performance is about half that of its predecessor. ie 2080ti @ 4k with rtx on roughly half the fps of 1080ti @ 4k.
Why would you build additional hardware into a GPU that bottlenecks the GPU? It doesn't make sense!

So what it looks like to me is either, rtx cores are just normal cores doing raytracing, or
when rtx cores are enabled, half of the normal cores must be turned off, or the thing melts, which doesn't make sense, hence, is RTX hardware fake?

The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Oh, and hi, thanks for letting me in, hello everyone and everything, [H]arden the fuck up.

Maybe it is blown out of proportion. But the fact that [H] review team has 2 of 3 cards dead doesn't look good. Another reviewer had a 2070 die on him. That is 3 cards dead. I think the cards GN got as broken were sent in, but even in that case, they have i think 2 or more dead cards with them too.

GN had a dozen or so that were sent in by their readers/viewers

A single user has had 3 cards and more than one with 2 cards here alone.
0.01% is nda-crew fake news for fake hardware sites and uninformed idiots + nvidia fanboys to parrot. 0.01% chance of 2 or 3 cards failing? Do the maths, I can't but it appears to be a 0.00001% chance to get 3x cards in a row.

Looks like 7800GT fiasco all over again, I had 4 EVGA 7800GT die after a month of usage due to faulty memory controller.

Remember that time when Tom’s said to just buy it?

Yeah, that was a good read. Especially in hind sight

I don't think anyone is going to let them forget that for a very, very, long time. I still check their threads occasionally and it's brutal.

So far all of the failure #'s are anecdotal. "I know two other owners with no issues, I guess everything must be fine!" Trying to mathematically piece together failure rates based upon forum postings is going to pull crazy skewed numbers. People who are happy with a product don't post nearly as much as those who have had issues. It's VERY clear the FE cards have a higher failure rate than Nvidia is reporting, but the OEM cards don't appear to be nearly as affected. Time will tell.

For what it's worth,
Yes, your card is immune. No need to worry.

I have a 3 year warranty and I upgrade every 2, so as far as I'm concerned there isn't.
