Hitman 2 launched awhile ago, but the game's first "elusive target" mission only appeared in the game today. Starting now, you, too, can kill off Sean Bean. I/O Interactive seems to be aware of the actor's reputation for dying, as the he plays the role of "The Undying" in game, who is notorious for repeatedly escaping assassination attempts by faking his own death.

Check out the full mission briefing here.

You only have 14 days to eliminate Mark Faba, played by Sean Bean, in HITMAN 2’s first Elusive Target starting November 20th. Fail and the mission disappears forever.

I agree. The elusive target idea is really cool all around - But the one try and done is complete bullshit. I could even understand if no saving was permitted, but to have it where if the game crashes or you just make a screw up and it's over is just really lame.

I have the same problem with the first game as well. You can't replay elusive targets and it's like the content is just completely wasted.

Knowing this I have less incentive to even try hitman 2. Though I'm sure there are ways to hack the game to allow retrying elusive kills. Still a really dumb mechanic

This is why I don't get interested..

If they were smart they would keep it as payable DLC after the 14 days or even worse for every retry.

I think it's a fair attempt at unique gameplay. Presenting players with actual stakes seems like a nice change from the trend of games becoming not only easier but requiring less and less attention to actually play them.

The current attitude reminds me of a scene from a Futurama episode where Fry is lying on a couch reading a magazine while repeatedly hitting one button on a controller and successfully navigating a game on the TV he's not even watching.

I agree - But there are still ways this could be done better. For instance, offer the current 'one try and done' concept for the purposes of the global leaderboards. The score you get on the first completion attempt within the allotted 14 days for instance gives you a massive bonus. This way, folks that care about this sort of thing have a reason to care, and folks like myself who don't give a shit but just want to play the mission can still enjoy the content without feeling rushed.

was on my shopping list due to the sean bean inclusion but i am not going to buy now as i am still playing playing rdr2 and spiderman atm.

They could have it like a high profile mission that you could only try once a week. This is borderline trolling.
And what if Sean Bean survives, doesn't anybody think of the little memes?!

In light of Bean's mortality trends with film & t.v. it occurred to me that he'd be great as Conner MacCleod in the Highlander reboot, if it ever get's off the ground. Just imagine how many more kills/deaths he could add to his resume in one movie!

p.s. Not a fan of reboots but I have to admit this could be pretty awesome.

Not sure I am a fan of disappears forever, the game better be damn well glitch proof if that's the case.
Not just that, but what if I don't have time to play now, and intend to do it later?

This is such bullshit, now they don't just want to make you always online but try to invade your schedule.

Interesting that the general consensus on this thread thus far is negative.

I actually think it's a pretty neat idea. Lets the developer keep engagement up by having specific time windows for special hits and makes them more exciting to play knowing that you can't mess up (though everyone assumes the game will glitch and crash and I guess that's the problem).

While it is better now a days, I still get glitches at critical moments in most modern games, their rarer, but still annoying. If it happened on a once in a game life event....

No videogames are glitchier than they've ever been.

Some for sure.

Since most games today support patching, more glitches are intentionally left in games than ever before, often with the intent if fixing the problems post release. Even if the glitches are eventually fixed it doesn't change the fact that they were there and not everyone will play the game patched.
