4k -> 2k scaling problems

I have a 3840x2160 monitor, and when I set my games to full screen 1920x1080, it appears to lose a medium amount of contrast. Why?

That should scale perfectly. There should be no degradation in the image quality, except for a loss of sharpness.

The only difference should be just resolution and not colors.
Maybe check if nvidia control panel remembers "rgb full" for 1080p? Switch to 1080p on desktop and check in control panel. Same with monitor settings.
btw - how is that monitor? I was looking to get it

I've seen three, and they all have moderate vertical color temperature shift. It's pretty annoying at first, and it will always bug me a little. Top is warm, bottom is cool.
Other than that, it's pretty good. Overall, text is usually nicer to read than it was on my PDC monitor (which I got precisely because of its text clarity.) The anti-glare is apparently a light coating. I'd have much preferred that they use an anti-reflective coating. Although the glare with this monitor is diffused, it's stronger than the glare I had with my PDC monitor! (27QW) That said, the glare isn't a big deal.

HDR mode seems to be useless, or it's not working right when I try it.

Compared to my 27QW:
Moderately better contrast. Tiny bezel. Obviously better input delay. Less blur.
Much better backlight control, but as I said - poor vertical shift, which is more annoying. Higher minimum cd/m2.

I'm happy I switched to this monitor. Yesterday, I ordered two more (the 650 model, actually; same panel, better stand (I'm using VESA anyway)). Note that the 600 monitor will not properly accept VESA mount, because the stem for the stand cannot be removed. The 650 should mount correctly.

I'll use my monitors for programming work, and moving things between screens with different scaling between them is a bug-filled experience. That's why I got two more of this monitor: my 1080s are unscaled, but my 4k (center monitor) is scaled at 50%. The 1080s will be replaced.
