I live in Sweden which is a high income country, so most people can afford 2080Ti.

We have in stock mainly Palit cards which aren't bad but they are no Asus/MSI/EVGA.

There are no other cards in stock and these are not selling very well.
The price isn't jacked up. It's about $1300 for the cheapest one (computer parts in Sweden are pretty much always more expensive than in the US).

The cheapest one has been in stock for about a week now and have only sold 10.
Maybe people are holding off for Strix equivalent cards, but the price for those are already out and they are around $1550 which is quite a bit higher.

Or maybe the 2080ti is one of the worst values the enthusiast GPU market has seen since.... ever?

Yeah but the cost of materials is much higher, plus DLSS and RTX features are soon to make it worth much, much more!

Obviously but even with that in mind the 2080ti is especially bad. If it had released in the same price slot as the 1080ti is replaced then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Instead they damn near doubled it.

The BOM cost is too high to try and sell at the 1080Ti price level. That was never going to happen.

With that said I'm going to bail from the thread. This has been beat to death.

Really doubt it. The problem is that RTX games aren't even launched yet and most of them that will be released don't actually do Ray Tracing, they only do DLSS which is just a fancy type of anti-aliasing off-loaded specifically to the video card.

The value of the RTX series can only go down. I'm going to wait for the 30 series. The hardware crashing, bsod, ctd, stuck frequency and all that on a video card is terrible. If you read the hard forum poll, about 30% of users have issues with their 20 series card. That's a huge chunk.

For that much money, why buy buggy hardware unless you are gaming at 4k?

NVidia are putting people I know off PC gaming.
Nobody has bought or intends to get one of this gen cards.
I would have bought this gen if the price wasnt fkd, I have a buyer for my 1080ti.
Poor him unfortunately.
Lucky my new TV does 1440p 120Hz and looks great! So I can last for some time yet.

I dodged a bullet by not wanting to be ripped off.
Glorious show NVidia.

Remember back in the good old days when high end GPUs were under $500? Good times, good times.

Nvidia needs to realize, a shit ton of their target audience (gamers) for their gaming series cards are kids.... who I would imagine do not have $1000+ to blow on a gpu.

If it wasn't for the fact that a lot of machine learning libraries use CUDA for GPU compute, I wouldn't purchase another nvidia gpu for gaming until they come back with reasonable prices.

Why would it cost the same as a 1080Ti if it has Titan level performance?

Go buy an AMD card.
Most people play at 1080p anyway so, there are TONS of choices for cards that cater to 1080p. No one is forcing you to buy the top end. The fastest, the newest are always the most expensive.

I think you need to read my post again.

Missed the sarcasm :)

12 to 1500 usd for a ot een professional level card is retarded. I'm glad these are blowing up because they are a RIP off.

Same, I am a Titan buyer. I have bought every Titan except the V and now the RTX. I will never buy the 2080ti, they didn't have to price it the way they did and even through it may cost more they still did not need to. Hardware doesn't work like that, we don't get new features and better performance for twice the price. It's always either the same or less. That's the efficiencies we have come to expect.

The features and performance are not enough to justify the cost period. It's stupid and I will stop using any high end GPU's if this is how it's going to be.

Don’t like it? Don’t buy it. Titans were never cost effective solutions either, yet you didn’t see this outcry over them...

Doesn't matter if you buy it or not, the Titan's affect the pricing of the entire lineup and screws over everyone including the budget-minded gamers. You used to be able to buy a top-end gaming GPU for $500 (GTX 580), now it costs $2,500 (RTX Titan). Doesn't matter if they call it a Titan now or paint it with gold colored turds, it's still the best gaming GPU that uses GeForce drivers and functions exactly the same as it's GeForce equivalents.

To put it bluntly, this is (roughly) how GPU's have transformed from 2010 to 2018:

GTX 580 ($500) -> RTX Titan ($2,500)
GTX 570 ($350) -> RTX 2080 Ti ($1,200)
GTX 560Ti ($250) - > RTX 2080 ($800)
GTX 560 ($200) - > RTX 2070 ($600)

I would buy one for around 1000 euros. At 1200-1500 euros, no way. I think they were banking on mining keeping the prices of all GPUs high but now that has died to a degree, they just have overpriced cards on the market that are also unreliable and aside from the 2080 Ti, not much faster than the previous generation.

Since I have only integrated GPU at the moment, at this rate I will just buy a used 1080 Ti since raytracing seems to be barely decently playable for the 20xx generation.

You forgot the gtx 590. Move them all down one slot. And, dont forget to adjust for inflation.

The GTX 590 was a dual GPU card, so doesn't really count. But I let you have it anyway. Let's see:

GTX590 debuted @ $700 in 2011 inflation adjusted price would be $850 now (if I'm being very generous). So we're still 3 times overpriced today. Yeah, so the moral is: You should've done the math before using that as an argument :D

The most expensive part the entire GPU is the die which is maybe $70-80, but even that's probably a massive over-estimation since these are actually cut-down/defective dies. The truth with electronics is the marginal cost of production is quite low due to economies of scale. Mostly what you are paying for is to amortize the billions of dollars spent on R&D for RTX.

The problem is, Titans never replaced anything but other Titans.

You didn't see them replacing a 980 SKU with a Titan SKU. They stepped up to 1080.

Now don't get me wrong. The tech demos for RTX and the like are nice and all. But they're just that. Tech demos, meant to provide the tech for game developers NOW.
So that future classes of more performant cards will be able to take advantage without the currently unacceptable performance hit.

It’s probably time for you to buy amd imo. Great bang for buck.
Not an option for me. This is what matters. I'm waiting for someone to do a benchmark for RTX cards so I can see if it's worth the upgrade or not.

NV concentrates on professional markets more than gaming.
If they were focused on gaming performance in games would be much much higher, maybe even twice as fast. Shit tons of transistors go for things are completely useless for games, some completely disabled or slowed down for gaming cards, some increase GPGPU performance where most shaders used in games are rather simple and much simpler shader core designs would suffice and give better performance if they just increased core count. RT and AI cores are also mainly targeted at professional markets. There is high demand for speeding up these kind of calculations.

Prices are result of poor competition.
AMD GPU's have performance/TDP thatt is on level of GM200 from 2015 that was produced in 28nm vs 16nm of Vega. Hell, NV could make faster card with this chip, especially with faster memory available since 2015 and it would be cheaper to produce even with 12GB than Vega with its HBM2.

maybe I need to move to Sweden. How much do janitors or Handy Person make? Can they afford a 2080Ti?

Why the fuck do you quote only one meaning?
The whole point of that meaning was to go along with the topic title, you moron.

I heard about a janitor about 15 years ago, who bought a ferrari. But that might have been in Switzerland, but close enough in terms of income. The only place in EU that has higher income than Norway is Luxembourg last I checked.

Nvidia has unheard of high margins. They could easily sell these 2080ti for $999 US and margin would probably be 40% instead of 65%

See link for history of gross profit margin Nvidia (It is impressively trending higher every year)
https://ycharts.com/companies/NVDA/gross_profit_margin

Avg gross profit margin technology sector= 48%
Apple gross profit margin = 38%
Nvidia gross profit margin= 60% (Killing it)

30!? I smell a massive lawsuit if that is the case. Its simply unacceptable.

The 2080ti is just massively over priced for the performance it offers but also Nvidia is not making a ton of these gpu's either. Majority of the market wont spend more then 500 bucks on a video card and around the 200 range is the biggest chunk of the market.

Nvidia CEO laments low Turing sales, says last quarter was a ‘punch in the gut’

In a moment of candid reflection, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told investors on Monday that the fourth quarter "was a real punch in the gut" due to lower than expected GPU sales, including certain high-end graphics cards based on Nvidia's new Turing architecture...

Well first gen ray tracing tech, and nobody wants to be a beta tester for something that has little to no content for way more money. Not to mention the card really is not that much faster than a 1080ti. We need Amd to step up to the plate and swing for the fences to put some some pressure on nvidia so they might lower prices.

Well the turing GPU's were a punch in the PC communities "gut".

Honestly I'm surprised Jensen was surprised at the low sales.

It's been beyond obviously a fucking terrible launch, quite likely the worst in nvidia's history.
