We have referred, more than once, to the "Frag Harder Disco Lights" being a bit much on many of today's motherboards. ASUS is putting forth a newer more demur and elegant approach with its new ROG Maximus XI Formula Z390 motherboard. Gone is the garish approach utilized so often, and we get more of a Tron-esque feel. It however is a fingerprint magnet.

Pic and video.

This new Formula has a 2" LiveDash OLED display, that can display, CPU clocks, temperatures, and even custom logos. All this comes at a hefty price however.

During the power-on, self-test (POST) phase, LiveDash shows key progress stats in simple language and via traditional POST codes. Then, during normal operation, the panel shows a choice of CPU frequency, device temperatures, fan speeds or information from the Water Cooling Zone. You're even able to customize the default LiveDash GIF, so that it'll display your own image or animation.

I actually hope they replicate this into mATX mobos. That’s pretty dope.

Nice, just hope Asus have a better handle on their RGB software than Gigabyte have, cuz their RGB fusion don't do well at all ( though the Extreme are my first MOBO with RGB lighting )
That OLED display, i would prefer to have that integrated with the "front" IO panel.

Does is still use Aura?

Aura is a little thing we like to call: Complete and utter shit.

RGB Fusion wouldn't be so bad if the lighting controls didn't require 3 layers of shit buggy Gigabyte bloatware to really use. Atleast with the Aurous 9 the lighting controls within the BIOS is marginal at best. At least you can disable the lights in the BIOS pretty easily...

I've been hunting for a decent little display, like a double din type unit that displays all the vitals.

Most of the fan controller screens look like they were repurposed TIGERR handheld screens from the 80's...

We all know RGB is what drives performance

I suppose there is a way to turn off all the rgb stuff in the bios?

This would make an amazing foundation for a gorgeous system.... *clicks link, looks at price*

Nope.gif

You mean people no longer like the FLASH FLASH FLASH on the motherboard... I am always the last to know....

This is just a 1151 version of the ROG Rampage VI Extreme (design & RGB wise). However, the problem with this motherboard is that it still uses the same "mediocre" VRMs as the cheaper Hero. I.e. When pushed through 9900K they run hot but with the formula you have the option to cool them down by water. However, you are paying for lights and the block - you are not getting any top end PCB + VRMs with these and it is not exactly cheap to begin with. I was considering this but I am not going to pay for show.

The only motherboards on the Z390 series with somewhat better VRMs are the Extreme/Gene/Apex and those are worse than the Gigabyte Extreme or even the Master which is also half price.

With that said, the Asus series seem to overclock better in average than the competitors due to the superior UEFI and memory compatibility.

I am so torn between the Asus Maximus XI Extreme and Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme for this reason. As a package and hardware quality the Gigabyte is far better with great extras. However, the Asus seems to overclock better......

Holy wow! We're in HEDT territory here. $450 for a mainstream board, no way. Its a sweet looking board, but dang that price.

Well it is sweet looking but for the price you can do a lot better hardware wise. BTW the Gigabyte Aorus Extreme is even more expensive, it this one you pay for the waterblock.

I'm partial to Asus these days, not that I won't buy other boards. I prefer their bios. Used to love Gigabyte with the UD3/4/5 series but don't hear good things these days.

I have never had an RGB MB until i got my threadripper early this year.

The glowing pulsating lights can be.. interesting at times in the dark. but im not sure i would ever purposefully buy RGB stuff

I can't wait to get one of these. I mean, my case doesn't have any windows, but I'd know it's there.

!00% BS ! They better fix their Bios' and put manpower and dev-power into that.

Where are we heading to ? LCD and LED but no proper product itself ?

This turns me off

Ehh...don't fall for the looks of it. Get the Maximus XI Extreme or Gene or Apex or Gigabyte Aorus Extreme instead....much better VRMs.
