Nintendo of Russia boss Yasha Haddaji might be in hot water after he lost his cool during an official Mario Kart 8 livestream. The poorly run event was being livestreamed when Yasha Haddaji enters the stage area to complain that it isn't being streamed to a particular Nintendo page. He starts calling employees derogatory names. Then he cursed some of them out and fired a few of the employees on the spot. When he finds out the stream is live, he continues to berate employees while the hosts play Mario Kart 8. Nintendo fans in Russia have launched a petition to have him fired.

The video's introduction states it has been made public now to demonstrate Yasha Haddaji's character and illustrate how Nintendo of Russia's management is a "shambles". An associated Change.org petition, "Save Nintendo Russia from its CEO", is nearing 1000 signatures at the time of writing. It calls for Nintendo of Europe to step in and replace Haddaji. We've asked Nintendo for comment.

Huh..... A large live event where multiple people dropped the ball and did not do their jobs. Sounds to me like they deserved the ass reaming and to be fired.

Oh, but it was wrong because it was streamed live for the country to see...... Heaven forbid people actually see what really goes on when people fuck up in the workplace. Heaven forbid we are so fucking sensitive that this bothers people.

It was also livestreamed to Nintendo fans which comprise of a lot of children. I thought it was hilarious also, but would I want my child hearing a man call someone those names? Probably not. :) Is it going to increase Nintendo sales in Russia? Not likely. So I think he should have listened to the employees that told him multiple times that it was live.

Just my opinion of course. Everyone has one. :)

Is that video referencing a livestream that happened back in 2017 (What looks to be a date in the lower right corner)?? Old news hyped to get a clown fired?

Sorry but you are dead wrong this isn't about people being PC. That was totally un-professional. Anyone who has ever been a boss knows you don't talk to your subordinates like that. This is especially true when you are in front of other employees/people. If he needs to say something negative like that because he feels it needs to be said, you take the employee aside and give it to them. This guy is obviously a DB and doesn't have a clue how to lead.

I worked with people like that for years.

Douchebaggery isn't only American, it seems. :(

Wow. I can see cursing and all on a livestream for an FPS, but I'd be pissed if my young relatives were watching.

We don't allow kids around when we're gaming, they might look up what we said, lol.

I thought Russian children were battle harden to the wonderful world of colorful metaphors!?

It's not usually the Men that will BitchSlap you into next week for talking badly in front of the kids; and I'll bet Mom's are the same all over the world, lol.

"Mommy, what's ......... mean? " Can be the last thing you hear in many languages. :)

Mr. Torvalds, I thought you took your recent training seriously???

That doesn't preclude this manager from having to act like an adult and a professional. This event, and most importantly this manager's behavior, are a clear indicator of a major cultural issue within this team.

By your attitude towards this, I can only pray that you aren't responsible for developing people into evolving into better versions of themselves.

Did you watch the video? The ceo looks like a dimwit whose entire knowledge of live video streaming consists of once hearing someone say live streaming is cool.

Had an older sister who taught me plenty of things to say to the grandparents. While other kids enjoyed the 31 flavors of Baskin Robbins, I enjoyed the 31 flavors of Grandma's Soaps......

Well duh, Russia follows closely after India for being just a generally fucked up country. You can expect anything and corruption beyond a normal persons imagination.

Every stream that I've watched has had issues.

As a manager, there's a few things you just don't do when dealing with employees. The timing of it all was way off.

Let me know if Nintendo wants to hire me. I'm free. ;)

You mean like 90% of all leaders? ;)

He's a company representative. I have a feeling that being a Japanese company, Nintendo won't view his "worldwide company representation" very favorably since it will have an impact on Nintendo's image, which could have a negative impact on sales.

There has never been a kid who didn't believe that he would be stricken blind before he reached twenty-one, and then they'd be sorry!

gonna put this to rest right here....

Those guys did not act in a manner expected of them while in the public eye representing Nintendo. The firings were justified.

Next?

THIS! If you have to yell at people negatively, you've already failed as a leader or manager. I'm sorry for those people who've never had a good boss or work environment, and don't know any better, and think this is just "normal." That's abusive. First, if this was such an important event, he should have been checking in on it. Not micromanaging, per say, but rather making sure everything was in order. Second, even if it was going poorly, he still represents Nintendo. This is not the image an executive should be creating. If he can't remain professional, then he shouldn't remain. Last, Nintendo is family and fun oriented. They aren't targeting people who want gratuitous vulgarity and violence, but rather mostly kids (and the kids at heart!), and this hurts their image. Maybe the hosts should be fired, but if it's really going that badly, why not just end the stream for "technical difficulties in a professional manner, and then fire them? If you can't manage your emotions, how can you manage a company well?

I was about to share a cute little anecdote that's still in my clipboard but this video is not worth it. Why did I click that link

Show me evidence that the word "fuck", "shit", "jaywalker" and any other word deemed "cursing" actually adversely impacts development of youth. You think those words aren't uttered every day on the playground? Don't kid yourself. You can't shield your children from those words. You might as well give them a head start and educate them on the reality of business and how those words are actually used in the vernacular. Time and time again, shielding them from that info changes nothing.

Want to know when I started hearing words like "fuck" from school kids? Grade two.

Get with reality. It serves no positive purpose to shield them.

Well my dad used to cuss me out everyday. My grandfather cursed his sneezes. My dad thought the drill sergeants in the Army were funny when they got in his face an cussed because they had NOTHING on his dad. He said that he would double over with laughter at his buddies when they got cussed out because they looked like they were going to cry. Kids in my generation got beat with extension cords, sticks, tree limbs, razor straps, boards, paddles, belts, etc. I know a guy that his parents tied him to a tree branch and genuinely horsewhipped him until blood ran out of his back.

I don't have issues with that. When someone starts cussing around me I think it is cute because they have NOTHING on my dad and grandfather. I'm completely immune to it until I get tired of hearing your voice. Then I can dish 100X more back in return without batting an eyelash. It is what it is. I still love you afterwards though. :) No hard feelings.

But I'm not sure if that is viable material for a Nintendo livestream? Is that wholesome material for children? Would you intentionally purchase a product where the show featured people getting cussed out on a livestream that your child was watching? What if your child had a mental disability, was bullied at school to the point of contemplating suicide and then tuned into the Nintendo livestream featuring Yasha Haddaji calling employees retarded on air. I bet those parents RUSHED to the store to buy a Nintendo Switch and a copy of Zelda!

It is what it is. /shrug

We all grow up in different environments and raise kids differently is what it boils down to. Some people feel things like this are inappropriate and others see it as normal "real life" behavior. In the end, it is what you make of it. Is either way right? A life long debate..... I grew up a strict mormon. Needless to say, fuck is my favorite word even in front of kids at times. Get over it pussy britches! (not directed at you Cagey).

I do not believe in beating kids, but I am thinking that maybe there is a bit more need for it these days with a couple "potty words" thrown in :)

I would argue that it depends on context. For example, what if I said "I fucking love this Mario Kart level, it's so fun!" as opposed to "You're fucking trashy shit at your job, you're fired! Get the fuck out of here!", two completely different meanings and contexts, and yet similar language.

Any word can be used for constructive or destructive means, whether it's words that are considered "cussing" today, or in the past. For example, did you realise that "Jay" in "Jaywalking" was originally designed to be an insult? At the time Jay was an offensive word to use.

Well this guy was cussing the employees out and firing them on a livestream. :) Nintendo won't even let a video stay on YouTube without their approval.

Well, in this case the words are irrelevant, the emotion and intent are embarrassing to the company, whether "fuck" is or is not used (or others). So, they do deserve the bad pr, but more for how it was handled, and not the precise words they used (in this case).

Stress, Abuse, Harassment: Nintendo Russia’s Ex-employees Speak up about Their Time at the Company
https://kanobu.ru/articles/stress-a...ak-up-about-their-time-at-the-company-372886/

“As for myself, he grabbed me by the badge on my neck and yanked toward himself, right in front of the main stage. Called me an idiot, and said he won’t pay me anything.”

“Everything that former employees say in their interviews is true. I get the anonymity thing—we are all deeply afraid, even after all the years. And to those ex-employees who say that the sexual harassment thing is made up, I can say only this: “Be glad that you think so, be glad that you weren’t the ones touched by it.””

“It’s hard to speak about some positive qualities, there’s always a “but” involved. When he does show some, there’s a ray of hope that things aren’t that bad, that you can deal and keep working for the company. This is the flame that keeps you going for a while, but then everything goes to shit with another current of negativity. I first thought about leaving 3 months after starting in the company, but in actuality I worked there for 9 months”.

“But in the office he did everything to make you feel like a nobody, feel like you were responsible for every other person’s failures. When something went sideways, he very skillfully made you feel like it was your actions that led to this result. I have no idea what to call it, it was some next-level psychological manipulation. “After a conversation with him I'd check the facts of the matter and realize that I did nothing wrong… and the result was actually OK, and not the failure I was blamed for. But it was too late – when he had stood beside me, yelling at me in a mixture of three languages, I had been convinced that he was right and I was a piece of shit. And now he won’t listen to me. The ship has sailed.

“I also heard that he calls up the companies looking to hire people who have been fired by him. I hope it doesn’t happen every single time. I know he did tell my employer some bad stuff about me—I was told so.”

Update 1 (17.11 at 15:15 Moscow time): Nintendo Europe commented on this issue to Nintendo Life, saying there's an internal investigation ongoing.

“We are aware of a video uploaded to YouTube recently in which Nintendo Russia’s General Manager, Yasha Haddaji, is seen losing his temper during an altercation with an external vendor in charge of a Mario Kart livestream. Mr Haddaji’s conduct and choice of words are most certainly not in line with our company values. "We are also aware of further allegations that have appeared in the wake of this video and are now running a thorough investigation. We take these matters extremely seriously and will not comment further while we are running our investigation."
