Wish I'd known you were in the market, could have pointed you in the right direction. Because I don't see you getting 384x288 (actual thermal resolution, not some doubled CMOS bullshit marketing) VOx sensor for 800-1k USD anywhere else ;)
Currently developing a product that uses 1024x768 Gen2 aSi microbolometers @ 120Hz with custom optics... so know a thing or two about them lol.

Will be very interesting to see what you find.

Fine print: Cool card using water block only. Fans only excite small sparks and flames.
 
Wow, you would think that at the new highest of high price points, QC would be top notch or at least better than before but ...

Now that 2080ti cards are actually available here and there, I look at my rig and get that upgrade itch ... then I think about the teething issues that people are posting and muster up enough willpower to put my wallet away and click away from the buy it now / add to cart.

Since it's a FE card, I hope Nvidia takes care of this pronto!
 
So I got my thermal camera in today to see if I can get this card fired back up and see if the RAM is getting that hot. Not counting on it though. Used live chat to initiate the RMA. They did not give me an RMA, just asked about issues, and told me I would be contacted by RMA department.
 
It just works, it just works, it just... crashes, overheats the memory, locks at 1350 mhz, bsods, ctds, screen artifacts and all that good stuff.

What the hell? A $1200 video card does not get excuses. This is a hell of a problematic launch for Nvidia.

Looks like they launched a 'Beta' product.

I'm waiting for 30 series, so I can skip the early adopter pains of the 20 series! LOL. Oh and maybe Ray Tracing will actually be working in games by 2020 or whenever it is 30 series comes out. :p

I submitted an RMA (withing 30 days). It took them a bit to respond, but when they did it was fairly straightforward and has a 30 day return period, which is pretty generous. I'm debating whether to keep the FE or grab an EVGA in light of the issues.

I'd go EVGA due to the somewhat better RMA process and with the 3 slot cooler design in particular you'll be able to push it harder.

I only get the FE myself because it was the only one available, but I really wanted the XC ultra.
 
I've stuck with EVGA for the past major upgrade parts I've purchased. They have been good to me and have a very good RMA policy. I personally would go with a n EVGA over a direct nvidia part.

Yeah I like EVGA in general, but I'll have to go thru an RMA (the "bad one" that I'm looking to avoid down the road) and also source a new card.

Sourcing a new card still isn't trivial. I'd likely avoid the Ultra b/c I'm doing the SFF thing.. and there's this whole A revision ASIC binning business that I'm unclear about. Aside from the FTW3, I'm unclear which EVGA cards use the binned part.
 
Doing the usual internet rounds this morning and I was wondering about another AIB I had been considering: MSI RTX 2080TI Gaming X Trio.

This was an alternate choice for me in comparing to the Strix. Was really curious because most reviews of the 2080TI's mention the BIOS power limitations being a major factor in OC'ing. This MSI is unique in that it has 3 power connectors, 2x8pin and 1x6pin, and a custom BIOS to increase power usage from MSI. Well, looking on Amazon and BB and there's failures reported there too. Granted, not fully verified but they're there.
 
The custom designs vary in what they are capped at in terms total Watts. The reference designs are all 130% with the available BIOS. There was a thread on Reddit a few weeks ago on /r/Nvidia when people talked about things on there besides cards dying with the overall caps.
 
My Gainward RTX 2080Ti is currently undergoing RMA at the manufacturer. However with all those RTX 2070/2080/2080Ti dying all around I don't feel at ease potentially getting another card with error.
So today I saw a weekend deal so I have instead bought 2x Gigabyte GTX 1080Ti Gaming OC, so Iamn going GTX 1080Ti SLI again ! (I intitially sold my GTX 1080Ti SLi to get a RTX 2080Ti). When my RTX 2080Ti gets back i'll return it and get a refund. I only worked for 4 days. I am NOT getting 1st gen RTX cards again.
 
I wouldn't be so quick to give up. I had to RMA a 2080 Ti, but the new one came from a different batch (0324 rather than 0323) and it's been solid so far for about 2 weeks.

When it's an AIB card returned to the retailer, I will have no clue what "batch" I'll get in return. It might as well as be a new one from the bad batch. Also the Ray Tracing performance is really bad, much more so than I had initially anticipated. 50FPS at 1080 at Ultra in BF5 on a $1200 card is a rip off.
With GTX 1080Ti I know what I get, so I can't wait to get two of them back in my rig.

My wife's 2nd RMA on a RTX 2080 has also been returned and refunded. She bought 2x GTX 1070Ti for the price of the refunded RTX 2080.

The whole RTX release for me is a no go. Maybe with the 2nd generation we'll try them again if they also have proper ray tracing performance.
 
They are trying to figure out why Nvidia stock is tanking while it was like 260.00 a share all year.

Cryptocurrency crash caused NV and AMD to have a glut of old cards to sell. Lack of GPU mining going forward to reduce sales revenue compared to earlier. Pretty simple.

AMD didn't, they learnt their lessons from the first Crypto boom with the 290 cards.
 
Maybe NV secretly wants to bring back the old OC FU edition labeling from BFG days...that was a classic.
 
Revenue was down for both companies because of the mining crash. Nvidia was just hit harder.

Sure revenue was down, but, that's not what I was replying to. AMD didn't have glut of old cards to sell after the mining bubble burst.
 
Not to speak for Kyle, but I believe that is exactly his stated intent. I have to wonder if we have finally moved through the 'bad batch' of cards.
I'm on the fence about that. My first 2 2080Ti Black Edition cards are/were crap. 3rd card arriving on Friday. While I never got to play space invaders the first card was massively unstable and second has nearly constant graphical glitches.. let you know about the third.
 
Advil and DrBorg suggest that higher mem clock rates may be causing 80 ti trouble. What makes me tend to agree is that at +1000, with my stock fans running at 100% and open case, my Micron-equipped Asus Strix 011G card would do benchmarks, but wouldn't pass stress tests, and temps were into the 70's after 2-3 minutes. By lowering the clock to +800, stress tests are OK, and temps never pass 65 deg, Maybe running these chips too hard is why they are failing, never mind what Micron or Nvidia sez. Or the card designs aren't cooling all of them properly. Either way, I'm capping at +800. My core clock brickwalls at about 1780-90, but the memory behavior seems almost unrelated.

Wow that sucks. At this point nvidia should send you a stipend for doing QA on their cards.

The clock rates bounce all over the place. I would have to look at the logs in Excel to make more organized sense of them. When I was using Precision X1 (which doesn't really seem to do anything, no matter what I set it to) I watched the clock speeds jump up and down 100-300Mhz constantly. My earlier cards (first two) had noticeable speed ramps on the fans under load, this one, I never even hear the fans kick in.

At this point I'm just enjoying the card while I can. When it works, it makes my 1080Ti look like Clown Shoes. When it doesn't, Integrated Graphics give it a run for it's money...
 
Ordered a 2080ti FE on the 9th of January 2019 and it also failed after a short gaming stent. I've initiated the RMA process...
 
My Gainward 2080Ti failed today in weird fashion after 2 weeks of use - on my Threadripper 2950x system it was failing with TDR errors left and right, none of the games started. Replaced with my old GTX 1080, system worked fine, including games. Moved the 2080Ti to a test system (i5-8400, Z370 board), unigine heaven benchrmark in fullscreen mode was going between a benchmark screen and black screen, in windowed mode the benchmark was freezing and then working, clocks were all over the place, all from 350MHz to 2010MHz according to MSI Afterburner.
Because it was day 14 of 14 day return window, i returned it for full refund. Now i am not sure i want to risk buying a 2080Ti again (in short term at least).

That's what a warranty is for. If you need/want the performance you should buy another.
