Students at Brooklyn's Secondary School for Journalism staged a walkout in protest of the adoption of Facebook sponsored educational tools. Summit Learning is a web-based curriculum designed by Facebook engineers and is financially backed by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan. Students complained that they felt as if they were learning on their own as the teachers assigned to the program didn't know the answers to their questions.

Students only have access to their teachers during weekly 10 to 15 minute, one-on-one mentoring sessions and spend most of their day studying on laptops. Ninth and tenth grade teachers are being trained using Summit Learning and it has been adopted by other schools in the state. Parents have concerns about data privacy after the recent Facebook data breaches.

But senior Kelly Hernandez, 17, who organized the walkout, said her Environmental Science teacher wasn't trained, leaving kids adrift. "It was bad enough that we were lost, the teachers were lost," Kelly said. "We have done absolutely nothing in that class." David Bloomfield, a Brooklyn College and CUNY Grad Center education professor, said the online system "fits the Facebook business model," but came into city schools with little input or review. "It's educational experimentation on our kids," he said.

Once you see it, you can't unsee it!

The mustache on her head?

Kids can re-take tests until they pass — and look up the answers, he added: “Students can easily cheat on quizzes since they can just copy and paste the question into Google.”

I did that when I was in school. I've been out for 12 years, it's nothing new.

Except the re-taking tests. That's new. hand holding is the reason we have snowflakes.

So the whole world have not gone insane,,,,,,, quite yet.
Thats very comforting to hear, but i am not adjusting my outlook for the future yet.

It's become a rarity to find an educational institution that is not a leftist shitshow. That statement includes K-3.

The latest in indoctrination is coming into schools as the "Mindfulness" movement, the ultimate goal of which is for people to stand up and publicly confess, North Korea style, their unearned "privilege" in front of their fellow comrades.

and this right here is a reason why lots of new things in schools fail.. if your not training the teachers.. ahead of time.. to use new said product or procedure, then your setting it up for fail.

I was vividly exposed to this at a young age. Middle school computer science class.. the "teacher" had taken a summer class on computers. the class was using TRS-80's.. yes.. trash -80's LOL that long ago. anyways.. the teacher didnt know shit. Me and one other kid did know computers. after about the 2nd week it became apparent to everyone in the class.. the teacher didnt know anything.. and everyone came to me and, now lab partner, for help on anything. All the teacher did was to pass out the assignments.. then proceed to read a book for the rest of the week, while me and lab buddy did all the real teaching.

im not knocking the teacher, she did try, but was really out of her league on this subject, with little to no support from the school district itself.

Soon as I saw this, I knew it was going to fail.

Since when are "Facebook engineers" experts with practical, or even theoretical knowledge, about education & child/teen psychology?

Answer: they aren't.

'Nuff said.

The teacher of our "computer science" class was a math teacher. He didnt know jack shit about programming. I could have hard coded everything in the assignment and he wouldnt have known the difference. He didnt teach either so after a week (in which I did half the course) I just told him I was moving onto C++ instead of Basic because Basic was a waste of time.

To make matters even better the "network" techs our school hired were so inept I had full control of everything in the entire school district. Admittedly it wasnt a lot back then but I did pull some fun pranks. I didnt even get in trouble for it because back then schools werent nazis about things. All I got was asked to help fix the network and make the computer classes better. Oh and a talking to from the Super Intendant about while I was smart it was also not smart to break into other peoples property....but at least he did admit that they didnt do a very good job of securing it. He blamed it all on the school for not teaching me boundaries etc.

Looks like Facebook is muscling its way into our schools and silently morphing the educational system into iSchool.

Students need classes integrated with human teachers, not with facebook's inhuman AI.
