Ubisoft to Censor Rainbow Six Siege to Appeal to Asian Territories

Define "hard". What's easy about supporting a 100 different versions of the same thing? Ever tried it yourself?

".....maintaining two parallel builds."
And yes while they are trying to streamline their product.
I wouldn't mind paying a little bit more $$$ for non-sensitize materiel.

Only two are needed. Freedom version and "Freedom" version.

I think I am being trolled in a way that's not quite fitting. What are you two talking about?

Skeletons, skulls, and the like are really bad juju in China.

I had a "Split Second" drag race T-shirt I wore to work once, and it featured a skeleton bursting out of the chest; It really looked cool.

It's long since worn out, lol.

It scared one of my co-workers so badly that he went home...

"Asia" is pretty damn big and it not some homogeneous culture. I doubt this was to appease Japan.

They're aiming at the lowest common denominator here. Probably China and South Korea for the "adult" themes. Singapore for gambling. The skulls and stuff, dunno.

All the changes target china. Do a web search for Chinese censorship laws.

Forgot about that, thanks for the reminder.

This, either have all regions on releases and have the player enter his country at the installer, or since we're in the age of downloadable updates, have the game auto detect region and download whatever to make those countries happy.

Meh, shouldn't be too hard to have region specific skins, everyone can have their version of cake, right?

One problem...

I was listening to discussion about Dead Pool 2 PG release coming... and they were talking about a law China has (or will have) where movie releases will have to be the same. There can't be a "china" only version.

I assume the same could be for games...

No.

China does not have a movie ratings system, all films shown in China are supposed to be suitable for everybody. Perhaps that is what they were talking about?
What ends up happening is that films get banned for silly reasons...like having Winnie the Pooh in them....but chopping people to bits and other violence is A-OK for the kiddies.

Every film touched by the censors in China is China-only because they are the folks who decide what is banned or removed. They'll never make all the reasons content is banned/removed/censored public so it would be quite impossible for anyone to cater to their rules proactively.

EDIT for clarity. China does not do the actual censoring. They make 'suggestions' and the content owner or distributor can either comply and censor it themselves then resubmit it for Chinese approval or not. It's worth making it clear IMO.

Knives, blood, sex, probably Japan (even if the some subcultures like some of those things, gov censors some or all of those), although they probably aren't the only ones who censor such things.
