Ubisoft has announced the creation of a global Rainbow Six Siege game that will fit meet regulations and compliance in certain Asian territories. This is being done to streamline the development process. Supposedly everything that will be censored is purely cosmetic. Some items that will be censored include all skulls as those can't be shown. The melee icon will change from a knife to a fist. References to gambling such as slot machines are taboo in other countries. Blood is being removed from the game. All sexual references are gone.

We are currently working towards preparing Rainbow Six Siege for expansion into Asian territories. As such, there will be some adjustments made to our maps and icons to ensure compliance. None of these changes will have an impact on gameplay. We have examples of these changes at the bottom of the blog. WE WILL NOT CHANGE THE CORE OF THE GAME.

what a full on load of shit, making it rated G.....maybe they could get some cash from Disney for in-game adds. JFC, its a game about killing and war.......fk that just make 2 versions, one for the panty waist and one for the rest of the world.

Blood removed from the game? I hope they don't mean actual blood when shot. If it's blood textures on walls as part of the design, sure, whatever. But blood when you shoot the opposing team? That's not going to fly.

And suddenly I’m glad I never bought this, and I’ve got one huge steam list of shame to get through.

Not in any of those countries = not affected in the slightest.

Kudos to Ubisoft for getting their games into more markets, despite those very ridiculous government regulations in those countries.

Imagine further changes coming pending release to markets:
Middle East: All female characters fully covered from head to toe. No alcohol images. No references to religions other then Islam.
South America: Everyone speaks Spanish. All religious references to be Catholic(sets up a nice conflict with the Middle East release).
Europe: Civilian women sunbathing nude(nice conflict with Asia and Middle East versions)

Hard path to follow when the various areas have conflicting requirements.

And yet Asia has some of the most fucked up porn going...

"Asia" is pretty damn big and it not some homogeneous culture. I doubt this was to appease Japan.

They're aiming at the lowest common denominator here. Probably China and South Korea for the "adult" themes. Singapore for gambling. The skulls and stuff, dunno.

Love when companies give a helping hand to countries to spread their laws and influence outside their borders.

How so? These changes to the game are only applicable to certain countries, so they can sell it INSIDE the borders of those particular countries...

I'm really going to miss blood splatter. That is a useful indicator after fast gun fights.

The rest of the the stuff is not a big deal.

I would think it to be more psychologically damaging to assume bullets do not cause blood, than to assume they do cause gore.

my interest is also gone.

How is this any worse than their banning players for "toxic" behavior? I quit playing after I had my ability to upload a custom avatar removed after my profile pic "offended" someone. Apparently the bar for being offensive is having a shopped picture of putin wearing makeup. I didn't even realize there were russian SJWs, but oh well, it's their game, they can do what they want. That said, I know what I'll do with my money.

How the hell is removing blood not going to affect gameplay? There's no CoD-style hitmarkers, so blood is literally the only way you know if a shot landed. This is the shit that will finally make me stop buying ubisoft games all together.

is it really that hard to release region specific version with those graphics?

I can think of a few ways that it could be done client side and based on region.

The snippet made it seem like at least some of these are permenant to the entire world.

you mean cater to conservative Asian politicians, which have a far larger stick up their ass when compared with others
actual people don't give a shit about this. And slots being taboo? wtf.... Asians llllovveee casinos. The lack of it is because these casino licenses are given to special friends only aka the best buds of these politicians.

I'm glad I don't play games anymore but if I did, I would be enraged from this sort of gimping. Games are way too suppressed and boring as it is.

Glad they (whatever Asian territory required these "changes") have their priorities straight.

Sex / Provocative Imagery = Bad
Killing Other Human Beings = OK

Might as well replace the guns with large 90s eras cameras while your at it.... Orientals crack me up.

It sounds to me like they're changing it for everybody.

A Single, Global Version
We want to explain why these changes are coming to the global version of the game, as opposed to branching and maintaining two parallel builds."

At first, I thought Ubisoft had lost it's mind. However, if they have to do this to conform with other countries laws, it is either do this or do not sell there.

E.T.

Well-done, sir.
Forgot about that, thanks for the reminder.

This, either have all regions on releases and have the player enter his country at the installer, or since we're in the age of downloadable updates, have the game auto detect region and download whatever to make those countries happy.

Meh, shouldn't be too hard to have region specific skins, everyone can have their version of cake, right?

Define "hard". What's easy about supporting a 100 different versions of the same thing? Ever tried it yourself?
