Great review. Glad to see the advantage popping up to 40% in some titles. Makes the price tag ever so slightly more palatable, and somewhat piques my interest.

I'm even more interested in how the new $1000 eVGA card will perform, as its price is a little more "down to earth".

Good stuff!!! Thanks for the review :)
It is mighty attractive on performance alone for KCD. That price though!

Any chance of possibly working in UW resolution in future reviews? 3840x1600 would still fit on your 4K display. I truly enjoy the 21:9 experience over the 16:9.

Thanks again for the great review!

Great review - thanks, [H]!

I've stated it numerous times in various threads: the 70ish% price hike just isn't justifiable for the average performance increase, imo.

Still think I am going to wait and see what AMD comes out with before upgrading...I keep hearing reports of 2080ti cards failing at a pretty high rate...not sure if this is just "Founders" cards or if others are affected, but will wait to see how it all shakes out.

Just scale it by megapixels. Or multiple 4k by 1.26 and that’s basically your FPS. It’s unlikely CPU constraints would be a problem at that resolution and such a small multiplier.

Would like to see this thing under water to reduce the power leakage and stabilize the clocks at a higher speed.

Great review! Still think it is overpriced, but it's good to be the (performance) king. Complling reasons to get one still are 4K gaming and maybe VR.

Hope to see [H]ard data on VR performance here eventually, maybe with the Vive Pro wireless adaptor review? :)

AMD needs to step up its game before we'll see prices move much.

Great review, and though I was going to buy one regardless, this cements my decision to spend way too much and purchase this card. I'm coming from a GTX 980Ti, and there is nothing better than to be completely blown away by such a huge jump in performance. I have a 4k display, but with my current hardware I have to play at 1440p or sometimes lower.

you will be at least.. doubling your performance.. to anyone having the money it's a no brainer buy as the performance is there to warrant that purchase.

You might be waiting for a while.

Good luck buying one of these strix cards, i've yet to see them in stock at any retailer. This and the msi trio seem virtually MIA, a few people somehow have them but not many. Whereas palit, inno3d and zotac are like flies on a big freshly laid pile of shit....plentiful

Thanks for the amazing review. Asus Strix TI's still remain my favorite. When examined from every performance angle, as you have, they continue to be at the top.

Be sure to amend the review in about a month when the card fails on ya' (y)

Sorry I am a little salty right now.

I had pre-ordered one of these from U.K. and it was going to end up costing ~$1500. Couldn't justify it and cancelled, I may reconsider once the U.S. sellers have in stock depending on their prices. Seeing those #'s for SOTR smaa x4 were impressive.

I've got 16 days left to decided whether or not I'm going to pull the trigger on using the step-up on my 1080 ti and if the EVGA 2080 ti XC can even get close to those numbers I'm going to have a hard time resisting the urge to go for it. I want to upgrade my CPU, mobo, etc but that performance difference is really tempting me to put that money towards a 2080 ti. I love how well the 1080 ti works at 4K, but the thought of not having to make any compromises......

I just don't get this generation of cards. Nvidia has been laughably full of shit with their insane overclocking claims as these cards do not oc any better than the previous gen and if anything a bit lower. Then they had the balls to charge $200 premium for their FE cooler which is looking like the worst cooler you can even have on these cards. And of course pretty much every card maker is charging the FE price anyway instead of being cheaper. And all these cards are hitting power limits thus limiting what potential they have. DLSS has been unimpressive according to sources like Hardware Unboxed as you might as well just run a res slightly under 4k. And ray tracing in any AAA game with decent graphics is going to require running at 1080p just to try and maintain 60 fps with a 2080 ti. And we are asked to pay $1200 bucks for this shit? This is the first gen of cards I have ever skipped in my 15 years of pc gaming.

The cooler on the FE cards is likely better than the stock cooler they've had for like five years now, but it is definitely still a stock cooler. There is a reason a lot of the AIB cards are 2.5 to 3 slots in size for these cards. Nvidia shot themselves in the foot with the FE cooler, as they usually do.

If you’re skeptical, which I wouldn’t blame you, see how BFV goes (or a game that interests you). We don’t know shit yet but it does seem very very quiet for being more than a month after launch.

The FE cooler is good. It's a definite improvement over the previous design and *much* quieter.

Even with 100% fan it's not annoying at all. I had a Titan X Pascal before and 100% was literally like a jet engine. Cooling is also decent once you adjust the fan curve.

I've been running a stress test on Superposition, near 100% GPU usage for 30 minutes and the bottom card is at 67C. The top card is a little hotter, at 74C, but still acceptable.

Coolers got mixed reviews from what i've seen, that jayz2cents guy was getting pretty high temps on an open air test bed. If nvidia had allowed more open areas for venting the air instead of sealing off the edges and making the opening at the top and bottom taper in so much it might have performed better. I currently have a titan x pascal and the cooler on this isn't bad, it's louder than my aio which was usually on it (rma currently) but not near as loud as i remember thinking it was.

As for temps. i find i get higher temps ingame than with benchmarks, my titan aio cooled used to top out at around 62c clocked to 2025 running heaven extreme at 4k. Yet battlefield 1 easily pegged it to around 70c depending on the map.

I too would really like to see ultrawide results 3440*1440 or 3840*2160 as I game at the former resolution.
This might be another glorious first for Hard OCP (like the GTX2070 review :) ) as I've not seen those benchmarks anywhere else.

Very amusing to find that several of the HOCP "acolytes" actually liked Kyle's reply that testing at that resolution takes too much time.
The effect of the great leader's reality distortion field is potent indeed.

Nice review, thanks.

These are not canned time demos. Brent_Justice spends an enormous amount of time playing these games over and over to get near identical runs to get us this information. If a video card is at 4K and maxed out graphics settings then lowering any of the settings will generally give you more performance. So having Brent lower the resolution one tier would probably take a lot of hours just to show a fps increase that we can just extrapolate from the already given information.

Gee wiz who would have thought?

We are going to stick to standard 16:9 resolutions for now. If we were to evaluate every ratio of resolutions we'd never get anything published. Since we test at 4K which is 8,294,400 pixels just figure out any resolution lesser than that, and the pixels, and extrapolate performance. When we test both 1440p and 4K you can figure performance between those.

Thanks, I appreciate that testing at UW resolutions may be too time consuming and that there's not much demand for it. I am capable of extrapolating performance numbers as you suggest :)
It would just be nice to see a chart at the resolution I use, where I don't have to extrapolate. First world problems I guess.

Thanks for a really great review guys!

Unfortunately, it looks to be completely impossible to find this card in stock. Some retailers hope to get it by December 2th here.

The only RTX 2080 Ti that seems to be in stock is the ZOTAC RTX 2080 Ti AMP. Might be a decent choice as well, but I will wait it out a bit more.

now I see why everyone is wanting 4k 144hz monitors (for only $2000)
so they can sit and wish for a 3080ti in 4 years to use it ROFL

Just a heads up that Zotac isn't paying for shipping in an RMA scenario, apparently.
