While Blackout still remains at 20Hz, Treyarch and Beenox have reportedly improved the multiplayer-server tickrate for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, boosting it from the previous 20Hz to 62Hz. It isn’t known when (or if) the battle royale mode will be similarly improved.

So yeah, while the Blackout servers are still not ideal, the multiplayer modes are now running as you’d expect (and similar to their open beta versions). This is definitely great news for Black Ops 4 fans, especially since Treyarch and Beenox have improved things prior to the release of Battlefield 5.

60'ish tickrate is fine, but most games still allow for high ping players to shoot you far behind cover. Which can also carry over to having an advantage when peaking with high ping.

Jesus, people will bitch about anything. The pitchforks were out about getting the servers up to 60Hz tick rate. Now yall are crying about that not being good enough.

Oh, and the days of rentable private servers are mostly over. Sad, but that's the way it is. We've been bitching to Activision to bring them back since they were nixxed in MW2. It's not going to happen.

That or allow communities to put up their own servers and set their own tickrates.
Probably will not happen, I am sure there is a monetary gain for a company to host servers instead of allowing people to host their own.

I think they just don't want to mess with it. Takes effort that developers generally aren't interested in if they're not say Blizzard, especially when their corporate conglomerate owners already have them slaving away at the next release.

At least not with the wide "accept anything that loses customer satisfaction/value/choice because zero self control" generation that gaming seems to have molded into in the last 10 years.

BF1 onwards has an upper limit to this. It stops lag compensation past 80ms or something.

I think this is almost entirely due to the progression systems. I'm enjoying BO4 quite a bit, but the other day I was thinking how great it would be to make a game like this where you just pick what you want, any time you want and you don't have to unlock things.

While I tolerate it, I think a lot of people expect it and are motivated by it. It's so embedded in the gamer psychology now that if you left it out, a lot of people would wonder what the point of playing your game was.

Progression is definitely a huge part of the motivation for a lot of gamers, especially younger ones. They play games to get that sense of accomplishment you get by getting the achievement, or getting gold on that gun. Even I, as much as it pains me to admit, strive for that. I will tell you all day long that progressions systems are dumb, just let me have all of the things, yet last night I played an extra 5 matches for get the headshots I needed for Red Tiger on the KN-57.
