Bing Is Pushing Malware When You Search for Chrome

There is a running joke many visit Bing only to download Chrome, but that concept was no laughing matter for some, as Microsoft has been listing a phishing website as the top result and inadvertently encouraging users to install malware. While the ad lists “google.com” as the destination and looks rather genuine, it actually takes users to a scam site, “googleonline2018.com.” Microsoft has now removed the ad.

Usually, you’ll end up seeing an ad for “https://www.google.com.” That goes to the real Chrome download page, and everything is fine. But, sometimes, you’ll see an ad for “google.com”. Guess what—that doesn’t actually go to Google.com. This ad was created by a scammer and goes elsewhere. Microsoft is apparently not verifying the web address the advertisement actually goes to. Bing is letting this advertisement lie people.

I got a warning from this site this morning, from my Eset AV; I re-enabled adblock until it goes away.

I love H, but ad vendors have No morals.
:(

I noticed this the other day when I was getting a machine set up remotely. It wasn't just the ad, the top "real" result went to the same place. I had to actually go to Google.com and search for chrome. Definitely not an accident, imo.

Imgur is terrible about this. They complain about people using ad blockers, but they refuse to hold their advertising partners to a reasonable standard. Like...not infecting site visitors with malware. Some sites just do not deserve being white-listed and Imgur is one of them.

I have [H] white-listed and have been fortunate that no ads on here have done anything, so far. I want to support [H] as much as possible but not at the expense of my machine becoming infected. Hopefully yours is an isolated case and already remedied.

I'm old enough to remember when Microsoft was "el diablo." Compared to todays Google's revolving door with goverment regulators that would make Goldman Sachs blush, international spying, censorship, etc...

2018 Microsoft is a benign mole next googles brain cancer.

Ad??? What's an Ad??? - - - Although all of us would love to be able to say that, the reality is that none of us will live long enuf to see that happen - - ever!

Some thing that have been seen can not be unseen..........

Bing is PUSHING Malware or someone placed an ad for malware and Bing didn't catch it proactively? There's a difference between a scammer successfully running the gauntlet and getting their scam ad placed, and Bing actively pushing malware.

Bing has been pushing all sorts of shitty sites for various search terms for the better part of a year now.

Its never had "good" search results to boot.

Yep. any search engine that routinely salts its results to point to honeypots is worthless. Do a search for a driver and see how the top sites are reputable repos like "drivers4u.ru" and such shite.

When the first 5-6 links from a BING search cause your browser to warn you, you know you've hit peak crappy search engine results :D
