That is a pretty broad stroke you just brought up. At the expense of credibility is it worth it? I don't think that is long term viability for a supposed insider. That and the enormous paywall.

Charlie is known for throwing shit at a wall and sometimes never getting anything right, but he still gets a lot of traffic.

People find it fun to either read up on their favorite, most hated company or to just read fun tidbits of rumors that may or may not be true.

Just a thought Kyle, but maybe you might want to look into the claims being made before running a story by the National Inquirer of tech news as your only source. Charlie has had the biggest hard on for ruining Intel and Nvidia for decades. He's been calling on their demise since before Semiaccurate even existed. This would be like reporting a birther story about Obama from Fox News. And then having to correct it the next day, because of course it's bullshit.
 
I'm sure there's a place for Intel's 10nm process; as was posted above, low power laptops (by comparison) are working ok.

But, Remember Prescott? That drove the last few AMD mobos I personally bought, the last one being a Barton core 2500, that clocked lower than that factory (1800?), but ran 3200MHz for Years, while the prescott processor system I sold to someone who never overclocked.

Showing a 28 core 'competitor' to a Threadripper that needs a 2000W chiller, or a mobo with two power supplies Just for the Processor is not going to ever be a good overclocker; the factory has already Cherry-picked and wound it out for you stock.

We, as enthusiasts, are NOT looking the the base speed of the processor to be the very bleeding upper edge of the processor yield distribution; we want a processor that is firmly in the middle, so we have some chance of finding one of the really really good ones.

Selling the bleeding edge is for other people, not me.


I'm the guy that doesn't buy the Shelby GT, I buy a nice base to build from, and add the Blower myself, and have a lot of cash left over.

(note: I hate Mustangs, this is an example. I AM building a 03 Eaton-based Cobra engine for my 96 Cougar, tho; having already swapped most of the suspension and brakes for upgrades, for 1/10th the price.)

[H]ard folks buy cheap and go large; Check Writer's Write Checks, and someone else does the labor. That's kinda like paying someone to f*ck the old lady, IMHO; alternatives are better and cheaper, Like her sister, lol.

Didn't Intel say that Specter and Meltdown were not a thing at first as well....

That said I find it hard to believe that Intel would just ditch 10nm completely. So perhaps the truth is somewhere in the middle. For instance what if Intel Desktop/Server CPUs will on longer be developed on 10nm, but the process will stick around for other things like modems and mobile processors or something like that.
 
7 is still lower then 10...so until Intel matches AMD's upcoming 7nm then they're still going to be behind AMD

Intel 10nm and TSMC 7nm are pretty similar in sizes and stats generally. TSMC has bit of a lead in some areas for SRAM densities etc, but Intel can't get it going well, TSMC can and that is what matters.
 
I work at Intel and I do know that we just got told the news that we weren't going to be running anything new until next year at the earliest. But I'm just a peon, they told tell us much.

"7" is lower than "10" in marketing parlance.

The 10nm node used on CannonLake chips has a density of 100.76 MTr/mm². The 7nm node used on Apple A12 has a density of about 80 MTr/mm². The 7nm node used on Zen2 has a density of only 67 MTr/mm².

So the '7nm' node will be used for Zen2 is about 50% bigger than the 10nm node is used in CannonLake chips. Icelake is expected to use a 10nm+ node with relaxed parameters compared to 10nm, to give higher performance. I guess that 10nm+ could be about 91.6 MTr/mm².

All I know is I have what I need/want for several years. Got tired of waiting for the next best thing to come along. I just upgraded ram too because I seem to wait too long and can't get (known) compatible parts (for any given system in the house) at a good price or from a reputable source. I don't like a hassles with returns and reorders.

I was (some time ago) looking forward to Intel's 10nm cpu's but now I'm only interested in seeing everybody's opinions about the current state of affairs. Love [H] for this!

I do believe them when they say it isn't dead. When it happens doesn't matter to me. My next build will be after 2021 anyway. I also have a mindset of buying for performance, so AMD or Intel, whichever suits my desires regarding personal value/performance, that's what I'll go with regardless of whatever process they are on.
