Kyle I think it’s f-ing cool and totally badass that you pulled off this review like this. Congrats.

Always good to know that the establishment doesn't like it when you do everything legitimately if it hurts them.

Anyway, I'll still prefer the TI, even with all the problems I've been having.

Rich, isn't it?

Asshole? To whom? You stated your business oh so fucking damn clear from the very beginning. You didn't join that club, why on earth would you abide by its rules?

They sided with the devil, so when he decides to poke them with the damn trident... oh well, enjoy the butthurt!

They have your email that you sent for a regular NDA. Did they send it back and say ok here is a normal NDA? No, then tough.
The 2070 looks pretty fast, but for 4K and RTX, I think it would choke. Maybe they can refine it enough for better FPS.

This email was never replied to and actually on the same chain in which they offered us the 5 year blanket NDA.

Subject: RE: HardOCP Review Request

Let me know if the terms of this NDA are negotiable please. If so I will get it over to my attorney for markup.

I find the whole idea of "respecting" other reviewers to be ludicrous. If a reviewer is not bound by NDA they should put their review out when it is done. People chose to sign the NDA. If a large amount of reviewers grew a pair and all refused to sign Nvidia's insane NDA then Nvidia would have been forced to revise it. Most of the Youtube tech folks are all buddy-buddy with each other so they, understandably, don't want to put out reviews early and fuck over their friends. However, they should not expect other reviewers to abide by that. As long the review is done well then there is nothing wrong with publishing early. If a reviewer wants to wait until the NDA is up cool, good for them, they can have a gold star if it makes them feel better. If a reviewer doesn't want to abide by arbitrary marketing requirements then, cool. By decrying early, non-NDA bound, reviews all a person is doing is defending the interests of a company, not their favorite reviewer.

What I don't get is since when did tech journalism become basically communism? All sites and channels working together, hand in hand, sharing resources for the benefit of each other? This is a business and a pretty competitive one too. Do you really think if the New York Times got the low down on a hot story that nobody else had, they'd share it with the other major papers? You think Walmart worries about "disrespecting" Target when they're able to sell products at a cheaper price? No other businesses in no other field that I know of do this and to think [H] should've sat on this in order to not hurt Linus' or Jay's feelings is just ridiculous.

Giving up your competitive advantage in business so it doesn't hurt the feelings of your competition and to ensure nobody has an edge over the other or profits more than the other, well to quote the great Buford T Justice, that's just pure and simple old fashioned communism.

Can't wait to read the other 20 reviews after nda expires that all come straight from the reviewer's guide and all sound the same.

btw I find all this hilarious. It's just a video card for playing fkn video games. In the grand scale of things, this is really unimportant. Makes others look a bit petulant (is that the right word?).

I can't wait to see how similar or different all of the popular YouTube channels data is compared to your numbers.

Not that anything should be different, if someone did get their cherry-picked review samples by sucking on nvidia's titty, and they try Focus more on titles or one-off use cases to show a higher margin of performance, we will get a good picture of who the toxic shills are.

It was interesting to watch how the review Paradigm shifted around the gpp introduction, and how the more popular reviewers either had to dance around the issue or try to play the Nvidia policy blame game or explain themselves when the new NDA hit.

If you sign an NDA that is designed around protecting the company's interests more than honest product reviews and you are mad about someone going and getting a card just like if I were to walk into Best Buy and pick something up, and compare performance to some other product, you need to go fuck yourself.

I am sticking with my 1080ti.

While I don't disagree with your outrage, I do think it's important to note that the NDA really wasn't all that harsh for REVIEW sites. If you wanted to engage in journalism related to nVidia though...

I do apologize if that sounded a little harsh but all of these people becoming butthurt over posting a review early tickled the tips of my fingers

I sure as hell don't remember anyone saying anything about how the NDA signers should have waited for those without having signed the NDA to get their cards and put out their reviews.

Fuck 'em. They didn't give a damn about people who hadn't signed an NDA then and I don't care about the NDA signers now.

Humans are selfish creatures, very few people and even less so people in power are fair about things in life and honest with themselves. Everyone is operating off of emotions. Sure it doesn't rationally make sense but its not in the least bit surprising that people want other people to voluntarily not put them at a disadvantage. And it is oh so incredibly common in scenarios like this to see people go out and try to use all sorts of tactics to stop someone else from doing something they don't want to do. But ultimately everyone on all sides of this is purely selfish. They are all acting in their own best interest. II bet if you every played video games you have seen the same behavior, you kill your opponent with weapon X, opponent calls it noskill, cowardly, cancer, or something to that effect and tries to get you to voluntarily not use the weapon or tactic.

I would bet any money that a lot of review sites owners are either having friends speak their mind for them, or doing it with alt accounts. That's because their way of life is threatened. What kyle kinda did here was open the flood gates for an arms race that is very costly. Now we might see more sites spring up and say we are just going to source computer parts ahead of time for money and beat everyone else to the punch. that is in stark contrast to getting free hardware and still getting clicks and ad revenue. They also probably feel pretty shitty cause they signed a 5 year NDA and are now stuck with it for 5 years lol, that's why I said new sites.

This all gets crazy cause you can imagine how far this goes, in fact someone might just move to china and try to do everything there that way they don't have to wait for shipping.

just to play devil's advocate I can see both sides of this...is releasing the 2070 review early meant as a middle finger to Nvidia for not having the 2080ti review up on Day 1 (due to not getting early access to the cards/not signing the NDA)

Don't waste your time. Brigaders see the now and the now only. Unfortunately, any corollary or chilling effects won't be immediately apparent but everything has a cost.

People keep saying “out of respect for other reviewers” is there like some hardware reviewer code-of-conduct that must be adhered to? Is there a council of reviewership that maintains a holy book of reviewers conduct?

Seriously it’s fkin business, when you have the upper hand you damn well play it.

From what I've been able to gather, the bitching seems to be more in relation to the YT number displayers.

LOL...People are really pissy over there. Saying Kyle broke rank with the other review sites by publishing his review early. Newsflash fools. He broke rank by not signing the NDA!

By not signing that NDA Kyle gets no free and early samples. BUT if he gets his hand on a card somehow, you're damn Skippy he can publish that review whenever he wants. That's one of the benefits of not signing the NDA!

this is what i'm more interested in as well.. i really wonder just how cherry picked the review sample cards are going to be. [H]'s review should be a good benchmark to base it off of given it's an aftermarket card that by definition should have much higher clocks then the review samples from nvidia.

Journalism has always been cutthroat, so they should all get their panties out of a bunch

The whole Tech Youtubers, its like a community. They work together and they have "you scratch my back I scratch yours" attitude. Hardware Unboxed Steve also has something to review (I dont remember what) and he is not under NDA but he chose to wait out of respect to his fellow reviewers. If he would make the review then he would get alienated fast.

Kyle is one of the old guard reviewers, it is business first and only community he has is us, this forum, and he doesn't give a shit what other people think. That said, times have changed. Kyle IS legally within his rights but I can't help but to think that he is committing a career suicide. :/ I REALLY hope I am wrong.

I was wondering what was taking the Official 2080 review to come out. Now I know, you were busy getting this review out first!

Also, I bet you all those "reviewers who didn't sign the NDA and are waiting out of respect" actually signed the NDA and don't want anyone to know.

NICE job [H]! This looks like a sweet little card.

fuck nvidia NDA
