Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

Ah- that performance by computer chart is cool! I'll have to see where my lightly overclocked Ryzen 1700 is on the chart... Is that in the client or the website?

It should go live on the website once 3.3.0 goes to the live server. We're still in PTU so just a little longer.

Hammerheads are freaking awesome, can't wait for more capital ships.

Yes, it may take years. But I'm going to come back to this thread and call out all the haters playing it in the future when it turns out to be the best game in history.

You might want to change your stance to "it might take decades" Because it is pretty certain at this point that they won't finish it within a decade. Especially considering the progress rate. Where are they, 15-20% progress?

And if it turns out the best game in history, the so called haters (I'd call them realists) will still have the last laugh, because they'll just buy the game for $60 and laugh at those who paid $6000.

In the meantime be reassured, no matter how far the fans wander from realistic expectation, I'll be here to remind them that alpha = everything that they want to implement in the game is implemented and playable.

Those haters that pay 60, wouldnt have the game if it wasnt for the people they are having the "last laugh" at. So i think they would just be laughing to themself because at that point every major backer would feel even better about thier decision to help.

A lot of silly assumptions.

A. I was obviously talking about years from now, not when the project was started. If the game comes out in 2021, it is irrelevant whether the project began in 2013 or 2003.
B. 15-20% progress is something pulled out of your ass and means nothing.
C. $6000 is another number pulled out of your ass, as that has absolutely nothing to do with backing the game early. The implication that paying $6000 was some sort of requirement is nonsense. People can choose to throw money at whatever they want in this world. You could have paid $30 during the kick-starter to get a game account. Even with inflation, that person would still have the game cheaper in 2021 than bought for retail $60.
D. There have been for years very fun aspects of the game to play such as Arena Commander and Star Marine.

Not to put you on the spot Vega, but how much have you personally sunk into this?

I still have my doubts that it will all magically come together as a functioning game that is actually playable within the next decade, but perhaps they will pull it off somehow. All the crashes and glitches on display as to their “progress” to date certainly doesn’t help build or instill any confidence at this point after being in development for this many years though.

I personally have nothing invested. I came close to tossing in a little at the very beginning, but now glad that I did not. I'm fine with whoever decided to support it, but sort of "bro pity" those that have sunk literally thousands of dollars into this chasing a dream, one that will most likely never even come close to fruition. I've only seen lots of pretty art, environments, animations and very small bits and pieces of a game, but nothing really compelling or different as to game mechanics or play that is a realization of what they have been promising all along...

If Star Citizen ever does come out and actually delivers a game that is any good, I'll happily invest in it then, but I simply don't see that happening based on the evidence and everything I've seen to date. Thus far it has been a disjoint mess, lots of empty promises, one with no clear end game in sight. They come across as rank amateurs on stage - not professional game developers. The probability that they will simply continue to mismanage themselves and this effort into an ever growing money pit that they cannot crawl out of and then finally declare that it's all over and give up seems awfully high to me still.

I spent $35 dollars way back when it first came out and that's all i'm in for. I've spent that on one day of ordering out food so it won't break me. If it comes out, i'll be able to play it. If not, not a huge deal for me. Can't tell me that people haven't spent more money on much more foolish things. :nailbiting: (Gold or jewel encrusted phone cases, or multi-thousand dollar watches, etc)

I'm in for a bit over a hundred. Cutlass and an Avenger, plus won one of the AMD racers. I have had enough fun to call it even already, compared to any of my other hobbies. Even if this turns into a game I don't enjoy (ARMA anyone?) I am glad to have helped and watched. Heck, bugsmashers has helped me at my real job!

I'm an original KS backer "Colonel" package - $120. Not very much really. I've already gotten dozens of playtime out of it with Arena Commander, Star Marine and PTU 3.0+.

Have you seen this video:

I don't know how anyone can say that is not impressive. No other game out there does 25% of what was shown in that video.

Because even if this turns out to be fantastic, (Not saying it will because i'm not even going to guess one way or another) some will be against it no matter what since the only opinion that matters is the one they give. (Gosh, Darn! It's a waste of money, even if it isn't!...lol)

The valkyrie is no slouch either, for a drop ship it packs a decent punch but you'll want to make sure to replace some of the ballistic guns with energy ones.

Hahahahaha.... Hahahhahaha.

If this makes it to being a game, and if that game ends up being any good, I'll buy it, but best game in history, never going to happen.

well, almost every game is likely someones favorite, so becoming the best game in history will always be just someones opinion. Might never happen for you but it might for someone else. SC Still has a long way to go. It already offers a unique experience just from the community interaction with each other. Which sort of reminds me of SWG, there was never much to do in the game but the community kept it fun every day. If you combine that community with a finished SC it will be a great game.

Agreed. Most games are busy actually working, being finished and having a complete and fun gameplay. There are some walking simulators that come close, though.

Yeah, stupid people waiting to pay when the project is actually finished and proven worthy, instead of supporting fund wasting and overall project mismanagement of a P2W pipe dream from a failed game developer and movie maker. The joke will be on them, surely.

Every time I forget this games exists there ends up being a front page news article about it. Then I come into this thread and I have a good laugh.

The gift that keeps on giving...except I haven’t paid more than $0.01 and some people are in it for $1,000+, lmao.

Can you go into the "game" right now and do/see everything that was shown in the video.

If it was just a cinematic you might have an argument, but someone was physically playing it, multiple people were. So yes its in the game even if its in different build than what is on the test servers. All parts of the game is still in testing, so if i can jump in and do it as a public tester, or if its currently in a version not rolled out yet is not important. Its in and playable by someone.

You could say the same about ArcCorp or the sand worm.

Yeah you’re right. It’s like how those non-publicly playable E3 demos are always indicative of the final version and in fact usually get much more improved once the game is released.

Oh wait. That never happens. We’re usually shown specialized versions with properly choreographed real-time gameplay to oversell games. And the end result is never remotely the same.

Being a skeptic isn’t a bad thing. Blind faith is worse.

a blind skeptic is a bad thing tho someone unwilling to see progress or change in a positive way. CiG shows plenty of progress and where things are going, ive been busy lately but i can see how much has changed an improved. They are making 2 games, SQ42 and SC sharing work loads and things that work between both. The only real concern at this point should be how well the story is done for SQ42, because even if they only hit half the marks as far as execution of gameplay is concerned it will still likely be the best space sim/fps game out there for a long time.

They can just as well say they are working on 3, 4, or even 5 games at this point. What doesn’t it matter. What’s insane is how many excuses people are willing to put up with after this much time in development AND have no problem with the money they keep asking of people through virtual land and pictures of ships. If this and if that and if if if if are all anyone can say to defend this garbage.

SC can be indefinitely delayed as long as dipshit Roberts decides that he can fork another feature into a new game or that another feature will be the corner stone of the game at which point all delays can and will be excused.

If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, and looks like a duck it must be an eagle. That seems to be the devotee’s mindset here.

Showing progress and having something of it are very different things. What other studio can consume this much money over this much time with less than 10% of a game to show for it and get away with it?
