2080ti 2080 Ownership Club

Since y’all are posting pics I’ll post mine up too :)

First custom loop I’ve ever done don’t judge too harsh lol.

Looks great to me! But it’s a good day for me as long as I don’t have it leak all over my shit lol.

Well hello there...

I replaced my 1080FE with a 2080FE and gave the 1080 to my son who is super happy to have a geek dad.

I am utterly surprised at how quiet this thing is at default. And temps hold under load. With the 1080FE I was forced to buy AIO due to noise and heat.

So far I can say I may get away with just going default on this bad boy. Expensive yes. I wont justify it in anyway other than I could so I did.

That kid probably doesn't realize how spoiled he is, lol.

I look at it as an investment. I can spend a few Thousand right now and it may give him the experience he needs in the future to land that dream job. Yes absolutely he is being given an opportunity that others aren’t. Doesn’t mean he is spoiled. It just means I have worked hard to get what I have and I don’t mind sharing with others.

Rationalize it however you want, it's like buying him an M5 for driver education purposes. And just to be clear I don't care how people spend their money, I just hope he appreciates how fortunate he is.

Got mine in Monday and have been doing the usual setup and testing. the 416.16 drivers gave me a number of issues, couldn't run Shadow of the Tomb Raider on my 4k screen, etc. Went to the 411.70 drivers and none of that. I did upgrade to Windows 10 1809 but I don't think that's caused any problems yet that I've noticed.

Anyone with 2080/2080ti can share their experiences with FFXV at 4k?

I was waiting on the release of the 2080ti to do a replay on New Game+, as FFXV is one of my favorite games of the last few years. On my Titan X pascal I had to play it at 75% render @4k to make it play nice and smoothly (which is almost a must with it's battle system), but I'm looking forward to playing at full 4k60 this time around. Unfortunately, I'm mired in TW3 and with everything else installed, I don't have the massive amount of SSD space to dedicate to it that it requires (especially with the UHD texture pack), so I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I'll check my PC when I get home to see if I can throw it on there and comment.

Clean ass setup. Nice!

Haven't really benched but I have clocks stable at 2085MHz (+110/+700) using AB.

EVGA 2080Ti XC Ultra Gaming with EK Block

I'm getting a chubby looking at that setup... awesome.

I can't decide which EVGA 2080ti to get. I will have an EK water block on the CPU. The MB is the Asus 'Formula' with the 9900K. The new rig is for gaming for son and me. I won't OC the vid card. Which EVGA 2080ti would you then get?

Thanks for any help.

I really love the look of the 2080Ti FE cards. Just wish the LEDs weren't green. Can the logo be turned off?

Precision X1's OC scanner is vague as hell. You just get a curve and a random "score" that seems to mean very little. It's also buggy as far as trying to save different settings. Every new beta changes or breaks something.
Hopefully Afterburner works better. That's what I've always used in the past, but this is my first EVGA card in many years.

Loop reorientation and CPU block upgrade to put in the 2080Ti. Replaced a 980Ti Hydrocopper. Considering the noise levels, not missing the water cooling on the GPU.

I know nothing about doing a shunt mod, and I’ve never added a water block to a gpu, but your photos make me nervous.

Water and electronics what could possibly go wrong? ;)

If you use distilled water it’s non conductive... for a while.

And the shunt was on the back of the PCB with not much around it which made it a bit less nerve racking.

Yeah, those numbers don't add up. You should be getting a better score than me with that CPU.

Well, the replacement card came in today, and while I'm getting slightly higher numbers, they aren't that great for SLI.

Single: 12466
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/4640336
SLI: 14795
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/4689331

In terms of Time Spy Extreme

Single: 6422
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/4641782
SLI: 10934
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/4689594

Now, my Time Spy Extreme finished 4th for all similar systems, and if I actually turned on XMP and overclocked, probably could get to #1.

So, I think this is definitely just an issue of the AMD chip not really being all that great when the CPU needs to be pushed.

*EDIT*

So, I turned on XMP:

Time Spy SLI: 17989
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/4690097

Time Spy Extreme:
Can't run with XMP on. I then looked at the temperatures, and they seemed fine (CPU & GPUs were all under 60 degrees). But I still think I need a new CPU cooler. The NZXT doesn't give full coverage, and the temperature is not stable at all (albeit still in normal ranges).

The new Afterburner 4.6.0 Beta 9 release (https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner) has the OC Scanner working finally...pretty dang cool:

View attachment 110988

Thanks, I’ll try it out this weekend. I settled on a max core OC of +140 and backed it down to +130 for a little buffer. So I’m guessing the scanner tool will spit out around +100 or something like that.

look at that, +130 MHz. the OC Scanner tool works pretty damn well.

^ I have a 8700K @ 4.8Ghz and my 2080Ti pulls right around 12K at stock speeds.

Waterblock + shunt mod, I am going to BIOs flash later. +0/+0, sits around 1980 Mhz. Didn't try overclocking yet. I was ~12,700 before the block + shunt mod. Power limit still spikes to 120% at times lol. Shunt modding one resistor seemed to give ~ + 20-30%PL.

I BIOs flashed the GALAX (380W rather than my base 300W). With the shunt mod I imagine I'm now around a max of 450W.

My score changed from 13465 to 13457 so I apparently wasn't power limited at all at "stock" with just the shunt mod. I'll have to try OCing VRAM and core later... off to play some games!!

Awaiting a DUKE TI coming monday hopefully. Was tempted by the trio but that small fan would drive me nuts as i have a vertical gpu mount on a windowed case. Just looks weird to have 2 larger fans and one smaller one to accommodate the nvlink fingers. Plus the 3 pcie connectors gimmick is just that...a gimmick, the trio doesn't appreciably clock better than any other card because of the gpu's built in limits.

I disconnected my shunt mod. Here and there it wasn’t coming out of 300Mhz clock which was sort of a problem. If RTX features demand more power I’ll get a resistor and do it properly. Right now just rasterized the 380W GALAX bios keeps me from being power limited. Stability far outweighs anything else for me.

Even without the shunt mod I got 14200 on TimeSpy. About 2120 Mhz/+1000 on the VRAM.

I am going to have my 24/7 settings about 2080 and +700 since I don’t have time to vet where the card actually fails right now. Very happy with it!

TLDR of my adventure:
* shunt mod not needed without RTX (TBD if RTX benefits)
* Asus Dual card stock was power limited to ~12700 TimeSpy
* Asus Dual had moderate noise
* GALAX 380W Bios flash + waterblock (a good air cooler would probably suffice as well) allowed ~14200 TimeSpy (+12%)

One of two 2700X's on the Firestrike Ultra HOF lol

So, while the second card arrived, and everything seems to work fine, one of the logo lights (for the old card) wasn't working. I switched card locations, and it still isn't working. Since the cards work, it's not that big of a deal to me, but at $1200 apiece, I contacted NVidia, so both of my original cards are now going to have been replaced.

Overall, I can't say I've been thrilled with this launch one bit.

Nice numbers from those 2080ti's. I'm out of the GPU upgrade cycle until next fall at least.

I totally get why you'd want a brand new $1200 GPU to not have any issues. But why do you have to get both cards replaced if only one has a problem?
