Has anyone picked it up? Is it worth the value? It looks like a variation of Prison Architect, but folk keep saying it is more Dwarf Fortress but pretty. Seems two years of activity is positive and helps even though this is in 'beta'.

its great, and lots of mod support.

i mean you can turn it into a starship troopers game lol

or star wars RPG with jedi skill progression and lightsabers

It's a awesome game that you can wrap hundreds of hours in. Totally worth $30. I picked it up before it was on steam for cheap but I would buy it at that price if I didn't have it already.

Aight.. I'll add it for my fall sale buy list.

I do not understand what this means.

It has a 97% positive Steam review score, which is pretty remarkable. Not that the review score is everything, but it's not a bad indicator either.

Another thing... The game has never gone on sale (unless you count a $40 Humble Bundle it was in once, IIRC). The price is reportedly going up after it leaves early access. I don't know what the dev's plans are, but I wouldn't get any hopes up for a sale in the fall.

Was recommended to me but I don't usually go for early access games

If you're afraid about it being half baked/in development, Rimworld is leaving early access in less than a week, on October 17. The full 1.0 version is in a public beta branch anyone can download, the dev is just waiting to make sure earth shattering bugs don't pop up before the official release. That being said, it's not your typical EA pre-alpha either, and felt more polished a year ago than most full games in my Steam library (IMO).

so I went and bought it, I like it, it reminds me of Banished but with more stuff to do than just build build build, and uh build some more.

It's great, and for those that know it is basically baby's first dwarf fortress.

Mods are fantastic, development has been smooth. Highly recommend, and if you like it I recommend stepping up to dwarf fortress.

I have 481 hours in this game, definitely worth it. It's probably the only early access game I've ever bought.

The game was wonderful. It's a fine example of a game which offers complexity and fun in exchange for not wasting too much time on graphics.

I've put tons of time into it.

on my second colony now, first colony went kaput after I open the ancient danger and some nasty robots came out and eviscerated my poor colonists

Rimworld isn't a roguelike, but it is like DF in the sense that dying in new, creative ways is half the fun. Awhile back, the only competent cook in my large-ish colony died, and mass food poisoning from incompetent chefs wiped me out.

Anyway, I recommend opening ancient dangers during raids. If you time it right, whatever is inside will kill the raiders!

Well this time around there were these spider robot instead and I have turrets and traps setup in that direction ahead of time. I actually sent this silly boomrat that tamed itself to that area to trigger them coming out, still lost one of my turret tho. now I am trying to figure out how to make my bedrooms more impressive cause that seems to the most common gripe among these ingrates
