According to documents obtained by Motherboard, new Macbook Pros and iMac Pros can't be repaired or modified without authorization from Apple. Both of the company's new computers contain a "T2" chip that handles storage, facial recognition, the touch bar, and the fingerprint sensor, among other things. But that same chip also locks users out of the system when it detects "any repair which involves replacing a MacBook Pro’s display assembly, logic board, top case (the keyboard, touchpad, and internal housing), and Touch ID board. On iMac Pros, it will kick in if the Logic Board or flash storage are replaced." The documents say that the computer can only be unlocked by running proprietary Apple software, which Motherboard claims is only available to "persons working at Apple-authorized service facilities."

"This is a portion of the ecosystem that has been very healthy. Independent repair companies have been fixing MacBooks undaunted by the user-hostile activities Apple has taken," Wiens said. "It could be really detrimental to schools, to people who live in rural areas. If they stick with this, it seems like a huge argument in favor of right to repair."

SCT just lost a court battle with the EPA; so restrictions are coming to the Car modding business.

Being able to reflash the EEC has too much control for consumers to possess, apparently.

You do know that every modern car can be turned off remotely?

That was the reason they mandated drive by wire; I've only heard of limited use, but they can.

I tune cars, that's the only reason I know about it.

As if other manufactures won't follow suit if that boosts Apple's bottom line....
There is one Apple. There are many PC manufacturers. They won't do it just to use as a selling point against any other PC manufacturer that does.

im waiting for the day.. soon i hope!!, that when i go and buy a new toilet, it will be internet connected and come with a EULA. It will also require me to create an account with the manufacture, and it will monitor my usage.. SMS's me reports on usage. and then when things break, only authorized repair techs can come and fix it.

we can top it off with periodic firmware updates that will crash preventing me from flushing

So they went from 12 to 14 percent PC marketshare in the last year, in another year they probably will go down to 9% when people find out they cant cheap out and upgrade memory and the SSD. So Why do people buy their shit again? I mean people claim quality, and grant it their products look good, but the quality of the exterior versus the actual quality of what matters on the inside are on 2 separate levels, 1 being a 10/10 while the other in most cases are a 2/10.

You forgot to mention you cant use it or flush it if the internet is out, even though its a single player toilet you'll have to connect to their server first to access it.

All toilets are single player...otherwise you are doing it wrong.

People that buy Apple computers are not computer people, they buy them as a fashion accessory that happens to also perform the functions of a basic computer.

Multiplayer capable toilets means you can play Battleshits with your buddies, they use their own internet connected device, you use yours, and battle each other where shits and farts are the salvos.. or add to the points. Highest score wins!

Oh, I love technology. Up till now, you had to be in the same multi-toilet bathroom to play Battleshits.. Not anymore!

I'm sorry, sir. Your anal sphincter does not match what I have on file. Please reposition your Anal Sphincter and try again.

I see by the feces running down your legs you no longer need to use the toilet. Have a nice day.

Incorrect. If you're a good enough player it is possible to have a multi-player game on your toilet or at a bar or club. Apparently you're not a good enough player.

I love my 2012 Macbook because I can take it apart and repair it. I will never pay someone to fix a computer that I can fix myself.

I feel like I own the device. Not getting another Mac, even though I love MacOS for work. Hackintoshes are still a thing fortunately.

To quote Apple's customer relations policy.
"nos clients ne sont rien d'autre qu'une vieille servante qui a l'habitude d'être violée et qui ne se bat pas beaucoup"

That's not completley true. A lot of their customer base is artists, photographers and musicians and they ain't buying them as a fashion accessory, it's mostly what they like and in some cases Mac has the s/w they want and PCs don't. Apple has been the choice of musicians for decades. I recall seeing Yes in 80 and Jeff Downes had an Apple ][ (or was it a ][+) on his keyboard. I know some who use PCs since 10 came out, but it's still mostly apple for musicians.

I'll add a co worker who switched jobs and got a mac at work had bought a mac for home use within a year and he's a s/w engineer. I haven't use Macs in decades, so I have no opinion on the pros and cons of OS X. I've considerd getting one off and on for a few years, but I never bite.

Apple knows best. It is about time they took control of this out of control market! Apple knows best. The idea of people being able to tear apart (gasp) their computer and upgrade/service them is soooo 2017. Apple knows best. I do not know what we would do without the brilliant minds at Apple showing us the right way to build a computer! Apple knows best. Protecting the magic infused into thier products should have been done a long time ago! Apple knows best. Lowly users have no business touching the inside of an Apple computer. Apple knows best. Once you acknowledge your ignorance and accept Apple knows best, then Apple knows best.

[NOTE: If you are not prone to giggle or smile when you read something, then you should just move along and ignore this post. Failure to comprehend sarcasm is not my problem. My only problem is being sarcastic.]

Don't forget the recurring service fee for maintenance of the anti-stink module that was supposed to replace U shaped trap pipes.

Niche purpose use doesn't account for apples expansion in the market. For the majority of people, lay people, a mac is a style accessory. Hell I'd argue it's the same way for musicians that use macs, they are a very fashion obsessed crowd, they sell on look.

Didn't the surface pro have pressure sensitivity? Artists will always choose less features + apple because it's tradition and that's what they are used to.

Infact apple is winning the "it's easy to use and I'm used to it" argument because kids grow up at schools using apple. My kids take home iPads, the other school let kids keep their MacBook pro after graduation.

or if you over use it or the load is too large for stated capacity and double flushing will be disabled....

It does, but that's Microsoft, every artist knows their an uncool evil mega Corp.

Had a good chat a few years ago with a bunch of local artists about computers. They heard I was a computer guy and wanted some advise. Turned out all they wanted was to be validated for choosing Macs. Basically boiled down to they have the program's I need (all of which are PC compatible), a mistaken believe in the superior components based solely on price point, and that they look the part. I just said use em if they work for you, but you can do all the same things, with better hardware, for about 2/3rds the price if they wanted to switch out.

If you say so. I know quite a few apple users who are technical that switched after they used one. I've got friends that used PCs for decades that love them. I don't buy into the Apple is perfect BS, but the people I know that use them don't have them because they think they're cool or because the look good.
