Looking to get a USB cable to charge my Switch while playing. Got one with my $10 case but the battery still drains when playing Mario Kart. Plan to hook it up to my PC's USB 3 port, so it will need to be a Type A to Type C. Will also end up charging from an outlet. Is this even possible if you don't use a proper charge with power brick?

Was looking at these.

Amazonbasics 5V, 3 Amp:

Amazonbasics 5V, 3 Amp 3.1:

Anker 56KΩ:

My understanding is 56KΩ is desirable for the Switch, but unsure on what V or Amp I'd need. Or if my PC/outlet can even supply enough power via a Type A to Type C cable only.

For more cinematic games I'd use my PC monitor, but I want to be able to use my PC and Switch at the same time as I only have one monitor. In these cases using the dock won't work.

Here is a great guide on chargers for the switch.

Interesting for sure. I'd be interested in more battery life since I travel quite frequently, but wouldn't mind a better screen either. I'm not sure how they're really going to improve it to make it worthwhile to sell off the old one (or whatever) and grab the new one, we'll just have to wait and see.

clickbait article

There is no news in there, this is 99.9% not going to happen.

Clickbait, perhaps, but I'm not sure it's quite 99.9%. The chances of them following suit (Sony and Microsoft) and doing some upgrades after two years is pretty likely. No official word yet, but I wouldn't put it past them to release an updated variant. All speculation though to be truthful.

I keep seeing the updates Switch articles in lots of different places, but literally nobody has any details. If it does happen, I bet it's going to be closer to the non-advertised revisions of the Xbox 360 or maybe something akin to the "slim" Sony variants. Maybe a larger/better screen on the device itself along with more storage and a different dock. Maybe they'll toss in some more streaming video apps and whatnot, too. I just don't see how they could do anything drastic without alienating people or making it cost a fortune.

History tells us that Nintendo will likely create a New Switch at some point, if the Gameboy, DS, 3DS evolution is any indication. And then, they will create a New-New Switch at some point after that, both with minor feature updates to keep the system "fresh". I'd be really surprised if they didn't.

Their non-portable consoles don't get updates/refreshes in any regular sense.

There might have been an updated N64 (remember that weirdo module you needed for Majora's Mask) and then there was the weirdo SNES and NES - but those I think were just updated physical forms, not substantial upgrades? The handhelds are way different, Gameboy's have had a ton of updates, and the DS went 3D with multiple variants, and then its new(ish?) final form is the 2DS (Plus?).

That said, the Switch has sold extremely well. And is portable. So... it's a possibility.

also not out of the question: the next version will be all red and include an HMD mount+stand

Die shrink makes perfect sense for the Switch. They rushed it out the door, so mobile mode it has a little under half the performance of SHIELD Android TV.

It allows you to bump up clock speed of both the GPU and CPU.

The Switch runs it's CPUs at half he speed of SHIELD Android TV. This NEVER changes in docked mode.

The Switch down clocks it's GPU when in mobile mode to 40% of he docked speed. Even in docked mode, it's several hundred mhz lower than the Shield.

With a die shrink, you could easily make the GPU always default to "docked" clocks (performance boost with no game changes required), and give the system performance growth in docked mode (in new an patched games, you could bump it up to 1ghz). You could also bump-up the CPU performance all modes (aim for somewhere between 1.5 and 2.0 Ghz), with a 1.0Ghz compatibility mode.

They also could take advantage of the same die shrink to make a more portable version (running at launch clocks). I'm thinking something closer in size to e current 3dsxl top screen. If you sell it only with fixed controls and no dock, I'm sure they could sell it for $199.

You can call them "The New Nintendo Switch," and "The Nintendo AntiSwitch." That would give you the docked performance the Android TV promised (New), and the mass-market portable they need to replace the 3ds (Anti).

Is there a fix on my left controller constantly losing connection? I already unpaired the controllers, then repaired them. The batteries are charged and they are up to date too. I can only use 3/4 of my joycons because of this issue.

Picked up Starlink for the switch because Arwing. It's no man's sky light mixed up with an ubi open world game. It's not terrible. When you use Fox McClouds special it starts pumping out the versus battle music from starfox 64. It makes me grin like a loon every time. Muh feels, muh nostalgia.

It is actually pretty cool, I've been meaning to make a separate thread about it but this is probably good enough. Definitely a must buy if you're into the Star Fox style gameplay.

I wanted to be interested in this game, but the DLC model really turned me off to it...full-priced $60 title is the "starter" edition with $5-$12 a pop weapon/ship packs. Of course you can pay $80 or whatever to get the "full" experience.

No thanks, Ubisoft.

Valid complaint, but.....Arwing. I am and always have been Nintendo's bitch. I'm only buying the one toy and then I just picked up digital versions of the other stuff I wanted. I guess what I really want is starfox 64 remaster or a modern starfox without stupid shit added on....like the last several.

It is a bummer that most of the cool stuff is gated by the paywall (lessened a bit by purchasing all ships and enhancements digitally, I think the price is half of what the physical items cost), but you do get a lot of bang for buck in terms of fun and completionist activities. I personally think the ships and add-ons are neat and will be grabbing the rest of them.

The $60 digital edition looks like it is enough to do everything in the game. It's still shitty, but its a leg up on most other toys-to-life games. It's a pity the toys themselves are only of meh quality. The Arwing looks neat, but the pilots look kind of bad.

I think that's what it really boils down to, you CAN play the game just fine and experience pretty much everything if you just buy it digitally. If you're someone who doesn't care about digital vs physical and don't mind having the physical, the toys are pretty neat, and it's a nice experience swapping parts. Necessary? Not at all. Fun? For sure.

What timeline is this?

Been a long year - anyone else excited to finally have the new Smash this week? I tried to play a little bit of the WiiU version to warm up and I'm apparently terrible now. Hopefully I can get back into the groove before people start hacking the online modes.

What I'll be most excited about is when the Smash hype and advertising storm subsides.

I actually haven't even seen a commercial for it yet. I suppose they don't feel like pushing it during Jeopardy, College Football, and Chopped :p

So, has anyone here used SX OS or anything to rip legit carts to microSD? I don't really have any interest in non-legit copies of stuff, but I'd love to be able to have all of my carts digitally on the system. ONLY if there's no threat of having my Switch blacklisted, of course.

Not quite sure where to start since most of the scene seems to be mostly interested in pirated stuff or general homebrew.

I've used SX pretty extensively. I'd say if you don't want to be banned, don't bother. It's extremely difficult to avoid it. You essentially would need to play offline all the time and only ever ever even have wifi enabled if youre launching in retail mode. Nintendo has a ton of ways to detect a modified system and it's only going to get worse. Youre better off sucking it up and buying system for retail and a system to goof around with. It was worth to me just because I love goofing around with stuff like Retroarch and linux apps.

Yeah, that's the impression I've gotten. Haven't really even touched it since I tried booting SX OS the first time.

Yep, my copy is on pre-order. I haven't played Smash in awhile but I'm looking forward to going through the story mode, it looks pretty interesting this time around.

btw here's a sweet XMAS bundle for anyone still on the fence

I ordered one of those when I saw it pop up awhile back. Not really satisfied with the Skull&Co grip - good build quality but it doesn't fit my hands very well. Probably would be alright for someone with smaller hands. This one looks a lot better, plus I could use the carrying case.

Tried out Mario Kart online for the first time yesterday (didn't buy into the Nintendo Online yet because it's total shit as far as I'm concerned, but wanted to give the 7 day trial a go). Opened up the app on my phone, had two friends connect, and away we went. Was all very seamless to be honest. I had my AirPods in for the phone/chat audio, and tv for game sound, worked out pretty well. Not awesome, but at least it's something. The app reset (or something) a few times, so we had to tap a button to go back in, but it held on for most of the night, quality was decent (about the same quality as talking on the phone via speakerphone in a quiet room, tolerable).

Long way for them to go to get this to not be as disjointed as it is currently.

Smash is finally here! ...and it feels like Smash to me. I'm mostly a filthy casual, but apparently even the die hards that only play the GC version apparently kinda like it, too.

I totally forgot about my preorder for Smash several months ago and found the package on my porch. Sweet.

Smash should be waiting for me when I get home...can't wait! It looks awesome and it's been awhile since I've played Smash since I skipped the Wii U.

I brought my Switch with me to work so I could hopefully unlock some more characters. I've got Ness, Zelda, Bowser, and Pit so far. The AI for the unlockable characters is actually pretty good...at least for players of my skill level.

who cares about online when offline is already cursed with horrible input lactency ?

no patch = no buy from me
