Russian Hackers Use Malware That Can Survive OS Reinstalls

And this is why UEFI was/is a bad idea.
I've always turned mine off and tried to explain to others that it's essentially a useless feature for Microsoft to figure out another way to lock down your computer from being easy to use with other operating systems. But, nobody wants to believe that guy. And, here we are...

2 posts in and someone is already blaming Microsoft. Gotta be a record.

Lol. Did you read the article? It literally says that it's Microsoft's operating system that's affected by this, in the first sentence... Microsoft was already blamed far before I came along

They were putting root kits in Bios before, so I dunno that I would necessarily blame uefi... Just a different attack vector that's all

Is there even a way to turn it off? On most UEFI motherboards I've seen I've never found an option. I've always hated it too for the simple reason that it adds extra complexity to the boot process for nothing and greatly slows it down. Instead of the computer taking a few seconds to get to the point where it loads the OS, it now takes 10+ seconds. Any time saved by a faster booting OS is lost via slower POST.
