West Virginia has enabled blockchain secured voting through a smartphone app for service members serving overseas. The state has one of the highest rates of military service per capita and the postal service in some parts of the world is so bad that military service members couldn't vote in the 2012 and 2014 primary elections. The app's creator, Voatz, says that if the app detects malware on the phone then it won't run. Votes are stored on the blockchain ledger until election night and the app surpasses "federal standards for software development, regular maintenance and security upgrades, in-depth penetration testing, source code auditing and audits of the system's cloud infrastructure." As reported before, many do not trust mobile voting.

The app also requires several authentication steps before a voter receives a ballot. First, an eligible user is sent a six-digit code over text message that's required to be entered to unlock the app. After that, Voatz requires users to upload a selfie and a government-issued photo identification. Ballots are issued after the two images are verified. Once ballots are submitted, users receive emails confirming their choices. Only after the votes are confirmed are they sent to the local election offices back in West Virginia.

Right it really has nothing to do about trusting mobile voting. It's ALL voting that takes place on the internet that we don't trust.

With me it's all about that paper back up. If shit goes really sideways I always want the option to have some people sit in rooms all over the country and count those votes by hand.

I don't even like the idea of transmitting that data in the first place, the effort to eliminate the paper in a whole bunch of countries feels like a huge mistake to me.

Blockchain would be a perfect way to fight the IDEA of vote hacking. You can't cheat math. But it likely wouldn't do anything to fight voter fraud, which is the far bigger issue, since we at least know it actually happens. Dead people vote. People get bused around to multiple states to vote.

And that is why voter ID should be required to vote.

But the Dems won't have that because their party is the one that has dead people voting and people being bussed around to vote in multiple places.

And non citizen foreigners voting in our elections as well

This is just a bad idea and an even worse implementation. So many ways this can go wrong it is laughable they are doing it.

If your ass can't be bothered to go to yourylocal our pol locations then you shouldn't be voting.

I don't even know why they trying to make it legal for non citizens to vote when they already do it.
Did you even read anything beyond the headline? They specifically talked about service members in foreign countries where there is little to no mail service. Do you really want to tell all our brave soldiers around the world that they can't vote because they are out of the country putting their lives on the line for the rest of us back here sitting in our easy chairs watching TV?

Yeah sure the Dems are really so concerned about the soldiers. I'm sure that goes over great in your echo chamber.

All the editing that went into this video to put this all together, and you couldn't get the audio to loop without an awkward pause in the dead center of the video?

What the fuck are you mumbling about? I'm so conservative I make you look like a socialist. I was referring to the "If your ass can't be bothered to go to your local pol locations then you shouldn't be voting" comment. There are legitimate reasons for some people to use this type of system, and I don't think it's anymore ripe for abuse than the current system where ballot-box stuffing and dead people voting happens all the time. At least it requires some sort of ID. So maybe you should give Snowden his jacket back and stop making stupid assumptions about people.

Do you need voter ID to vote via mobile phone?

Did you even read the blurb about the article?

Voting really pisses me off, not cuz i have to go there and do it, i really feel it should be mandated by law that you have to vote.
No ! My problem lies in there are no single person in the 12 or so eligible parties here that are worthy of my vote, or any vote if you ask me. So voting for me is a reminder how much i have failed in my civic duties, and how sick my country are.

Still i go there, sign in, get my ballots fold then up nicely and put them in the box with no X in sight.
I would prefer to bring the ballot with me and use it for target practice, but thats not allowed.

But other than that i am a huge fan of that old Greek invention Demos Kratos, just wish we could improve on it cuz it are a flawed system as it is now.

Dont like E voting, but it should be a option for the sick and elderly.

I don't understand the US voting system, here in Canada we register when we register we are assigned a polling station where we have to vote, if we are unable to make it for the day of the vote early voting is conducted at that location upwards of a week in advance. There are options for mailing in my vote but I have never had to use it so I am not 100% sure on the exact process but I do know that I am required to present 2 pieces of photo ID when I do vote.

Our ballets are easy to read, when I arrive they tear mine out of a booklet, it has my name on it to identify it as mine, when I complete my vote my name is torn off it and placed aside to indicate that I had turned in my ballot and my ballot goes into the box. I am then physically unable to vote at that location again and because I was assigned to that location no other location has a ballet for me to fill out, so I am unable to vote twice.

What fucking bad mail system for service members overseas or at sea? The military handles all the us mail for the services, the military hands it over to usps in the apo/fpo. If WV can't handle the mail ballots it's not the military post office's fault.

Twice when I served our election ballots got to us late or past time.
USPS delivered them late and I have explained this before.
Hillary did her damndest to prevent any other currier of military votes.
Some senators wanted next day shipping of FedEx but Hillary fought that.

Don't forget the manipulation of late military votes by liberals and the US Postal Service.
As usual, the Democrats do everything they can to suppress the military vote, as the vast majority are conservative.

Veterans are voting Republican. And that’s not likely to change.

Quote"For many years, delivery of military ballots from overseas could take as long as three weeks. In 2005 and again in 2008 The National Association of Secretaries of State unanimously endorsed an express mail solution to reduce delivery time to 4 days. In 2008, legislation to establish the express mail system was introduced by California Representative Kevin McCarthy, now House Republican Chief Deputy Whip, and Texas Senator John Cornyn, now head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. The legislation was passed in the Senate but killed by Democratic Party leaders in the House, allegedly because postal unions, specifically the Rural Letter Carriers Union, opposed allowing anyone but union workers to carry ballots."http://www.militaryvotingrightsusa.org/news.html

"Over 35 counties in Illinois missed the deadline to mail military ballots to our soldiers defending America. But in Chicago, county election officials have taken special steps to ensure that no inmates at the Cook County Jail are unable to cast a ballot." http://biggovernment.com/capitolcon...wait-for-ballots-prisoners-get-hand-delivery/ Prisonser=Liberal, Soldiers=Conservative.
Thats some to get you started.

I just don't even have a funny comment to throw in. Our entire voting system needs a complete overhaul.

In every election, Democrats quietly launch a full on assault to ensure the votes of servicemembers are not counted. They have a team of lawyers that seek to disqualify those ballots, and because of delays and other problems with the Military Post Office the Dems lawyers are often successful in having thousands of ballots disqualified. Hopefully this will help. (it's worth noting they do this while simultaneously doing their best to leave as many opportunities for voter fraud open)

Most of you seem to be unaware that military can already vote via fax or email...

This cant be any less secure than that...

Excuse for pointing the obvious, but isn't voting supposed to be anonymous? How does using your own phone and being facially recognized fit the bill? LOL!

A physical ID, presented in person, to a voting/polling worker who checks the ID, the person, and the voting sheet, is how it should be done. Then, a physical vote is recorded.

That is the only way to combat fraud.

Stiff, very stiff, jail terms for anyone convicted of voter fraud should follow. Double the penalty if they are the person working in the polling station. And, a lifetime revocation of their voting rights.

Edit: And I say this based on my history of absentee balloting from my years in the military. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that absentee ballots are not even looked at unless the number of absentee ballots could change the outcome of the vote. Those absentee ballots aren't even counted...

That's exactly how voting in Canada works.

Present Id and card they check you off a list and you vote.

Amazingly enough, in many precincts in the US, you just verbally identify yourself. The Democrat Party was strenuously in opposition to any voter ID laws. Law enforcement is not present, so any denial of voting due to fraudulent identification is not prosecuted. The fraud (who is rarely even stopped from voting) just leaves.

There is illegal voting by the Democrats. If you move to stop it, they act like you're creating a barrier to people voting.

And if you cut ahead in a line everyone throws down their stick and gloves and beats your ass like it's a hockey game too. ;)
Not that I have ever had to wait more than 15 minutes in a line, they move through the lines fast.
