The Apple Watch Series 4 is probably the best thing to come out of Apple's most recent conference. All the reviews that I've seen have been very positive and name it the best iterative Apple Watch upgrade due to its redesign and big performance boost. I had a stainless steel 42mm first generation (some call it a Series 0) since launch and very recently sold it for $150 since it officially reached end of life in regards to software updates.

Tonight I found an Open Box - Excellent condition 44mm Space Black Stainless Steel Series 4 for $688 ($72 off retail). I figured that since the watch was only about a day old it's likely to still be in pristine condition so I saved myself about 10% off the price. It's supposed to be here on October 1st.

Anyone else upgrading or purchasing their first Apple Watch this time around with the Series 4? I'm pretty pumped as I think it'll be a massive upgrade from my previous first generation.
 
I might upgrade from my Gen3 LTE in a few months since trade in value is half the cost of the Gen4. I need to see in person how much larger the screen is vs the previous generations and to check out some of the watch faces that support mote "complications." Honestly, the cellular-enabled watch is the killer app of the Apple mobile platform and is the only thing keeping me from jumping back to android- I've had a lot of android watches over the years and kept trying them including some cellular options like the Urbane LTE, Gear S3 (Tizen, not WearOS), etc but in the end it's a device that basically services up notifications from the phone- "the Apple watch is the same" some might say- it might seem that way, but once you've used one for a week, it becomes obvious that that's not really the case.

If anyone is going to be buying a new Apple Watch, spend the extra cash and buy the cellular-enabled one- TMo will give you three months of service for free, so it's certainly worth checking out.
 
If I could pair a personal LTE apple watch with my work phone I probably would consider it but I'm otherwise still perfectly happy with my "old" series 2 watch.

I wish you could have two separate pairing profiles on the Apple Watch. So when I was at work I could have the watch paired with my work phone and while at home I could pair it with my personal phone. I'd get a LOT more use out of my watch if that was the case.

Sign into both phones with the same Apple ID and stop carrying 2 phones?

Have to have a separate AppleID for work. It's company policy in case they need to later unlock my phone when I leave the company (on good or bad terms).

Even if you had the same Apple ID, unpairing and repairing multiple times a day seems like a pita. Buy your own XS and use the dual sim functionality for your work line.

I still don't understand why you can't get the stainless steel/sapphire crystal without cellular, especially when the cellular bands are single region only.

If you run both with the same ID then you don't need to carry two phones in the first place....

I have to carry two phones and they use the same Apple ID, until the XS there was no way to have a multi-sim iPhone.
 
No, you choose to carry two phones. Forward phone and text to whatever phone you want. No need to carry the second phone.

Can't do that, one's a T-Mobile DE phone and the other's T-Mobile USA. The XS should finally allow me to consolidate to a single iPhone.

Not sure why that matters. Neither call forwarding (basic telephone function) nor Text message forwarding (linked to Apple ID) care about carriers but this thread is derailed enough. Sounds like you have a plan already.

As much as I want to, I just can't. I'm gonna be rocking this series 2 till Apple kills it.

You can't call forward to an International Number with T-Mobile USA, nor can you forward to an International number with Deustche Telekom. It also doesn't address International Roaming for data, which is what having a multisim iPhone will fix as well.

And back on topic, this is why having region specific LTE Apple Watches doesn't work well and why they should offer every version of the watch without LTE.

Incorrect. I work in a federally regulated and audited industry. A government inspector may confiscate any device you use for work purposes. Thus, the company I work for provides us with all devices so in the case of an audit our personal devices are not subject to confiscation.

Again this isn't a limitation of the hardware, this is a choice. Perhaps one that was made for you but still a choice. The point still 100% stands.

Back on topic: Just received notice that my watch delivers Friday! Haven't had a watch for a week and started to realize for convenient it is.
 
My Series 4 watch came in. Just wow.

Coming from a 1st generation Apple Watch this thing is a MASSIVE upgrade. Everything opens instantly which is insane compared to the 1st generation watch that took anywhere between 5-15 seconds to open most apps. Also the 30% larger screen makes a much bigger difference than I imagined. Just operating the watch alone is much easier with more accurate screen taps. I'm testing out the cellular connectivity with T-Mobile's 3 month free trial and call quality is surprisingly very good. Everyone I called thought I was just talking through a normal phone and they came in loud and clear. So far initial impressions are very positive.
 
Well that didn’t take long- my order for the Gen4 LTE placed- too many reviews talking about the new display etc.

On the fence about upgrading from my X...

Awesome to hear- how’s the phone volume? The Gen3 just never got loud enough to use outside or around any sort of noise.

The volume is pretty good; I didn't have a Series 3 so I can't say if its louder or not - but I didn't have any issues hearing it inside my apartment with the various background noise (talking, TV, laundry, etc). I even was walking around my apartment and had the watch at my side and I had no trouble hearing and the microphone had no issue picking up my voice. I don't use the speaker functionality outside because I don't want others to hear my conversations.

That’s awesome that the mics work so well- I believe there’s an additional mic in the 4 vs 3. I don’t generally use the phone function either, but I’m on call for work regularly and it’s my failsafe- even if I leave my phone behind accidentally, I won’t miss any calls from nurses.... they get upset if you don’t answer
 
My first-gen Watch is long in the tooth and the series 4 looks really good. I'm going to be an exploitive and patient cheapskate though, so I have a "notify me" in at B&H PhotoVideo, once they have stock I'll order one from them since tax is for wussies. My current Watch has a trade-in of 25 whole earth dollars, so instead I'll just give it to a relative.
 
I upgraded mine, my gf's, and my father's Series 3 (aluminum, LTE) to the 4 and even then it's a solid difference. Screen is noticeably better/bigger and buttons on screen are easier to hit as a result. Didn't go with the SS models because I wear an SS watch on my left wrist and it's plenty hefty enough where I don't need the other hand to be heavy as well.

Usually, at least a few days a week. I usually wear long sleeves (button-downs or sweaters), so you don't really see either watch for what it's worth. I like the workout and phone connectivity features of the watch, but I like collecting watches in general, so neither one can really go. I take the Apple watch off on the weekends if I'm just lounging around or not planning to answer my phone.
