With less people watching both award shows and television in general, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is contemplating streaming the Oscars after their current deal with ABC expires. “TV is going nowhere. So why don’t we just get our money [from a streaming deal], not worry about ratings, and call it a day?” Netflix had approached the Academy last year, expressing interest in hosting the show.

By 2022, 20% of U.S. adults will have ditched their cable or satellite TV subscriptions, according to eMarketer. By 2028, when the Academy’s deal with ABC expires, who knows where we’ll be? Netflix could own a sizable theater chain by then, and Amazon could be green-lighting shows based on what Alexa overheard Jordan Peele say at breakfast.

To be honest, nobody cares about these award ceremonies. They make no god damn sense. None of the most popular movies or TV shows ever make it. The movies that do are hardly seen by anyone. The whole event is just one big echo chamber, to make creators feel better about their work, considering nobody watched it. Make movies people care about, like Back To The Future or Lord of the Rings. Nobody cares if it's based on true events. Nobody wants another racial story, or retarded kid story, or some woman getting abused story. This is the day in age of anime and super hero's, so figure it out, otherwise let capitalism do its thing.

Who the fuck DOESNT want to watch a bunch of Hollywood retards giving eachother circle jerks and reach arounds for 3 hours straight? Boy I know I do!

EDIT: God damnit, b10 by M76

No one wants to tune into the Oscars because it has turned into a RANK Benjo Ditch, one sided Soapbox.

Once you've turned away from their opinion, to form your own, you will never turn that shit on again.
That is what they fear. They want people thinking:

"What would we do without the enlightened political insight of celebrities, telling us how to vote??"

The actors blaming failed "Solo" on sexists. The actors and crew of "Ghostbusters" remake blaming it's failure on sexism. The actors and crew of "Star Trek: Discovery" blaming it's failure on homophobia AND racism. "Comedians" blaming the President of the United States for their failure.
That's just a few off the top of my head.
Instead of taking the blame for a failed movie or failing ratings of the Oscars, they all want to blame "sexists", "racists", "homophobes" and even a "rape society" for their failure.

Why?
Because No one wants to be labeled a sexist, racist, homophobe, so they know if you fear that label, you'll watch it so you wont be one.
As in: Either you watch it and like it, or you're literally Hitler.

They can take their failures and eat them, instead of labeling anyone who didn't like the movies or their political agenda.
Fuck the Oscars and all involved.

I can taste the bitterness. Anyways, I believe that we all don't really care one way or another.

Go ahead and put it on streaming, and see the viewer ship numbers go even lower.

Who wants to watch a bunch of rich people, give each other awards for shows/movies nobody watches, while congratulate them selves and insulting most of their audience?

Don't see why anyone outside the Hollyweird bubble would ever watch one of these shows.

The only network television... thing... that isn't completely dying is the NFL. The NFL is declining too, but at half the rate of everything else.

I'm still not sure that streaming can fix all the boring attached to award shows.

Go ahead and put it on streaming, and see the viewer ship numbers go even lower.
I think them putting it on streaming will just verify the fact that the loss in viewership wasn't due to cord cutters, people still aren't going to watch it if they stream it.

When you declare war against a certain group of people, that group of people will not watch your programming.

You're performing a fix for a different problem, and expecting a different resolution.

I watch the Oscars but mostly because of the parties... fun to guess who will win etc. I have OTA tv so can already watch/record it, but lots of people watch illegal streams of it already - why not put out legal streams with ads? then you can advertise how many more viewers you had. win/win

Make movies people care about, like Back To The Future or Lord of the Rings. Nobody cares if it's based on true events.

Back to the Future. Two nominations, one win.

Lord of the Rings. Thirteen Niminations, four wins.

(return of the king got 11 nominations, 11 wins BTW).

So.. yeah.

The real reason nobody cares about watching the oscars is that the only thing of interest can be summed up in a bullet list on one side of an 8 x 11 sheet of paper. Prior to the internet, to get that info, you either had to watch the damn thing after it shut off 1/3 of your tv programming, watch the nightly news until damn near the end and then not get the whole list, or shell out $0.75 to buy a shitty newspaper you then had to package up for recycling. The options sucked.

Now I can go to a website 30 seconds after it's over and get the damn bullet list. So can everyone else.
