So in nVidia land the 2080 Ti for now has taken the place (with performance ) that the Titan normally filled, while the 2080 seems to just about always edge past the 1080 Ti - nVidia gossip out there is that we will see in time a RTX Titan (at large price increase over Ti), have to wonder how much more nVidia can get out of this series to make a Titan worth it - Or will the RTX Titan have HBM and maybe even 7nm?

An RTX Titan card would just be a less-cut-down TU102. 12GB@384 and up to 4608 CUDA cores. Probably all 96 ROPs.

Doesn't the chip need a different memory controller and tons of pins to connect to an interposer to use HBM2?

and what would be the price for this titan? how large would it be? 900mm^2?

Titan came first historically.

NVidia stopped using Titan for gaming cards with Titan V.

2080Ti is this years Titan.

I expect there will be no Gaming Titan this generation.

Didn't Nvidia trademark another name when details started emerging of new product names? Was it a "Plus" model or something like that?

They can still do a full fat bigger than Ti card and call it something different. Don't know if they will or what they'll call it off they do. Probably "Quadro" and not sell it to gamers would be my guess.

WAG: later, the 2080Ti will actually sell for $999, and the full chip enabled Titan will be $1199 for that extra 5% performance.

That was the speculation last month, Before NVidia revealed the RTX 20 series. People were just guessing it would be a Titan like it was in past releases.

Now these rumors have already been revealed false.

nVidia will launch a new Titan in 6-8 months, $1500 USD, 10% more performance.

Nvidia will release a 2000 series Titan version if AMD releases something competitive within the next 6 months...otherwise no point

They may have full dies to try and get rid of at some point. For gamers a 2080ti with a solid vrm/cooling system for half the cost (?) will be a better choice. Gaming side by side you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Full dies already used here:
Quadro RTX 8000

History. I could be wrong, but Nvidia loves money, the 1500 bracket is open, and the name in their back pocket is Titan RTX, different then the prosumer Titan V.

That’s what I based my very generic statement on. But yeah - if a Titan came out if would make about zero sense if a ti is already out.

Titan Xp.

Titan Xp.

Not sure why you quoted me and put Titan Xp. Unless you thought I was saying it wouldn’t happen. I am saying it makes zero sense for a consumer to purchase a Titan 0-5% faster for hundreds (?) more than a 2080ti. Not that it couldn’t happen I just wouldn’t bother waiting for it...

when has cost ever been a factor for those purchasing a Titan? :D

Titan V lol.

I’ve bought Titans but there’s a point for most of us.

Agree... though in fairness I passed on V for reasons more than cost - My guess is we will not see Titan RTX at $1500, I'd say $1,999.99 or more - They have the name, they've never passed up the chance in the past to offer a few cards with full die at max price they can get.

Titan V is the current Titan card, Vega confirmed that the newest drivers unlocked RTX features for his Titan V. So I highly doubt that they will release another card anytime soon.

Did they fix the latency spikes on the Titan V that was reported in first reviews vs the 1080Ti? (Did anyone check for 2080Ti latency spikes?)

If it were following history, they would have Titan Turing now, months before x80Ti.

Think how much it would have reduced online wailing, if NVidia merely called 2080Ti, Titan X Turning instead.

It would have been just like the previous 3 generations (Kepler, Maxwell, Pascal) where an Expensive Titan arriving before x80Ti. Just like the Titan X Pascal was $1200. No one would have batted an eye if there were $1200 Titan X Turing with the similar specs to 2080Ti.

So the question is: why didn't NVidia do that? IMO it's because NVidia has shifted the meaning of Titan. It's no longer for gaming cards. Kepler, Maxwell, and Pascal Titans were all advertised as Gaming cards. But that stopped with Titan V. NVidia started advertising Titan as Compute card.

So I doubt there will be a Titan Turing.

Yeah that's easy, because there's no competition currently. Will this gen last through 2021 before 3000 series?

Nvidia shifted their marketing because they had a use for a consumer volta.

This was a marketing decisions only, very easy to change and not subject to anything else. All it takes is nVidia eyeing the 1500$ segment (if 2080ti demand proves one may exist) and they'll launch one. Maybe they won't call it a Titan, but nVidia knows like the rest of us, there is a halo market for a gaming Titan.

Titan V is current non-gaming card HBM etc... Titan RTX with 12GB GDDR6 with everything enabled is certainly an option for nVidia - And doesn't the RTX 2080 Ti out pace the Titan V (in gaming)? Thought I saw benchmarks somewhere that included Titan V.

All depends on clocks, Titans have headroom and also depends on the driver that is used. Not sure all sites ran a Titan on the latest drivers, so old benchmarks would be lower then what a current Titan V can produce. Nvidia kind of improved it a bit after launch for gaming while still retaining professional uses. Very few sites got their hands on a Titan V due to its costs.

I forget who it was that lent them, but a forum member lent his TV to the [H] team for review. Perhaps they'd be willing once again to see if driver performance has changed things up.

Gamers Nexus had one that they put a decent cooler on. They might do more with it.

I'm going to look through the reviews again, but I didn't really see much about voltage limits and thermals on non-FE cards.

If gamers had half a brain (they don't), they'd completely ignore this round of cards, prices would drop like a rock, and they'd get the clear message that they can't get away with this kind of shit.

Seriously, this launch is Intel CPU levels of boring (hey guys, here's a new generation of hardware that isn't even faster than the last one). Nvidia needs to dump G-Sync and get on board with HDMI 2.1 right now, too. Seriously, I'm not buying another video card if it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 VRR. So both AMD and Nvidia can either deliver or go fuck themselves.

Really, Nvidia's almost opening themselves up for Intel to swoop in and steal this market from them. If Intel comes in supporting all the latest standards and actually has decent performance, I feel absolutely 0 loyalty towards Nvidia. Will dump them without a second thought.

Here's RTX 2080 Ti review that also did Titan V:

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition Review: A Titan V Killer

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-founders-edition,5805-6.html

Summary:

But what if we told you it also beats Nvidia’s Titan V? In Battlefield 1, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is 20% faster. In Forza Motorsport 7, the 2080 Ti enjoys a 22% advantage. Based on the two cards’ specifications, we weren’t expecting such a dramatic finish. Although the $3000 GV100-based Titan V is made for deep learning and not gaming, those results sure put GeForce RTX 2080 Ti’s $1200 price into context.

The Titan V isn't a gaming card.
