with the reference card being a dual fan cooler and a lot of the AIB cards being 2.5-3 slot coolers are we to assume these cards run hot? And maybe use a lot of power? Do we have a rx 290?

Probably seeing as it is such a large chip. Although the voltage is around the same as Pascal. Guess all will be revealed shortly.

Yeah my guess too. I think they also pushing the architecture more this release, bigger chip is also harder to OC.
Saw someone getting a paltry 170MHz clock increase. I guess no one will bitch about the shitty OC headroom (Aka some later AMD cars) because they are fastest solution and muh nvidya, so it's irrelevant all of a sudden lol.

we know nothing about the cooler efficiency, other than they finally got rid of the damn blower.

Know this, it is a 250watt card that probably pulls much more when it boosts, the gpu die size is massive, its using newer faster memory and its in a spot on the motherboard that places it at the worse possible area for air flow (not to mention the physical size blocks good airflow too).

It will be hot.

For the 2080 Ti could the fans stay idle for some modern games at 1080p, 60+ FPS and never dipping below?

I doubt anyone will test that but it gets 130 FPS in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided 1080p.
