2080ti Availability

It's been like this for years. There's always early adopters. When the 1080s, Titan X's, and 980s were released, each of them sold out within 10 minutes of going on sale. I even remember getting the ATI 9700 Pro in the early 2000s, and seeing people state that they couldn't find it for weeks after it's official release.

I ended up getting my 9700pro about a week or two after it came out. I initially bought the 9500, but returned it and bought the full fledged 9700pro cause the performance was so much more of a game changer. It was the first card I owned that I could just max out AA and not even sweat. In all my years of gaming, it was the most impactful graphics card ever released in my opinion, and I've owned sli/cfx every halo card since (even a short foray into the 5970+5870 trifire).

The older cards you could see the difference night and day which made them all that desirable and innovative.

This! The 9700 Pro was just flat out amazing: You got all the new eye candy with FP16 shaders AND performance in one card. I’m kinda thinking the 2080 TI could almost get me the same feeling as I crave ray tracing rendering too (maybe not primed for real time games yet, but definitely for off line 3d rendering).

I got a feeling that the 2080 TI will be in short supply, even their their high price.

$1199 for a video card sight unseen and performance compared to a 1080ti unknown? That's ludicrous. This shit would have to be twice as fast as a 1080ti in VR for me to pay that much for it and we all know it will probably be more like 20% faster in VR if that. I'll spend the money on a week long vacation to the beach since they would be about the same amount.

When I got the 9700pro, it was the first card that just straight up tore through everything. Prior to that the only real card I had bought was towards the end of highschool for Quake 3; a VooDoo3, that was compatible with the family pc's mobo at the time. The drivers were straight up garbage, and had missing textures and realigned textures in a lot of apps and programs through windows, however, it was the first time I was able to seriously game on a pc at home, and even to today I've never forgotten that feeling. Playing half life 1 for the first time cranked up with headphones was just such a momentously different experience than playstation, dreamcast, and n64 at the time. The only thing I would have changed going back would have been to learn more programming languages and geek out even harder.

The 9700pro was a total pantry dropper! It turned my store bought Compaq into a Monstahhh gaming rig.

My senior year in college, I used to work the graveyard shift and would hook up to the company super high speed internet for epic 64 man BF1942 all night long....I never before or since played an online shooter like a total crackhead....and the 9700pro made it all butter smooth

I remember when it dropped my pantry too! I was like, "look at all these snacks!" (sorry :D I know it's a typo)

Yeah, the 9700 Pro was pretty insane. It was my first ATI card actually. I had a Ti4600, which was fairly decent. I knew I was going to skip the dustbuster, so in the name of science I grabbed a 9700 Pro and stuck it in a second machine. I absolutely loved that card. I got a 9800 Pro shortly after for free just before release, by an interesting little chain of events at somewhere that I worked. (final silicon engineering sample from... ...an engineer...) Anyway, good cards. I thought I was ready for Doom 3 to release, but then the X800 slipped out. It was decent, but I wanted D3 to be exquisite, so when the 6800GTs released, I bought a pair of them, and played Doom in SLI.

I think I waited maybe what 3-6 months for the 1070 I got to be readily available. I didn’t want an FE. I got the top of the MSI 1070 set whatever it’s called. I think once the FE preorders ship, we’ll see those come back in stock, then the add-in companies which will all run out quickly. Then a couple more months for stock to fill in?

This gen could either be more difficult to stock quickly or easier though, so who knows. I don’t think I’ve seen this many sight-unseen card preorders for quite a while though...

I just Pre-Ordered the RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 ULTRA GAMING.

I'll take one while you are at it! Cheers

The 2080 TI might be in limited supply for some time with that massive GPU die, especially if the yield doesn’t meet expectations. It is based on a specialized 12nm node, I think.

Just cancelled the XC Ultra for a FTW3. I probably delayed my 2080 Ti's arrival by 2 weeks, but I think it'll pay off with the extra cooling/headroom. That is a MASSIVE cooler on that thing. :)

Strix just announced - Lightning can't be that far behind...why do you guys bother with the "in betweener" cards if you want to pay more for a 2080 Ti?

I switched my preorder from the EVGA RTX 2080 Ti XC Ultra to the FTW3 Ultra!

The RTX 2080 comes off NDA / Embargo the 17th or 18th. We will have a pretty good ideal then of what the performance is. That's when we will have many reviews to pick over.

Like I said, glad I’m not a driver dev @ nV right now. Can you say stress and late nights? It’s only a company’s reputation and hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, lol.

So I’m sure you saw the availability showing 3-4 week’s out on the FTW3. How accurate are eVGAs ETAs? This wait is going to SUCK.

I also have a FTW3 on order as it looks to have the best cooling solution so far. It is the only custom PCB card I've seen besides the MSI Gaming X Trio. Not sure on the MSI's power phases though, but it does have a 8+8+6 pin power plugs versus the FTW3 8+8 and 19 power phases (16 is OEM).

I suspect he didn't get it through a normal order, but I'm sure he won't reveal his source. Hopefully someone will share drivers with him once they're released to reviewers.

I just chatted with EVGA for the hell of it basically said expect 3-4 weeks no matter when you preordered the cards.
Anyone who ordered on August 20th will probably get their cards first. It's not like they have a big stockpile of the stuff out in a warehouse in NJ or New Mexico.

Man I keep missing the pre-order window. Anyone know if Microcenter is going to have in-store stock that isn't preordered?

Microcenter usually has limited stock that you have to be in the store to make the purchase.

Do you think the thicker Heatsink and more powerfull fans will make a difference in Temps? I have the perfect case for the thicker Heatsink with my Bitfenix Shogun airflow isn't the best but it has a bracket to support any extra weight.

Interesting how they cap the plugs on the power. Is there a more powerful variant?

If your airflow is poor in the first place, a larger heatsink or bigger fans on the GPU is not necessarily going to help. In fact, the added mass could hinder airflow further. The heat has to go somewhere and if your box isn't set up to dump it out of your case then only water is going to make it better (or perhaps get the XC and solve the flow with a different fan setup).

All things equal - the XC Ultra will obviously cool better. How much is not yet known.
