I really don't know, but I don't think the white car in the video below is going to do so well in the crash test ratings. In all seriousness, the tech that goes into this fake test car is really cool to see. If any of you have driven a car with some sort of automated driver system, having the guts to allow it to stop itself the first few times is certainly a stress-inducing moment. Not that you should be doing that.

The Global Vehicle Target is the new standard for testing autonomous driving and crash test systems. To cameras and radar, it looks like a car: but if you hit it, it'll fly apart. So if your emergency braking doesn't quite work... well, this is what happens.
 
I'm confused, why didn't they explain why the radar and braking system failed to stop them from hitting it at 40? Seems like they optimised and only planned for the reporters to do 35mph runs or something.
 
cruise shuts off at 40km/h cars made in the 80's worked the same way.

fucking mouth breathers need automated cars.

what the fuck good is the slab of meat behind the steering wheel for these days?

These types of autonomous vehicle programming also considers survivability. I would say all occupants survived.

That was not fully autonomous driving. Notice the driver is actively driving. All that was was emergency braking in the video. To prevent too many false positives the car only enables it at the last second to minimize injury. Which it did in this case.

The entire concept is for autonomous driven cars and cars with automatic safety features. The demonstration was of the later, not the former.

Because it is not a driving feature, it is emergency brake assist, as in it is only supposed to mitigate the damage in an emergency and not relied upon consciously by the driver. "I can drive however I want my car has automated brakes it will stop automatically"

In scenarios that it understands, yes. Should there be something it doesn't understand, as we've seen recently, I'd bet on the meatbag.
 
If cruise control is on, ok, otherwise I want any and all automated braking systems off.

They don't want the collision beep to warn at larger distances cause otherwise it will "annoy the driver"? It seemed that if the guy did'nt slam on the brakes within 0.5 secs he crashed. Maybe I just didn't get what he was saying.
 
Can I get one that looks like a Lamborghini so I can put it in my driveway?

I like the low-profile motorized platform so they can test moving vehicles.
