Corsair SPEC-Omega Mid-Tower Gaming Case Review

The Corsair Carbide SPEC-Omega Mid-Tower Gaming Case comes with what Corsair calls an "asymmetrical, angular, bold and dynamic look" so that you will never confuse it with anything else. Beyond that, we want to know how well it works out for a new build and if can give us enough airflow to keep all our hot hardware nice and cool.
 
Looks ugly as sin, but it does look easy to work with. Generally speaking, I feel Corsair's cases tend to be spacious in the right areas. I've made a few different personal builds and builds for friends and have had good experiences with 3-4 different case models.

I personally do not like about Corsair cases in general, very few of them seem to have dust filtering where they need it, course I am half blind so could be talking out my ass.

I really wish case makers would stop focusing on disco light show RGB crud and "it has to be glass/acrylic/plastic side window" instead of spending the difference of solid panels (with quality paint) or towards extra USB ports or proper dust filtering etc.

once my system is built the last thing I could care about is all the lights inside of it keeping me up at night or distracting me, maybe if I had a liquid cooled system a small window can be useful to keep eye on liquids and such

I like the old "solid" cases, a glass or whatever side panel is just another thing that can get scratched/break which I do not like sound of.. a super durable paint job I would much rather pay the same cost that additional cost of glass panels cost difference vs standard pain solid panel type deal.

Do not like look of this case, even fractal define such as meshify C is ugly AF IMO, nice to make things artsy and all, but when it impedes things like keeping it clean or preventing damage or not able to replace when things break, not good ^.^
 
I don't understand why manufacturers insist on ATX cases that are no good at housing dual GPUs.
Like... what's the point with being able to house ATX mobos, if you aren't going to plug in 2 GPUs?

All that extra case height that could have housed a push-pull radiator setup and it is totally wasted by empty slots.

That drive cage design looks exactly the same as in the 400C. There are actually 2 mounting locations, not just the one. It can be moved forward an inch or so as well which may help a bit with cables, but it still is going to suck and I'm sure wouldn't change the conclusion any.

The SSD holder thing in the back is also straight out of the 400C and gets in the way in terms of cable management.

It's almost like they took a 400C, tossed the internal shrouds, and then changed the front and top, and added the SPEC feet things for good measure.
 
Case reviews, how I have missed thee.

While this isn't a case I am interested in for my next build, it does fall in line with what friends or family may be interested in due to size and price. Seems like a pretty easy to build in case for a basic system.

I do like the charts for the temperatures. I think this is the 2nd review with this chart/layout.

Last but not least, I hope this is a sign that more case reviews are on the way.

Just bought a new Corsair Case, installed Intel system into which was caseless. Anyways it is a great airflow design, spacious to point of kinda wasteful and with zero filtering. Cleaning out the dust bunnies will be periodically required which for this case won't be as hard to do - better if not needed at all. Now the disco lights you may get use to and get a warm fuzzy with the different color lighting - maybe not. I am liking the more cube design, air flow and space. If I build an AMD ThreadRipper 2 system I will probably get a bigger version that support E-ATX motherboards and A/C cool it.

Review was good, hope to see some TR/HEDT case reviews, maybe in combo or conjunction with power supplies. I don't recall [H]ardOCP doing a complete build type review from scratch, probably not [H]ardOCP wayof business. Getting a decent case that will allow adequate water cooling, air flow, CFX/SLI or two GPU configuration for some serious work/gaming, tying the best of the best components together, whatever that will be is turning out challenging finding the right mix.

Thanks for the review. Glad to see that the temps were fairly close in the tests.

Like most, not a fan of these kinds of designs. Many companies using triangle/pyramid colliding look these days. Ironically enough looks aren't usually high on my list either(both by HAF's look like a demilitarized zone) but performance is key and this seems to hit its mark and the price isn't that bad. Love 'em or hate 'em builders have more choices now than they've ever had before so at least there's some diversity.

Can I just say, I am thrilled about the return of case reviews to the H. It's been a while, and now we have two in 4 days!

Yeah, well, the guy that wrote these got put on assignment overseas, so he is gone now. Looking for someone else to write these. :(
 
I normally love Corsair stuff - running a Carbide 540 on my main rig right now - but I guess I must be getting old. It's a little too gamery for me which means it will likely sell well to all the kiddos.
