Battlefield V

Source for the delay:
https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/battlefield/news/an-update-on-battlefield-5#__prclt=xWIFxy0y

So now it's sandwiched between Fallout 76 on November 14 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on December 7! I don't think that is much of an improvement in release window, EA.

Looks more like Call of Duty the way the guy is playing.

Hahaha they might as well keep pushing it back until they find their safe spot. I guess they no longer believe they can go toe to toe with other high profile releases. OR they're adding the ability to take a shit on the battlefield, just like in that new game. :dead:

they're pushing it back because they have very little to lose / preorder numbers have hit rock bottom this time around - imagine doing the same thing back in 2013 when BF4 launched on time, even a single month of delay can cost you a ton of preorder-money

abandon_ship.gif :)

the beta still comes out in a few days. I feel like the hype could die down between beta and release cause its going to be two months now instead of one, unless they let the beta last for like a month. but I don't see that happening.

what if cod blackout br mode is good. people will get hooked on that shit and forget about bfv launching a month later. but if cod players get tired of cod, which happens quickly sometimes. bfv could sell even more copies. we all saw how repetitive the cod beta was. people wont play that crap for more than a month. its up to how good the br mode is weather or not bfv sells.

Its like that in BF1 to. Never understood why.

Is there any benefit pre-ordering months in advance...if anything most people will pre-order it a week before release to take advantage of the only benefit which is playing a few days earlier. It's not like you get golden skins for prosthetics or anything cool for pre-ordering.

Nevermind...you get a bunch of outfits. I'm pre-ordering tonight!

I've never pre-ordered a game. actually I dont think you get much in skins.

these are the pre-order items:

-Pre-order for early access to the Battlefield V Open Beta.
-Pre-order and get one additional Special Soldier Set of paratrooper gear.
-Special Assignments, Test your skills on the battlefield and gain valuable XP.
-Unlock five weapons for immediate use in Battlefield 1.

and thats for pre ordering the standard edition. if you buy the deluxe edition or have origin access you get the pre-order stuff

Yes! :D ...ray-tracing optimization...DICE is adding a few more car hood reflections
This is getting redundant and unimaginative.

Anyway I don't blame the delay, when RDR2 comes rolling into town you might as well just pack up and hide. It's immediate openworld R* predecessor, GTA5, was only the biggest selling entertainment product of all time.

Nitpick Police alert!...saying RDR2 is going to sell well is redundant and unimaginative...

1. Origin needs to go away. Every time I re download it to try out something it's riddled with bugs and annoyances.

Origin isn't perfect, but it is absolutely functional for the purpose. Below-average troubleshooting experience may apply.

EA was voted the worst company in America, and continually backs this election through it's anti consumer practices. The company itself simply needs to change.

And? They do lots of pro-consumer stuff too- as a company that's trying to survive in a shifting environment, I don't rate them too poorly on the business side of things. I'm far more critical with respect to what they do with their various properties, and as a fan of Mass Effect, what they decided not to do.

Battlefield shows a complete lack and unwillingness to allow mod ability. Because...money.

Or support? Mods are cool, but they also inhibit a cohesive online experience. Blending the two on a large scale where competitive play is involved is very tricky. Do you complain about the lack of mods for Overwatch or DOTA2? Remember that DOTA started as a mod!

There is an extremely limited selection of maps, and complete lack and unwillingness to allow moders to create new ones. Because...money.

Or because quality? Problems in maps lead to annoying exploits. They've also committed to expansions being free, which is a significant shift.

Not only is there a lack of modability, but there are Microtransactions INSTEAD of allowing moders to incorporate new skins, levels, etc... Because...money.

...which is how everyone else is doing it. And since the expansions are free, this seems like a fair compromise to those interested in being fair.

There is a rather strange attempt to alter a historic time period with women serving on the front lines with weird cyborg arms. Who thought that was a good idea?

This goes alongside an attempt to ensure that people playing games can see themselves represented, especially in the social setting that is multiplayer. I personally have zero problem with this, as it doesn't in my mind detract to what Battlefield is in multiplayer.

Now, if they focus on female combatants in single-player, that might be worthy of criticism.

EA essentially told anyone who criticized point 6 that they are unwelcome to purchase the game.

If you have an issue with people being represented, then you've crossed over into the xenophobic territory occupied by various hate and terrorist organizations. You don't have to like everyone, but there's no harm in letting them be themselves in their own lives. Holy fuck.

Cost. It's not at all a great value for $60.00.

This is relative. It's actually very much in line with what's been charged for over a decade, and since the value of the dollar has decreased with inflation, it's an even better deal than it was in the past.

There is generally a waiting period for EA games to show up in the EA Access library if you prefer the whole "Renting" scheme. Because...money.

I mean fuck if a company wants to be compensated for their efforts. Did you know that most movie passes don't let you see movies on release day? The horror!

Sure, some of these points are opinions, and some are facts. But they're MY opinions, and EA itself doesn't seem to be helping to improve them.

I don't give EA a pass on their mistakes, which are legion. However, I also recognize their positive efforts. My responses to your manifesto are exactly that.

A "delay" eh? well 3-4 weeks won't help much if at all. lol oh well this is fun to watch with some popcorn. grab your favorite.

trust me guys, arguing over anything EA is not a good use of time. Lets just agree that EA is garbage and needs to go away and move on with life.
ok, just make sure you can give us a replacement when they go away. cause theres not another company that puts out games that look amazing and run great. unless blizzard, but they put out a new game what, every 15 years?

if anyone was curious, bf1 and bfv beta recommended specs are identical.

Except bf1 is not and has not been running great. Check out the ea forums. Often unplayable lag or no connection lately. Game looks and runs great otherwise. I am concerned with being able to play the game online.

Pretty sure that's around standard placement for just about every fps, how many have the weapon dead in the middle of the screen when you're not ADS? The old wolfenstein and doom from the 90's?

I said sideways, not positioned to the right of the screen.

I can't think of any other FPS game that I played that looks like that including BF3/4 or BC2.

Origin isn't perfect, but it is absolutely functional for the purpose. Below-average troubleshooting experience may apply.

Yup. I've had about equal problems with Origin and Steam over the past few years. For a good while Steam lagged far behind in download speeds that it wasn't even funny. EA also got the ball rolling on refunds before Valve did. Origin is good enough and provides some needed competition.

Steam is becoming bloated, forces the friends list pop up at start up, ect. It is going downhill and maybe EA can provide a decent alternative.

If you have an issue with people being represented, then you've crossed over into the xenophobic territory occupied by various hate and terrorist organizations.

Holy shit, did you just compare criticizing a video game's aesthetics with terrorists? Didn't think pointing out the fugly cosmetics and awkward cyborg arms was equal to beheading people in the real world. That was weapons grade retarded, sir.

Not liking the reflex sights either. Yes, I know an unreliable, fragile and worthless prototype or two existed back then. But it just changes the gameplay too much. If they wanted that kind of weapon customization they should have done a different era. Problem is it obscures a lot less of your vision compared to iron sights so if you don't use them you're going to be at a disadvantage.

Funny, but honestly that would be an awesome addition. If we can have the option to turn off the crappy cosmetics I'd be more interested. If they're truly just cosmetic and doesn't affect gameplay I don't see the harm in it. Aside from EA/DICE feeling their cosmetics won't be advertised by other players... which is why it will never be an option.

And we know its feasible because Hardline had a cosmetic hide toggle....

But we know they won't include it in this game, because they want to be "on the right side of history", and of course.....reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Played the beta, so far I don't like it. Feels janky as fuck, and the over saturated color palette is just awful. Squad system also seems to be broken.

Origin isn't perfect, but it is absolutely functional for the purpose. Below-average troubleshooting experience may apply.

Correct, it's -often- functional. It's still a subpar product which is akin to comparing a donkey to a stallion. It does what it does, but it doesn't do it well.

And? They do lots of pro-consumer stuff too- as a company that's trying to survive in a shifting environment, I don't rate them too poorly on the business side of things. I'm far more critical with respect to what they do with their various properties, and as a fan of Mass Effect, what they decided not to do.

I absolutely do rate them poorly for nickeling and diming its community. The lack of pre-orders reflects the community catching on. A good decision does not make 5 bad decisions go away.

Or support? Mods are cool, but they also inhibit a cohesive online experience. Blending the two on a large scale where competitive play is involved is very tricky. Do you complain about the lack of mods for Overwatch or DOTA2? Remember that DOTA started as a mod!

This is why you separate competitive play (ranked) from casual play (unranked). You can certainly have a try-hard, ranked, vanilla experience without mods in a separate category on the main menu. This isn't difficult.

Additionally, it's really -not- tricky. As a software developer, I can assure you that a WELL DESIGNED product will allow you to import maps, weapons, skins, abilities, etc without interfering with the overall engine. If the game, however, is a highly proprietary ILL-DESIGNED product, then yes, I can see why they don't want any modding capabilities.

Or because quality? Problems in maps lead to annoying exploits. They've also committed to expansions being free, which is a significant shift.

See previous comment. If ranked/unranked play separate the modding experience, this is a nonissue. If the map is of poor quality, players will additionally not engage in the map. Again, this is not a difficult problem. I'm glad to hear that Battlefield will be releasing its patches for free this time.

Additionally, I'm of the opinion that adding 5 maps here and there is not an expansion. Releasing something a mod-er could do in his/her free time for free as a AAA company and patting yourself on the back for it is silly. If textures and assets are released to the community, designing a map is a SIMPLE experience with very limited software-development experience required.

...which is how everyone else is doing it. And since the expansions are free, this seems like a fair compromise to those interested in being fair.

Really? Everyone is not allowing for mods and maps? You check out the games on Steam lately? Everyone is most assuredly -not- limiting content.

Well designed products are frequently being released allowing for mods to be imported readily.

I agree, I have no issue with female bionic avatars in a nonrealistic multiplayer experience. From the trailer I witnessed, it appeared it will be more of a single player addition. Perhaps I'm wrong. Please correct me if I am.

The whole "suck it up buttercup" attitude of EA when addressing it and directly advising its community "If you have a problem, just don't buy the game" pretty much tells a political tale, not a historic one.

Are we going to additionally suggest that Jews didn't get killed by the Germans because it might offend the Jewish community? Also, I think the blind community is feeling left out. Let's have a blind RAF squadron. It'll show we're being open minded. Also, let's put the German soldiers in pink miniskirts because some "identify as female" and we definitely want to include them in on history.

Yea...keep history as history, and feel free to POINT OUT mistakes in philosophy. Don't do the disservice if de-educating the youth playing the game that the mistakes never occurred. That's dangerous, and I will have no part of it.

If you have an issue with people being represented, then you've crossed over into the xenophobic territory occupied by various hate and terrorist organizations. You don't have to like everyone, but there's no harm in letting them be themselves in their own lives. Holy fuck.

That's some silly, extremeist, liberal hogwash. "I hate your political stance, so I label you a hate group". You do that.

Xenophobic -
adjective
  1. having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.

We're not talking about racial dislike, we're talking about historical representation of women. I assure you, there was plenty of Xenophobia in WW2 to go around. Even that, however, should stay in the game, as it shows the various mistakes we/they made during the war.

Equality in the workplace/everywhere else is perfectly fine. Rewritting history to make people equal is not. You cannot learn from mistakes by ignoring them.

As an individual in an interracial marriage with mixed children, I find your inappropriate labeling of my view as grossly misinformed.

This is relative. It's actually very much in line with what's been charged for over a decade, and since the value of the dollar has decreased with inflation, it's an even better deal than it was in the past.

Sure, I'll concede this point. However, as I advised in my previous post, it is my opinion that $60 is a price tag for this neutered game. Until I am persuaded that the game is worth $60, it will remain as my opinion.

I mean fuck if a company wants to be compensated for their efforts. Did you know that most movie passes don't let you see movies on release day? The horror!

I don't give EA a pass on their mistakes, which are legion. However, I also recognize their positive efforts. My responses to your manifesto are exactly that.

Literally everything I see and hear about EA is not a positive effort. I see corporate greed and anti consumer behavior at its worst. I see an unwillingness to change said behavior for a solid decade.

I respect most of your opinions listed below (Apart from the whole "You're part of a hate group" rant. I lost a few brain cells there, but based on your political stance, yea I see why you have the opinions you do. You were probably just brought up that way.). But the greed EA expresses is needless, and a truly great, complex, modifiable game should NOT be scoffed at as though it is a cash sink by the company.

Ironically, the beta feels like its in a worse state than the alpha.

Dice really cut the balls off tanks in this game, they changed the turret rotation speed so it's incredibly easy for infantry to walk up and dance around your tank slapping tnt on it while you try and shoot them with a slow moving turret (main gun or coax gun really makes no difference). There's a third person speed which is faster (though generally not fast enough to keep up with infantry), first person is so slow its a joke.

Turning up sensitivity makes no difference.

This game has the dumbest menu I've ever seen in my life. You have to click "More" just to show 2 more things... one of which is the options menu.

Like honestly they couldn't fit 1 more item so they really needed an entire extra screen???

Who designed this thing

Mouse limitations notwithstanding, this actually looks like the most realistic thing about this game :ROFLMAO:.

UI has never been DICE's strong point but between this and BF1 I've got to ask who the fuck approves this type of design?

Also god damn do the medic guns have crazy damage falloff. I hit someone in the head twice across a point and did like 52 damage. Plinking at people in the distance, I was hitting them for like 4...

I get what they tried to do with the resupplies and shit, but I'm not sure I like having to stock up every time I kill 2 people.

Game hates my PC. First time launched and ran to a capture point and crash. Second time launched game and locked up my PC. Third time launched and played around in menus, but then joined game and locked up PC.

Man, this game really isn't doing it for me. After binging 5 hours, it still feels like BF1 with some new weapons and mechanics that are somehow more obnoxious than fun.

Also the STG is basically the best gun in the game, excelling essentially everywhere. He who wields it shall become death incarnate. Pick it up as a medic and marvel as you go from hitting people 8 times at medium range without a kill to killing everyone in 1 burst.

"Balance"

I watched a few videos from the closed beta where people were optimistic, and I haven't heard that same level of optimism now that we're approaching the open beta.

Finally played some tonight and pretty much confirmed this one isn't for me. I just don't find it fun.
