Battlefield V on PC to Include Profanity Filter

The US Marines recently relieved a sergeant for using the word "faggot" in some speech... so I guess EA is on to something.

There was a time when you could successfully use team chat to help your team by sharing information.
Something has to be tried and although a wide profanity filter is a blunt tool, it can help if there's some effort put into how it operates.

some groups are allowed to say certain words because it is considered a brotherly connotation while other groups will be eviscerated for it. Take the 'n' word for instance in America.

will they ban everyone who uses it , or will they ban base on communal context?

and if they can implement a global filter, why not implement an opt-in auto *beep* instead?

How childish do you need to be to be upset you can't type curse words in a game you didn't put an ounce of work into.
Jesus soy boy shit right here.

Overwatch has the ability to do that and it's awesome. People literally yelling in their mics or making non-stop monkey sounds the whole match because they were playing Winston? Ridiculous. They even have a toggle for chat profanity so I don't have to read dribble, but still communicate with the team. Mute specific players....Bravo Dice!

Ok, now this is some scary shit. Limiting FREEDOM OF SPEECH in a video game? These liberal lunatics are slowly turning this country into nazi germany

That's sarcasm, right? Or a joke?

I hope so, otherwise it makes no sense.

EULA , its not your software, so they can do what ever they want to your speech up to banning so.... Yeah..

They bend to the masses and I for one would like a open line of communication to coordinate attacks instead of spamming profanity.
To each their own

The last time I ever bothered to mic up for a game was back in the Gears 3 days. That was some fun times, but holy hell the things I heard screamed at me by kids can not be unheard.

To paraphrase, I recall being referred to as a black person's johnson loving homosexual squishy semen repository. Or something like that. It just went on and on and I finally had to figure out how to mute the idiot... but it was basically all of them. Solution... unplug the headset.

Indeed. BF3 upped the shooting skill and then BF4 upped it again. BF1 then went in the opposite direction. I suppose the precise shooting was lost on anyone using a gamepad.

I'll guess you didn't play anything prior to BF2142...because Bf3 and 4 most certainly did not up anything in respect to "skill".

Posting here is as close I ever get to officially complaining about anything digital. That being said, they are catering to a base "OFFICIALLY" not supported by it's age restriction. Which just shows they do not care if 10yr olds play the game. Do they really think it will help? Like it is better to see Sh*t than Sh...it.

BF2 had shitty, floaty mechanics and obscene weapon spread. Guns had ~300 MOA. The game took so much control from the player when it came to shooting it was a joke. BF3/4 blows that turd out of the water when it can to weapon realism and skill.

Rose tinted glasses and all that, but back in 2005 BF was the mainstream, joke game that we all pointed fingers and laughed at. 3/4 upped the quality a lot. Now they're regressing. But DICE is over rated, and BC2 (fun, very consolish) and 3/4 were their few decent offerings. Everything else Battlefield has been "meh". BF4 had shitty bugs for a good while but once patched it works pretty well.

I like how people jump to the snow flake excuse for wanting to ban racist comments and threats of IRL assault.

I don't mind banter or swearing but certain people need to get kicked to learn there is a line and crossing it has consequences .

Its hard enough playing with headphones in the first place. Mute and chat ban. rachet the penalty up.
24 hrs, 48hrs, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 6 months then perma chat ban.

I don't think you understand... It's a matter of freedom and control.
They are taking away community control, and arbitrarily setting nanny state on certain words... I guarantee this won't stop people from being shitheads and typing racist shit around filters. A filter will never replace private server admins.

So with all due respect... your eyes are brown and you smell of pasture.

Ballistics, shot placement, accuracy, in BF3, and subsequently four, blow every previous offering out of the water.

Second inssue, as others have said, DICE is succumbing to their Swedish, aka liberal, roots and becoming a bit too PC.

The new Rainbow 6 Siege update today finally adds the ability to mute in game text chat for individual players. Before only voice was able to be muted.
Online gaming is so much more toxic than it used to be.

It's like gamers are angrier and unhappier than ever. That lashing out is just symptomatic of tortured individuals - anxiety and stress. It's all an expression of weakness.

You are confusing game polish with player skill. The less polished a game and the more physics problems it has and BF2 certainly had plenty of those, the more individual skill it requires to execute at a high level. BF3/4 require much less player skill to execute at a high level than anything previous. Your response actually reinforces that point.

See above.

People talk like the Battlefield series is a "mil-sim"...lol
It's an arcade shooter and has never been anything else...lol again.

I like the idea. Personally I wish more games would have them, even in the single player campaigns. I don't use profanity, and I don't like hearing or reading profanity. I tolerate it, especially in public forums, but what for me would be an otherwise good entertainment experience is spoiled by the infusion of constant profanity. Give me the option to turn it off or at least tone it down in the game, and I will enjoy it much more.

I gave up playing multiplayer games like BF when I I told my teammates I didn't use teamspeak (Can't remember the game) as it's useless for me as I'm hard of hearing. I got kicked for that.

In the (way) old days, this wasn't a problem as everyone used chat/text macros which I could read.

Goodbye multiplayer...

Kind of wish we could go back to maybe 6-10 (Function keys?) that were predefined such as "Enemy on left!" "Enemy on right!" etc....

Find teammates that aren’t dickbags.

Sorry I got better things to do....like actually play good games that don't have dependencies on complete strangers not being dickbags. In reality that is a weakness in the game IMHO.

Example: Serious Sam co-op seems to have a pretty friendly/useful playerbase IMHO. I've had good luck there, but it's been a while...

Well... if I get it I am going to play with my World of Warships buddies. I am sure you can find a few good souls on [H]. But yeah, if you don’t think it’s a good game then don’t bother.

I hate these profanity filters. I don't cuss, as a general rule, but my screen name is Pwncake Ironfarts. 9 times out of 10, farts is considered profanity. Why, in 2018, is the word "fart" a bad word?

My go to alternative is FerriteFlatulence. Never blocked.

It isn't but they assume such an account name is created by a 11 year old and that age range is restricted from play in most online games. :p
