U.S. consumers spent $19.5 billion on video games in the first half of 2018 with $16.9 billion coming from a 43% increase in video game content sales according to The NPD Group. Hardware sales increased by 21% to $1.7 billion which is a 7-year high. Not to be outdone, accessory sales increased 41% with headsets and headphones doubling in sales.

"Video Game industry spending in the U.S. showed strong growth in the first half of 2018, with content sales driving performance across all platform segments including mobile, console, portable, and PC," said Mat Piscatella, games industry analyst at The NPD Group. "Hardware and accessories also reflected strong performance, while the evolving segment of subscription spending has experienced an accelerated growth rate. I maintain an optimistic outlook for the remainder of 2018, thanks in part to the strong lineup of titles set to be released in the fourth quarter. This, combined with continued strength in hardware and accessory spending, should result in double-digit annual percentage gains for the total market."

So they made better games and sold more? But I thought that piracy caused poor sales, and if they made better games they would sell fewer. hmm ;)

I
Are these actual sales of the game themselves or micro-transaction type revenue?
It says 16.8 billion ingame content sakes

It would of been 20 billion if it wasn't for those damn pirates.

Freaking sad.
I guess these are my last years of being a 'gamer' of any sort.
I will not join the bullshit of micro transactions in endless games, and all the bullshit.
They can go screw themselves... them and all the billions that prove me wrong, and them right over and over and over year after year after year.

OK. Well I finally bought Doom at $10. It got cheap enough, I still have Rage. ;)

I dunno man. There has been a huge influx of absolutely stellar games containing absolutely 0 microtransactions in recent years.

Pretty sure I've spend around $100-150 in the last two years. Not much catches my interest anymore.

Done. You should too.
I guess you called my bluff. I wasn't actually expecting someone to advocate for the removal of essentially all of human culture. With a view like that, I have no idea what your own personal situation is, but I think it's safe to say I'm certainly not envious of it.

Working, making cash, but mostly just trolling here...

People can do whatever they like. I just have zero time for video games these days and every time I play one there’s a voice in the back of my head telling me I should be doing other things, like fixings things around the house, cleaning, learning something productive etc.

Anyway, have fun.
