All ultra settings at 1920x1080. Youtuber is bound by the NDA and cannot reveal performance numbers, but says it was well above 60 FPS. Caveat is that he was only using an hFOV of 70. Looks like they turned down some of the shininess that was actually probably turned up for the onstage demo. It looks pretty damned impressive to me.

One would hope a new flagship card would be able to run a game at 60 fps at 1080p with all settings maxed, but the truth is already there when he had to turn down the FOV. That is frankly does not bode well for these cards and pretty much tells you anything less then a TI and ray tracing will be useless to you.

Really going to depend both on the player and the game. Part of the challenge is that only newer AAA titles will likely be getting ray tracing support, though I can still see many people running single-player with it on and then turning it off for multi-player.

I'm sure it will run 4K 60+ FPS without ray tracing. As has been said ad nauseam, ray tracing is a very expensive process. It still remains to be seen how the 2080 and 2070 run with ray tracing, but one shouldn't expect to run a game with all eye candy in certain situations with a 1070 and the same principle should hold with the 2070.

Ray tracing makes 1080p the new 4K.

That being said it looks nice, see glass reflection at 2:06, but I found the gameplay boring when compared to BF4. So far BF5 is still is a pass for me.

One of the big things for me is the clear delineation between dark areas and bright areas. When you're running out from between buildings or under bridges and seeing how bright it is outside of the shade is one of the major wow factors my brain reacts to.

ray tracing will be turned on for single player games but for multiplayer games saving frames by turning it off will probably be the way to go.

Sure, if you are of the mistaken belief that miliseconds count while playing an online game that has a 20 tick rate. It doesn't matter if your client is running at 200 FPS when the server is running at one-tenth that speed.

You heard it here first folks, there's no benefit at all to playing an online game above the tick rate. The human eye can't see above 24hz anyway.
I didn't say there is no benefit. Of course the motion clarity will make it easier on the client, but I simply mean that a high FPS isn't going to give you a real advantage in online competition when the server is making the decision on who got shot first.

The benefit that I see (and take advantage of) is that you (the client) have more awareness. Better for aiming and the like.

That's actually a myth. There is studies showing the human eye may actually see 500Hz or higher.

Yeah, maybe it is just bad video compression but it doesn't even really look better than CS:GO. Probably bad compression.

I'm glad I found a new hobby just in time for the new 2080 release! Yup.. I'll wait a year or 2 for real cards to hit . Or maybe the next gen the can do the new tech at 4k.

FoV isn't really a graphical setting (and 70 is the default for BF) so it doesn't mean anything. It can both improve and reduce performance at the same time (zooming in on stuff can decrease performance but zooming out and having more things to display can decrease it too). Think about the dramatic effect of looking close at fire/smoke in many games, while it's completely fine if you're a bit further away.

But yeah, I can't get excited about 60fps @ 1080p on a multiplayer shooter. I'm sure it will run superbly without ray tracing though so until we get beefier GPUs I'll be having fun that way I suppose.

I'm thinking at least 2 generations to see if ray tracing catches on and is actually worth turning on. I'll be holding on to my Titan XP for a lot longer than I originally thought.

I don't think it's an option for ray tracing to catch on - it's a standard, it's the dream tech of all game designers...we just need time for the cards to make it wow worthy. I watched 2:30 of that video and wasn't impressed...not the greatest example of all the tech, IMO...and as someone else said above, game looks boring AF. I miss < / = BF4...since BF1 there's something "off" about Battlefield to me.

But yeah, I think a lot of people are going to stand pat this gen (at least versus past one) - because so far it is looking like the 2080 and 1080 Ti are around the same in standard games and then there's that 2080 Ti price tag...

EDIT: seems "fishy" that the video is still up despite NDA - must be an orchestrated leak?

Hopefully this game does not have a 20 tick rate. That is abysmal and I've seen it in action in garbage games like pubg. I know BF has recently been using higher tick rate servers though.

Looks cool, but there is a ton of LOD pop-in in that video.

Also, other than the reflections (which admittedly are cool) I'm not really seeing a huge improvement in fidelity from ray tracing. Maybe it's just because there's no side-by-side.

Watched about the first three minutes. Not as "shiny" as some of the other videos, but still way too much wax polish surfaces to feel "realistic." I might try the game out, but I don't think I'll be missing out too much not having an RTX card for the gloss effects!

Exactly this. I love new tech and I love trying to push the limits. But using RTX to getr 1080p 60hz is not my idea. If anything that seems like a downgrade for a lot of people. Not saying the 2080ti isn't going to be a beast....I Guess this is what happens when your only competition is your last generation of cards.

Going from 0FPS on a 1080Ti in ray tracing to 1080p60 on a 2080Ti is a downgrade?

If you watch the video in here DICE expects at least another 30% as they optimize it further. So that’ll bring them to 60-70FPS at 1440p.

They also want to try and make it so you can render at different resolutions. Like use 4k, but the RT will be at 1080p or 1440p which is still VASTLY better than the current method in both labor and visuals. Then you can have high 4k framerates.

It’s like all this 1080p/60 bitching was for nothing... didn’t see that coming.

Maybe your eye. I play on a 240 hz panel.

My kill rates skyrocket in fps games at 144 to 240 hz.

And I can see the difference. Our eyes do not see in frames. Our brains do not process slices like photos. We see a steady flow of information that is a stream of non stop data.

I HATE this online bullshit about how many frames our eyes can see.

It's partially my fault for not using the embarrassing "/s" qualifier, but I'll also blame you for not seeing the post above I was replying to. I was not being serious and making fun of the 20hz tickrate poster. I also have a 240hz panel and even in 60hz tickrate games I can find benefit at playing at 240hz over 144hz. Input lag and visual fidelity are real things even if the tick rate doesn't support them.

Agree here, especially if delivered performance is higher. I guess my point with 1080p60 is to remind detractors that the alternative is literally nothing!

My comment wasn’t really aimed at you. I just quoted you since I thought you’d be interested. Yeah, the 2080ti is still by far the fastest gaming card on the planet even if you completely ignore the RTX features.

Sorry I can't believe marketing at all. I plan to wait to see real results. Anything Dice or Nvidia says is pure bullshit right now.

That’s a better approach than the negative circle jerk that’s been going on. I am not buying til after launch and reviews.

What if all the 1080p not 60fps ray-tracing is a brilliant marketing ruse by Nvidia?

Come September, they will show up with games running in full 4K ray-tracing and blow everyone's mind...

Not gonna happen. But how good would it be. Would certainly silence all the negativity about Ray Tracing.

Sorry, I did not see anything amazing in that video. Sure it looked good, but next level good? Nah

I think it looked good and I can see it in the puddles but if you said this game was on a 1080 and didn’t have ray tracing turned on I would’ve believed you. It didn’t look that amazing.
