Cyberpunk 2077: Official Thread

Looks like every other shooter...

I do agree that the gameplay video doesn't look all that original or mindblowing...I'm guessing if people watched the video not knowing it was developed by CDPR then it would not be as hyped up...people are expecting big things based on the developers pedigree more so then any gameplay footage

Game looks good for being 2 years away from release. I got a lot of Deus Ex vibes from watching it, I just hope it holds up to the hype in the end. I do wish the demo was done in 4K as it looked pretty blurry being 1080p gameplay. Them having settings turned down as well shows how unoptimized it is at this point. Gonna try to avoid spoilers, will probably watch another gameplay demo closer to release.

There were some things I liked, some I didn't.

From what was show, this out-Deus-Ex's Deus Ex, if you know what I mean.

Same vibe I got.. Witcher 3 wasn't exactly a gameplay marvel. Not expecting miracles from this game either.

Coming from the person who has a history of defending and lavishing praise on Ubishit for the cookie cutter recycled trash it ejaculates out every 12 months for each of its major IPs, I find this observation mightily amusing. /chortle

48 minutes of Gameplay from official Cyberpunk 2077

Looks pretty good I mean The Surge does it just as good but I prefer the cleaner style like. the Deus EX series I mean I was blow away by how clean Human Revolution looked. Basically it looks like a big Sandbox game I mean GTA V where anything goes but usually stay away from those games.

I don't know what any of the naysayers are talking about. This game looks incredibly good so far. Oh well. I personally can't wait for this to hit. I guess go back to your EA, Ubisoft, and Activision BS. This sort of game just isn't for you maybe.

Edit: The game world looks alive. You may not like the style, but it looks good. The geometric detail is nice and high, all of the people are doing their own things, the lighting looks decent. It looks like what games like Omikron, Deus Ex, etc. SHOULD have looked like if they COULD have when they came out. Saying this doesn't look good just makes me think one is trying to be that "edgy" guy that never thinks anything looks good. There were people like this with Doom even and that game looks absolutely gorgeous. I always wonder what people are comparing things to. It even looks better than games like Hard Reset that were all about their visuals.

So what makes this game different then say Fallout 4 which is also set in the future? I don't know personally because it's not out for two whole years =P

Yes, I typically have quite the decision process when responding to a certain person. :D This time I caved.

Right cause cdprojekt hasn't made the same recycled games... for the past 10 years.. But hey they finally have a new IP... They get a pass now right?

Stop jumping on bandwagons man.. You embarrass yourself.

Cyberpunk looks great... I will be buying it.. so you can relax.

They made a series of three games. Bethesda has been making the same game since Arena. Slightly different. I don't even dislike Bethesda's games, but they're definitely not quite the same thing.

It's kind of like comparing either the Wasteland games or the original Fallouts to the new Fallout 3 and up games. (roughly I admit)

And, IMO yes, this new property IS something to get excited about. However, you're entitled to your opinion. If it's not exciting to you, then it's not.

It's a thread about a game that a lot of people have been waiting for though. You have to expect some degree of enthusiasm.

I plan to get it.. and I was replying to a post where someone said the same thing I did.. But Blade-Runner likes to pick on me cause I don't jump on his reddit bandwagons.

I noticed the addition to your thread after I posted most of my response. Sounds like most of the people in this thread are excited for the game. (minus the odd complainster...) :D

Since some people are trying to avoid spoilers (in which case this thread is going to become an increasing minefield) all I will say is holy shit. I liked the E3 trailer but it didnt convey how playing the game would actually feel. My hype is at 11 now. The density of the world and the street crowds, the character creator, the heavy Bladerunner influence to the environments and architecture, this game is going to be a milestone.

Almost immediately it clicked why the game is taking so long to produce, there is so much detail everywhere that had to be fleshed out.

This feels like the videogame equivalent of a half million dollar Supercar, like if you've ever been up close to or sat in a Bugatti, Koenigsegg, etc - there's that unmistakable sense of high quality that oozes from every detail. And it looks alien, because we're used to most cars being built to look a certain bland and assembly-lined way.

The gameplay trailer looks incredible. I'm blown away by how lifelike it appears. If you think this game is just "more of the same" from CDPR, you probably lack imagination. I'm also hyped for a great game from one of my all time favorite devs.

That said, I think the final version won't include many of the gameplay features we saw in the trailer. It's likely to be scaled down to run well on consoles. I don't think riding bicycles will make the final cut. Just my prediction.

game looks really really good. but I wish it would have 3rd person. whats the point of making a sexy cyborg chick if you cant watch her ass jiggle, right?! ;) I actually just prefer 3rd for some reason, some fp games makes my eyes hurt.

:D There is that. I guess you'll just have to get between a couple of mirrors and walk back and forth a bunch. :p I prefer first person for this sort of thing, but I never mind third person games that were designed with that in mind either. For something where I want to "live" the environment though, I think first makes the most sense. I wouldn't be opposed to the option of mouse-wheeling out to third person like a Bethesda game of course, though I think the people who would just automatically do that by default, might lose some of the impact of the game. Up to them though really.

the skepticism was warranted with Doom...turned out to be an amazing game but I don't blame anyone for being careful with that...as far as Cyberpunk...too many people fall into the same trap...just because people criticize something about a trailer/game etc doesn't mean they hate it...everything is not a 10 or a 0...there are plenty of degrees in between...with games people seem to think you either love it or hate it...no that's not the way life works...there are people who love every game from the moment it's announced and those who hate (plenty of both in these forums) but most people are smarter then that

Cyberpunk is most likely going to be an excellent game but most of that is based on the pedigree of the developers...gameplay looks very good with great world-building but it doesn't look like some revolutionary game-changer (based on the footage they released thus far)...again that doesn't mean the game sucks...an 8 or 9 game is still an excellent game...if people are being honest they will tell you that it's CDPR that's getting the real love here and not the gameplay footage itself...

If we're being honest, there's not much room for "game changers" in this industry. Studios know what works now. They know their audiences (if they're smart). These guys are among the more stand-up, do it because we can, and because it's cool types, but even they have to make something that enough people want to play for it to pay off.

So, I don't compare this to something 100% innovative, unique and different that changes the way we all view video games. No. I rate it a little easier. It looks like an amazing iteration on convential gaming technology in one of my absolute favorite genres, from a company with an excellent track record, and while personal taste will move this a point or three in any direction for this or that person, I already know this game is going to be a 9 or 10 of 10 for me. I don't have to worry about it.

I knew this with Doom as well, despite everyone's worrying, hating, (some justified, some absolutely asinine). I could easily see it was shaping up to be something I'd love from the first time I saw play footage. I think we could go back and look at my early posts in the thread, and infer that I was an absolute id Software fan-bitch (and we'd be correct :D ) but... In the end... I was fucking right. So...

Thing is, I know what I'll like. Sure there's a 4% chance that Cyberpunk could be an absolute catastrophe and the one that ruins CDPR completely, and ruins all the faith we all have in them. I'm not going to worry about that though, because it's not going to happen. The absolute worst they could do, given what we know, and can project is that they produce an 8 of 10 game for the average Joe. I'm not the average Joe either though, and know without a doubt that I'll absolutely love this game. And, I'll be correct about that.

Some people like to fret and worry. Some like to pick shit apart. Some like to look "cool" by saying how bad something obviously good will be. Some people have reasonable doubts and expectations. Some are fans. Some are blind with fanism. Some, like me, just let things roll, try to be positive until there's a solid reason to be negative, and use a little common sense when looking at something. Even something subjective. Also, I'm not saying anyone in this thread is any of these things (though I've seen one or two). Just trying to point out that my opinions are based on my own points of view, and that I'm 99% sure that in my own case that I will always be right about something that I think I'm going to like. :D

yes but you've admitted that you fall into the trap of falling for a game no matter what based on the pedigree of the developer...you've already made up your mind that you're going to love it and any bit of news or gameplay footage is just going to get you to rationalize why it will be amazing...not the ideal way to look at things...I admit I'm like that with From Software but I can be impartial...I was not totally loving their new Sekiro game based on early footage but I'm coming around more with their latest reveals (and by not totally loving I mean I normally am hyped to the max for any From game but with Sekiro early on I was at a 8.5)

and I do think that there can still be game-changers in any industry

I've never "fallen into a trap". Period. I have never once bought a game that I just knew was going to be excellent, and then found out that it wasn't. Even when everyone and their mother's dog was bitching about RAGE in the first few days, instead of bitching, I pulled out my ATI card, drove my ass down to Frys, and picked up a 460 or 560 (whatever was the card of the time in that range) went home and enjoyed the hell out of it. I also freely admit that it was shitty for ATI users to have had to deal with that in the first place from a top tier dev like that. But, you know, I got on with things, fixed the problem for me, and enoyed it.

If I for one second thought the game sucked (and it did have some flaws) I'd be right out there saying, "I wish they'd fix this shit". From my perspective, the game ended too abruptly, had some fairly crappy indoor textures in some places, but overall was a very enjoyable experience for me. I had a blast with it. I probably have 100 total hours in it over the years, just dicking around (only played through all the way twice). I'll just hop in and shoot things for a bit, and hop back out, and still have fun playing a few missions now and then.

If I have serious doubts about a game, I'll wait and see what people think first. Once in a while I'll grab something on total impulse, but even those have turned out well. Maybe I'm just extraordinarily lucky. Probably not though. I just tend to see how things are going, put a little trust in people that have never steered me wrong, (until such time as they do) and get on with my life. I don't have time to be overly critical of things.

There have been a few times that I was disappointed by a game, but it wasn't because it was a bad game. I was pretty disappointed when I got home with Strike Commander and found out that I could barely play it on my computer. But, the game was still amazing. I traded some stuff I had on hand and went out and bought a faster 486 and a faster VLB card. :D Then I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I've got over 300 games in Steam, and I like all of them. There are a few that I haven't gotten to, or that I could only play so much, but I don't hate any game in the library. (except that I bought Daikatana for like $1 as a joke a while back just to say I owned it) :D

Hey, I already know that I will absolutely LOVE Doom Eternal. However, let's say it releases as total broken garbage, I can't play it well at all, id does nothing to fix it, it's 100% obvious that they've given up, and don't have any intention to do anything about it. I'll jump right in there with everyone else and wave a torch around, maybe throw a pitch-fork. That's when you'll see me pick something apart. But, you know what? That's not going to happen. I already know that. :p

I also have that sense about games and companies that I don't like. I actually kind of like the first Assassin's Creed game. It was newish, a bit different, looked nice, etc. It wasn't amazing, but it held my attention long enough for my gamble on a new property to pay off for me. I knew that any of them after that though wouldn't hold my attention. Not that any of them were really worse than the first one that I know of, but I just knew I wouldn't get much more enjoyment out of it. So I never bought another one. These days I view Ubisoft as a joke. Just pushing out the same thing constantly, all this talk of streaming only, etc. They're everything about a game publisher (and several studios) that I dislike. I just plain know that I won't really enjoy most of what they have to offer, (except maybe a new 2D Rayman game, the Flashback remake, and that black/colorful platform game that I can't remember the name of. Overland or something like that maybe?)

I just now what I like, and who I can trust to keep doing things the way I either like or dislike.

There's always a chance they could throw me, but that sense has served me well.

Cyberpunk... I'm saying it now... 10/10 for me. :D

RAGE is still not that well regarded overall...I enjoyed it but the vast majority of people still don't consider that game to be anything amazing...people have come around to it more after picking it up for cheap during Steam sales but it's not on the mantle of iD Software's top games...you were going to love RAGE no matter what...you said you have 300 games and like all of them...meaning any game you buy you will love...and RAGE did have performance issues in the beginning that took a few patches to fix (I remember pop-in being a big thing in the early days)

No, I'd agree that it's not their absolute best, and I don't think my opinion matches that of the majority a lot of the time. But I sure enjoyed the living hell out of it. It was just an example.

Hey, I loved No Man's Sky from the day of release. You made quite a bit of fun of me for it too if I remember correctly. :D But then, I knew I would like what it had to offer from the start. And it keeps paying off now with all the new updates.

I'm not saying that I don't have the capacity to be wrong about things. I'm wrong about things all the time. I've just never been wrong when I thought I'd like a certain game, flaws and all, and then got it based on what I knew of it. My projections are pretty spot on for my own tastes. It's a good thing I'm not superstitious. I could have just doomed Cyberpunk to ruin by pre-rating it 10/10. :ROFLMAO:

I never make fun of any person for loving any game...I may not agree with their opinions and I usually spell out the reasons why I don't think a game is worth buying in its current state...NMS had tons of issues at launch (boring repetitve gameplay loop, same old planets with different color schemes, horrible end-game, Sean Murray misled people about multiplayer etc...basically the game felt devoid of life...billions of empty planets)...they have improved things immensely but it's easy to say 'look at me I loved No Man's Sky from the beginning' after they release the NMS: Next expansion...I bet you were not so open in your love for the game in the months after release when Sean Murray went into radio silence...in fact I'm sure you did not post much at all in that thread until news of the expansion came out so you could say 'see I told you the game was great and that Murray would fix the game'

What I liked about the gameplay was that it feels right to me as a fan of the genre and source IP. What I didn't like is that it seems like enough of the character movement and action is scripted to be more cinematic than I prefer. I get that it's an RPG and not an action game though. That's just my preference. This is coming from someone that appreciated Witcher 3 but didn't actually like the gameplay due to character movement and action to action feel etc but really enjoyed the story and world.

Fine with the first person for the obvious reasons and it looks like the right overall decision for the character perspective they seem to have been going for. Wish it looked like it felt more like an FPS in the same world though. I was likely a day one purchase regardless due to a love of the genre and source as well though so grains of salt and all that.

First, yes, you made more fun of the game than me. We just differed on what looked good or not. I grabbed some videos of what it looked like for you or something like that. It was all in good fun. :D

I think you'll find that I was pretty fair in my judgment of the game, but that I still stood by my assessments from release until now. It had some flaws. It had a few shortcomings. I was pretty fair in what I thought happened with Sean, too much media coverage, too many expectations, Sony, etc. I actually don't really think he "lied" either. I think he had lofty ambitions that had to be curtailed, and shit happened. He didn't deal with it properly initially. However, he just shut up, got to work, and started fixing shit. I always liked the product though, but then, I'm pretty easy going. If something truly sucks, I'll say it, but if I can find some quality in something that I like, I'm usually pretty happy.

I can see that. My preference would be that all first person games handled like Doom 2016 or Quake 3 Arena for that matter. But, I can be pretty forgiving at the same time. I can hop right into something floatier like Borderlands and adapt. I'm with you though. First person games of any kind should be snappy, precise, and feel like a game.

Yep, although I do like a bit more float as you put it than Doom style; I don't like the things like "press X" to sit down and then there's a slow feeling sitting animation (which probably isn't "slow" at all, it just feels that way due to perspective and the normal twitchiness of First Person). It's jarring to me. I'm perfectly willing to withhold real judgement until I play it though. Reminds me of all the quick-time sections of a fight that used to be popular. There's some kind of inherent disconnect I experience and breaks immersion for me personally.

if a game is great I will love it no matter what others think...I do enjoy the Fallout series, Tomb Raider reboots, I love the Arkham series (even when Arkham Knight was pulled from retail I was a fan of the broken game :D ) etc...but on the other end if a game is disappointing or worse I'm going to say it...but I will always admit when a game improves or gets substantially better or exceeds my initial expectations...Doom exceed my expectations...I didn't think iD would be able to deliver another amazing Doom game that wasn't just a nostalgia fix like Duke Nukem Forever...I didn't think they would be able to keep the fun core gameplay while evolving into a 2016 version of itself...I admit No Man's Sky got better...it's still not at the level of me wanting to buy it but I'm glad to see Sean Murray and crew address a lot of the concerns

Yeah. I agree. I adapt really easily though, so things like the animation just slide right by me after a while. It's easy for me to lose myself in a game. Maybe it's an overactive imagination, dulled senses, both... :D However, given a choice, I like less controls, context sensitive, I don't like being pulled out when possible, etc. I'm just able to get over it if a game is still good, but has some of those unfortunate side effects.

Oh, I'll freely talk about anything I see that could be better. If something is bad, but still good in some ways (like say a B movie) I'll typically side on the enjoyable side of it. In the case of Doom, I was pretty sure it would be stunning from the start though. I could tell that the devs really wanted to return to what they were known for, and I could see it and hear it when they spoke about it. The tiny snippets of footage we got here or there cemented it. I even thought the initial multiplayer (while obviously not up to the standards that I would expect of id) was pretty fun in a limited sort of way. After id took back control, I thought it actually became very good, it just had a lack of players by that point. It had features I didn't like initially. They fixed most of that though. If I could get a few friends together, I'd play Doom MP today. :D

I think we're on the same page.

I don't think I have some amazing superpower of prediction either. I just read the signs well within my own context I guess, and can determine if I'm going to like something more often than not. If I have serious doubts, and that happens too, I'll hold off until I get plenty of information, things get fixed, etc.
