You don't get horrendous mass murders by seemingly normal people? I call BS. Yes, you do not have shootings on the same level, but you are also unarmed sheep who will do what your unelected Government in Brussels tells you to do. You have no ability to defend yourselves from either tyrannical governments or drugged up criminals.

Fact is the only way to disarm America is for the POTUS to declare Martial Law, and have government foot soldiers go on door-to-door searches of every private home to confiscate the 300+ million guns that already exist. Not going to happen, because here in America we value liberty and personal property rights.

A country is only as good as the people who live in it, and both the US and Europe have to face that fact. We are not going to LEGISLATE our way out of the problems we face.

The way you speak makes me think you've never been out of the US. Interested; Is that assumption correct?

Just a minor detail to this - no one has to do house to house searches, and there were plenty of guns of Europe. It was the main area World War 1 and 2 took place after all.
What have taken place in most European countries was the "carrots and sticks" method. When certain types of weapons were outlawed, you had two choices. You could either give it to state to destroy/modify in an amnesty period (carrot part). Or you could keep it, but if you were found out later to own such outlawed weapon, you could face jail time. Of course if you handed in a weapon in the amnesty period and it was found out that a crime was committed with it, you had hard time with police.

Even now, in 2010's, we often have weapon amnesty, where you can bring in unregistered weapons and either get them registered (if lawful by current laws), dismantled or modified to be unusable (so they look like a normal weapon, but you can't fire from it).

In Australia, when they outlawed semi-auto weapons, they offered a buyback scheme to remove the banned weapons from circulation.

Who is talking about disarming?

Where did I mention gun control?

The only incident I can remember in my country of a school shooting was a guy with a crossbow. And you have a school incident not because teenagers have access to guns (guns related to hunting are common in many countries of Europe. And yes, a hunting shotgun is obviously not as useful in a killing spree compared to a semi-auto gun because you will be realoding much more, but it is better than nothing), but because somebody's mind is so fucked up in there that he decides that his best option in life is go to harm a bunch of people then off himself. So, what differs between our teenagers compared to yours is that ours have less fucked up minds. Which is why I mentioned mental health problems. Being bad has nothing to do with any of it. Attacking a school then suiciding isn't an act of malice. It simply isn't.

And yes, you should legislate out of the problem you face. Or what do you propose? To do nothing? To arm the teachers? To put military guards in every school? To solve a problem you need to:

a) Understand it's root cause
b) Try to attack said root cause

Are any of these being addressed? Why so many teenagers are shooting their schools? It is very sad that a kid takes that route for whatever reason. Very, very sad. Yes, the root cause is that teenagers are going nuts for some reason. Putting more or less guns won't change that fact. Putting more or less security into a school won't change that fact.

PS: and no, we aren't "sheep". And funny that you mention it... even though we can't defend ourselves from tyrannical governments nor drugged up criminals... we have less problems with those too. To each his own, I guess. Lastly, you seem to think that liberty and personal property don't exist here in Europe. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm OK, I guess?

Saw a Madden tournament video from 2017 that had the supposed shooter competing. Dude looked like a slightly higher functioning Adam Lanza...

It is sad that this person got that upset over losing in the tournament.

Yeah, you think all of this is funny, but I do not.

Now we are perhaps sort-of off-topic, but having armed, uniformed Neo Nazis marching in public chanting hate speech is not something that I see as an expression of free speech. If that is all that your vaunted First Amendment amounts to, you can keep it.

In Europe we want freedom from what I show below, and if that means that I can not have machine guns, land mines, hand grandees, tanks and nukes, so be it.

News flash, criminals & crazy people don't care about laws. So while you're all uppity on "The greater good" criminals are planning your death & guess what, they have weapons.

I find it really fascinating that people just say, "take away the weapons, and it will all just go away". It will not, it hasn't for as long as humans have been alive.

So, on topic. I wonder how this person got a gun into this event? Do they not search bags or have any type of security? I work in the security field & at big events, you have layers of Security, where if one fails, others are there to prevent things like this from happening.

Thank you for agreeing with me. Does that mean that you even agree to restrict the availability of weapons, or you just dandy with "criminals & crazy people" having easy access to weapons?

Criminals are going to have access to weapons either way. The question is, are you going to be able to defend yourself? There are one hundred times more illegal guns on the streets than there are legal ones. And yes, I do agree with restricting weapon availability through background checks & extended waiting periods / training.

In regards to the first part of your post my question is always how does a government take away those weapons, especially with how many guns there are in this country? That's the scary part to me. I can't imagine how this country would do anything other than collapse in on itself by attempting to take guns away.

And *cough* back on topic. Most events likely don't have any type of budget or management to accommodate security. This took place at a mall, right? I'm guessing in some sort of gaming store/arcade. I'd honestly be surprised if anyone thought of some sort of security set up

According to the article he left the event then came back with it.

Knurrus Please stop talking about politics. It seems that you don't mind being banned, but the rest of us would like to talk about what happened. You're going to get the thread closed so nobody can discuss what happened. If I were you, I would consider remove all political statements from the thread.

Thanks!

time for more guns! more guns is totally the answer here

Agreed. People would be a lot less inclined to pull a gun in public if they knew Mrs. Johnson was packing. Although the mentally ill wouldn't care either way. And that I think is the whole issue here. Mental health.

My bad. I saw the "no off topic" but didn't see the small writing just below the sign...

---

And I don't think this person did this because he simply was upset. I get upset sometimes when playing computer games, throw a tantrum or seven, threaten my mice to aim properly next time or get smashed into pieces... and that's it.

No, you need to have mental health problems in order to consider:

a) killing others
b) ending your life

Or if he wants to keep it up there is a soap box thread on the shooting that is open game.

Crazy is becoming more and more common in the USA, judging by the amount of shootings the country suffers. The norm is not the guns being available, but people being unstable to the point of killing people and ending themselves. That is worrisome.
Fact is that we don't get horrendous mass murders by seemingly normal people. We do have (unfortunately) terrorist attacks, but school shootings? We barely have any.

So now we are an international psychiatrist able to analyse and diagnose entire countries by the actions of a few? You need to study American history to even begin to understand. This holier that thou attitude "that doesn't happen here" disgusts me. Obeying forum rules, I will not go further with examples - but there are many from all over the world of the same damn thing.

I am through addressing your trolling attack on American culture values and how yours is so much better and has it all figured out. Must be nice to have it so perfect wherever the FK u r.

We can follow this discussion in the Soap Box thread if you wish, I won't answer you here. I didn't read the "politics will get you banned" before, which is why I wrote what I wrote, but no more.

Kyle, please take down all videos showing the identity of anyone involved in this horrific incident. To include the aggressor. It’s not right showing his past in a message forum when he was deceased as of today, no matter what and who believes.

He’s a victim in all of this as well if he was mentally ill.

By the way I am a disabled veteran with ptsd and as much as I hate what happened today and the world we live in, this is not the place to show this shit at... it’s called a legal system and court room. And law enforcement needs to deal with this. Not people in a public forum....

You want horrendous... 75 people shot per weekend in South Chicago. Doesn't make the news though. Doesn't fit the narrative. Comparing the US to Europe is apples to oranges by the way. We sport more surface area than most of Europe combined and have population numbers that far surpass any European country on it's own. Statistically you can't compare the US to any single European country.

Let me just say this - it is part of our culture. Impulsive, independent, and freedom to bear arms. All of it. together, the good, the bad and the ugly. Pun intended, watch the movie. It will help you understand, To understand our history, is to understand us. Just as it is with you.

I wouldn't call him a victim per se. Nor a criminal.

He was ill, of that I'm sure, but the victims are those who were wounded or killed for no reason at all.

I can't say I'm surprised by this type of thing. I'm surprised it took so long. Twitch and big time tourneys have been around a long time now. Gaming is a great place for people who don't do as well socially to thrive. The gaming culture is a haven for many poor souls who probably are mentally ill. Gaming doesn't cause violence or mental health problems, but it is the perfect escape for those that already have issues. I've played with some weird motherfuckers online that's for sure. I'm a pretty weird guy and I'm not even in the same universe as some of these people.

Take those weird people who are used to being at home and then throw them into these live tourneys where they never belonged in the first place and shit will go bad eventually

Edit: Remove horrific picture of Nazi mass murder in WWII
Edit: I tried to remove it and failed....
You obviously do not understand written English.
First post said no politics, Noob.
Sounds to me like you want a vacation.

Huh. I'm an America who's lived in Europe (both as a civilian and otherwise) on and off for 20 years. Most Europeans have just as many, if not more, protected freedoms and rights as Americans.

They also have isolated violence and terrorist attacks like the US, the main difference being firearms are in the hands of the law only and are extremely regimented.

There were more people murdered in Illinois last year than there were in all of England. It's not splitting atoms to figure out why.

Physical security problems and solutions are universal.

You can get 99% going in any direction- arm everyone, confiscate everything, place limits, etc.

The challenge with events like these is that the whole problem has not been thought through- and that is the case with every such situation.

I actually agree with you.

This culture is what has made me always prefer America and Americans. More so than any other culture including my own.

Politics aside, meaning NOT politics! Something is seeping into your culture that I feel is cancerous. ie, it is killing your amazing Spirit.

I pray that you guys figure it out soon enough.

We can be assured that someones ass is going to be in the fire over this. I mean, not having security at a large event is just asking for trouble. And to me seems ridiculous. We don't live in that type of world anymore were we can just throw caution to the wind and expect everyone to play nice.

Was this an EA sponsored event?

Most Europeans have just as many, if not more, protected freedoms and rights as Americans.

Very hard to quantify 'as many, if not more' given the differences involved and how different people feel affected by them.

I will say that the US Constitution provides protection for more fundamental freedoms for its citizens from their government.

...not having security at a large event is just asking for trouble. And to me seems ridiculous. We don't live in that type of world anymore were we can just throw caution to the wind and expect everyone to play nice.

The basic issue is: do you provide protection or not? If you don't, are you preventing people from providing their own protection (private property etc.).

A large part of this is the idea of banning weapons by decree, but then not enforcing said ban while also not providing protection commensurate with the activity.

This applies to an elementary school as much as it does to a large convention with a tournament where tempers are sure to run hot.

That's why you compare the United States vs the European Union in these things, to average things out. We have very troubled countries and very safe ones. Also, when doing that the EU has double to population, not sure about surface area though. Otherwise you're just comparing American States vs European Countries, which can be done to fit any narrative really.
